This restaurant has consistently been a great neighborhood gem. We love it, the service is excellent as well as a wide variety of food options.
Great Breakfast! One of the few and the best on 5th Avenue. Just recently became aware Breakfast was available. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will be back again.
I always enjoy Vergina! I wish they would have had their outside lights on! We missed the early special! I think it should last till six like most restaurants!
Is It Dishonesty or Incompetence?
The first visit, in December 2017, asked for the $20.00 bottle of wine advertised on the online menu.The waiter knew nothing about it, checked with the manager who went online to verify, (as if I would make that up), then sent it to our table.
The second visit, in January 2018, when presented with our bill, I was charged $44.00 for the wine I ordered, which was clearly listed for $32.00 on the online menu.
Again, the manager went online to verify my claim.
When presented with the corrected bill we paid and left.
It was only when I got home, and totaled up my bill, did I discover I had been charged an additional $8.00 for a vegetable we did not order, and I have the bill to prove it.
Clearly, there are aspects of both our visits to Vergina that we can commend and condemn. But they would be only our opinions, subject to confirmation or rebuttal.
Overcharging and misrepresenting items on your bill are facts, that leaves little open to interpretation, save, dishonesty or deceit.
If this is the perceived intent, and, as I'm told, the New Management is about to change the restaurants' name, might I suggest, "Ali Baba's &", (just kidding?).
To end it all:
This was a "Birthday" visit with great service by "Marcello", whom I'm certain,(by now), is known by every tourist and resident of Naples. Perhaps, a bronze statue of him holding a tray in the entryway would add to the recognition of his meritorious service which, he so richly deserves.
Expect a mixed bag of experiences if you dine here "in season", from awesome to awful.
Food was very good. 2 of us had the steak special. Personally I would prefer a thicker cut. It was tender and tasty. One person had lasagna and 4th had the 4 cheese pear pasta. Both said their food was excellent. Deserts, we had crewmen brûlée (average) and tiramisu) excellent. Yes, we would/will return.
Plenty of other places to choose from. I won’t be back.
Service was bad, pasta dish was not even warm.
We were ignored several times by the very tall hostess, it seems like she did not want to be there.
Great singer as we had dinner on the patio. Enjoyed it very much. Very romantic.
Not as good as it used to be. Our server said it was in the process of an ownership and name change. Menu was not as varied and good as before. Too few side dishes all served with the same main course (risotto and broccoli rabe). Our server was inexperienced and unable to answer some questions about the menu, and brought out a chicken dish when I ordered veal. Probably won't go back after this place had been a favorite for more than a decade.
The food was great, the service was good.
