Everything was wonderful, from the food to the atmosphere to the service. The staff did a wonderful job of making my mother feel special on her 80th birthday!
Our second visit. Obnviously we like the place. I had escargo; it was some of the best i've had. Also had Boudin Blanche. I enjoyed it, but it was not my favorite. Candidly, I think that it was probably an authentic French dish; I am more accustomed to a Cajun variety. So I do not think my critique is valid. One of our friends had the poisson de jour (Flounder). It was huge and looked delicious. The ladies had Caramelized onion and goat cheese tart. They loved it. We will return.
Very intimate setting with good food and great service
Outstanding and authentic French cuisine plus the perfect wine pairing and great service even though crowded.
It was crowded on a Tuesday night but the service was good. You'll definitely want to make a reservation. The décor is quaint and charming. The server was attentive. the wine selection is fabulous. Don't miss dessert even if you must take it to go and enjoy later.
This was our return visit and was just as enjoyable as the first. The crepes were delicious and the portion size just right. Although busy, we could still have a comfortable conversation without having to shout. Looking forward to our next visit.
Salad greens were old and moldy. Server was crabby and pushing extra items in a grumpy way.
I like this restaurant a lot, but the service was super slow, and my fish was okay but not that flavorful. I would still come back but would hope for a better experience.
Amazing food with an ambience that is cozy and romantic. Servers are very knowledgeable and wine list is outstanding.
Vin Rouge never fails to exceed our expectations! We had a great dinner and our server(Sherry) was a pro. Best parts were the baked clams and chocolate mousse...and everything in between!
Absolutely awesome ambiance with good food to boot!
Wonderful food and wine. Our server was waiting on tables both inside and outside so it seemed less attentive on this visit than others previously. The food and ambiance are so great though we'll be back!!
Great bread. Nice apps. Good pâté. Good wine selections. Hanger steak decent but slightly tough. Pomme frites decent. Deserts nice. Waiter a bit of a disappearing act but very helpful and pleasant. You know, the disappearing between apps and entree and before desert.
Loved it! Delicious food, excellent service, and not so loud that we had to shout. Good sommelier advice too!
We had a very good dinner and a very good time. The little neck clams in a garlicky brith and wonderful crusty bread to dip were outstanding. My bouillabaisse was not as good.
It was reasonably crowded for a Sunday evening so reservations are advised. Very close to Duke campus.
Really nice. As close to French bistro as you will come. Expect $100 for two.
The food was delicious. The escargot was to die for and so were the clams. My fiancee and I went for our anniversary and it was an excellent place with equally excellent food. Small and romantic. Only complaint is that there should be more wines by the glass.
Great food and wine, great choices. Can get loud.
Always consistent and good. Even keep a record in reservation computer which table I like.
We had a truly perfect evening at Vin Rouge. The service was flawless and friendly, and the food was excellent. It has a warm, friendly atmosphere. We’ll be back any time we’re in Durham!
Arrived early and wascaeated right away. Wine, food and service was excellent. Was a little warm in the main dining room but was an excellent restaurant with a hip vibe.
very disappointing. been a while since we've been there and things appear to have gone wy down hill.
Excellent experience overall. I was greeted immediately by our server who remained attentive throughout and food was fantastic. From the healthy - mussels and swordfish, to the indulgent - mac and cheese and frites to accompany the mussels. Looking forward to returning.
The decor is charming, the food is fantastic and the service was good. The set menu was fantastic as were the appetizers and wine. There were some new servers that seemed to be learning and were somewhat distracting. The tables are very small as are the rickety chairs. There wasn't enough room for our food and drinks on the tabletop and the tables are so close that we had to stand up to allow arriving guests to get to their chairs. As more guests arrived, the noise level rose so much that my partner and I couldn't hear each other. The dining experience could be greatly improved with some simple changes to the environment,
Best visit thus far. Michelle was great, timing of the service was on point. My steak wasn’t over cooked this time
Roy was amazing...he made our experience at Vin Rouge and when we return we will definitely inquire to have him again. Food was phenomenal as well. We will be back!
Appetizers were excellent - salads and shrimp Provençale. Entrees were very good - steak frites and salmon. Excellent lemon tart for dessert. Great service and a great atmosphere on a rainy Sunday night.
I have always loved Vin Rouge and enjoyed my brunch there last weekend. However, my main comment is that there are too many tables scrunched too close together. I could not relax because I was sandwiched between another customer at another table on one side, and on the other side had waiters rushing by me within inches of me. I understand the desire to accommodate as many tables as possible, but there is a point at which the dining experience begins to suffer.
We have always enjoyed our meals here before and are well aware of the close quarters and noise level. This time, though, as it was a special birthday dinner I must admit it bothered us. We heard the entire conversation from the table next to us too loud and too clear. Although a lovely table in the far room next to the window was open the entire time we were there, we were not seated there. And, although it was a special occasion no extra little something to mark the occasion. The food, though, was excellent - as always. So, a good experience but not a fabulous place for an intimate dinner.
My trout was a little salty but great experience nonetheless. Good service and friendly professional waitresses.
Great food and service, a little loud but definitely worth it
The quality of the food and the service was excellent. The noise level was too high....could hardly talk across the small table. The tables are entirely too close together for comfort.
Incredible. Everything we ordered was fantastic. The staff was on point. Tremendous. We'll be back many times.
Had a lovely birthday brunch with friends at Vin Rouge. Always enjoy the quaint atmosphere and delicious food. Ordered the Eggs Oscar which is poached eggs over English muffins covered in an amazing crab hollandaise sauce and asparagus. One of my favorite places to dine!
We loved this restaurant. Wonderful ambience and good food at reasonable prices. Will definitely return
Wonderful from start to finish. We went for an intimate birthday dinner and we were not disappointed. Ordered some of the “classic” dishes and some from the evening specials. Next special event we will be going back!
7:15 reservation and nice Hostess said our table was done just chatting so directed us to the bar. Took way to long to get our drinks, at one point the bartender offered to get us bread but he never delivered. Finally got moved to our table at 7:45 and sat there for another 20 minutes before the waitress first visited our table. Overall very slow service the night we were there but the food was delicious!
Wine list needs work. Woefully over-priced French wines, when there is are so many French alternatives
Dinner with daught
