   Vin Rouge provides a friendly atmosphere with excellent food and pleasant surroundings. The menu is French and offerings are consistently delicious. The wine list is extensive but loaded with French wines as one might expect. But unless you know your French wines, finding what you want can be challenging. Service is professional and pleasant but individual wait staff can become a bit overwhelmed by large parties. We have gone to Vin Rouge for years and count on it when we are looking for a classy but relaxed dining experience with great food and reasonable pricing.

   We were at a stopover in Durham and booked the Vin Rouge for an early 5:30 dinner. Parking was a little hard, probably because of a wedding being held there. Other than the air being a little cool, the atmosphere was great. We had the mussels as an app and they were some of the best we’ve ever had with a very aromatic creamy sauce! Enjoyed a very good French martini with them. The bread and olive tapenade was delicious as well. We both ordered the trout almandine and it was delicious! Service was great as well!

   Step out of the US and into France. From the moment we pulled up, we were charmed. The atmosphere directly in the front door felt like a family was there to graciously serve you. The menu inspire us to choose too many plates and our waiter was kind enough to split servings for us to share rather than over order. The bread came with Kalamata olive spread. The cheese tray was a lovely blend. The onion soup was perfectly balanced. The beet salad was flavorful. Our main dishes were delightfully seasoned and perfectly cooked, although we couldn’t complete them. As we were celebrating an anniversary, they gifted us with dark chocolate mousse garnished with sea salt and walnuts. We will be back. It was a perfect experience.
