Great food and service that night. Thanks for hosting our visitors!
Diver scallops and the bucatini were to die for. A couple of glasses of The Big Easy and life is good. Stacy is a super server.
The food was excellent and the servers were very attentive. We sat in the bar and the music was great.
We love the atmosphere , the service is good , all of us had different dinners and they were all excellent , my husband loves the French onion soup !! we used the open table seating and everything worked out great :)
The Ahi Tuna appetizer was overcooked, tasted strange, and the presentation was sloppy. Those who ordered cod had uneven portion sizes and the fish was dried out and the breading overdone. The chicken dishes were all dried out. There was live music, which was too loud to have a conversation with others at the table. We usually enjoy Vera Mae’s, but this experience was miserable.
Vera Mae's is where we ALWAYS take out of town guests for fine dining in Muncie. The food is consistent, high quality and the service is bar none - the BEST in the area.
Owners are present and always stop by the table to thank us for dining and meet our guests.
Our favorite thing to do is have a guest order the French Onion Soup and be so surprised when they get SCISSORS to cut with:)
Our favorite bartender in the area is also on staff and practically has our drink waiting for us when we arrive.
We are very fortunate to have this gem of a restaurant in our town.
Everything was excellent but the food ordering process was rather slow. We were all really hungry and the waiter was taking his good old sweet time.
Great place to celebrate! Food, service, and atmosphere were awesome!
The sea bass was perfect, a golden brown crust with incredibly juicy and tender meat inside. The pork chop was equally lovely, bright cider tones with tender, juicy (not over cooked) meat. The evening was enlivened by a nearby table for whom nothing was good. They split a salad, chicken, and a creme brulee. The gentleman finished everything set before him while the woman complained at every course, then demanded their check be comped. If they've written a review anywhere else, it's not accurate.
We always enjoy our visits to Vera Mae's. Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, great food, really good wine! It will remain our go-to "fancy" place in Muncie. :)
Our top choice for gourmet dining in the Muncie area.
All the courses were very tasty! Staff was friendly and prompt on courses and drink orders. Only complaint was checking in. Stood at the door for at least five minutes, finally had to tell an employee we had a reservation.
I realize it was a limited menu for Valentine’s Day but it would’ve nice to have an option for those that don’t like sweet potatoes
Always the best place to eat and meet!! Kent and Steve are the best!!
Great service. Friendly staff. Table was ready. Water glass was always full. Food was a ten.
Fantastic as usual,
Celebrated our wedding anniversary with french onion soup, spinach and feta wontons. Delicious
Our go-to places for special occasions. The setting is cozy and romantic, but still fun and not fussy.
The service team is absolutely first-class: friendly, attentive, not never overly so.
The menu is not overly large but features a great mix of simple, comfort-oriented dishes as well as artfully composed high-end entrees. The wine list is extensive.
It would be easy to make a meal of drinks, small plates, and dessert, but a full four-course meal is quite the experience!
Came to Muncie for relaxing weekend. Had checked trip advisor prior to arrival . So glad we did it was a wonderful experience.
Extremely helpful staff - great suggestions from appetizers to dessert.
Try Cajun nacho’s very tasty.
The French Onion soup is a must - absolutely the best I’ve ever had.
Raspberry chicken was fantastic the Brussels sprouts were awesome.
Too full to eat dessert but they looked fabulous.
You won’t go wrong having dinner here.
Arrived in time. My profile states my gluten sensitivity. Many of the side dishes that accompanied the protein selection contained gluten an d the waiter knew that. . I asked if I could substitute to mashed potatoes. I was told NO, they would not have enough for the other customers. Really? They are freaking potatoes. Buy an extra bag, boll them, mash with butter and milk. What’s the problem?? So I paid $40 for 5 scallops and a slice of butternut squash. Terribly disappointed. Do not think I shall be returning.
Vera Mae's is my absolute favorite restaurant in Muncie. The food, staff, and atmosphere are all incredible. Every time I dine here I wonder why I don't eat there every weekend!
Outstanding food and service. Also, the music was great!
Would highly recommend.
There was a ladies group down from where we were sitting. They were very loud, but were having a good time. We just weren't used to this. The times we have been there it has been very quiet which we love.
Our favorite restaurant in Muncie. Always a good time with good food and service.
Vera Mae’s is such a wonderful restaurant! The owners, Kent and Steve, always make you feel like a family member. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the restaurant was decorated beautifully! We never felt rushed, and we enjoyed our get together with friends for Christmas. We definitely recommend this restaurant!
Great food, great staff, wonderful experience!
Our favorite restaurant. 1st time with the new menu. Sea bass was great and the bucatini pepper sauce was superb. Lisa was great.
Reviews need to be in perspective. If I were from Italy I would not criticize a small town bistro for not being spot on with the Italian preparation. For Muncie Indiana, we are blessed to have such a fine establishment. The dining experience for me is always tops! I take my team here every Christmas. I use them for catering and they do a great job.
We LOVE this gem of a restaurant in downtown MUNCIE.
Owners Kent & Steve personally see to every detail and treat customers like family.
Food from Chef is outstanding.
Be glad you did.
Delightful surprise in Muncie, Indiana. The restaurant located in an old building downtown has done a great job at creating ambiance and atmosphere. Enjoyed the menu selections as well as the professional wait staff. And, to top it off, the owner who serves as host and guest relations was appropriately attentive not only to our table but to others int he restaurant. You have to try this restaurant. It was our first time, it won't be our last!
Service was poor. This was a college graduation weekend and they seemed understaffed. My food was overcooked. DIL’s sea bass was undercooked. Cocktails were slow and below average. A couple of meals were not plated as described in the menu. Decor is Victorian bordello. Would not revisit—and we normally give every restaurant a second chance.
Tried the new dinner menu and loved the items we ordered. The Chilean sea bass was beautifully prepared and the cassoulet was terrific. The cranberry and pecan entree was delicious especially because of the dressing. We will be back soon.
I grew up in Muncie and come back at least once a year to visit. Vera Mae's is always at the top of my restaurant list. World class food and cocktails priced well, kind staff, and the owners always make you feel like they have been waiting all day to see you. This is the place to go in Muncie for fine dining at its best!
Gilbert and I were extremely pleased with our experience at Vera Mae's on Tuesday. The food was delicious, our server was attentive, the soup was hot and the cost was reasonable. We look forward to a return visit.
Delicious food and drinks
Felt like we were at “Cheers”, where everybody knows your name. Relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend!
I had a Filet of Beef Dinner, with smashed small potato's, and asparagus. The meal was accompanied by a small house salad. Our server, was excellent, and was there when we needed her, but did not "hover." The restaurant had a welcome feel to it, and was nicely decorated...I liked it. My steak was "Rare" as requested, and very tasty. The only suggestion I could make, would be for the restaurant to add a baked potato to the menu, which is not available now. I enjoyed my visit.
Made a reservation here at 5:30 on a Saturday, well in advance, as we were in town for a concert. We arrived and were offered the worst table available even though there were several for a party of our size, 2 people. The greeter, seater seemed quite miffed that we would request a different table.
We were greeted by our server about 10 minutes later and received 1/2 our beverage order 10 mins later. The other 1/2 trailed by another 5 minutes. We received our soup an salad starter 30 minutes after our reservation time.
At this point it was obvious the servers were frantic and a man with a ponytail arrived to assist the team. All this was forgivable until...our main courses arrived 45 minutes later, $30+ meals that were cold, dry and tasteless. We’d traveled all day and were starving and so ate our meals...weird gremolata that somehow turned into neon green sauce with a vinegary flavor and “smashed” potatoes that never made it to a smashed state. No one really noticed, or asked, how the food tasted.
Very disappointing! It seems like the restaurant was not prepared for a busy Saturday night...but really, it’s all in how you handle it. No real apologies or gestures apart from a comp glass of wine which was delivered just prior to receiving our check...nearly 2 hours after we were seated!
Food was outstanding!!! Special dishes included an Italian truffle risotto that was delicious!
Celebrating nephews scholarship
Outstanding dining experience! Great ambiance! Food was excellent and service was outstanding! From the crab & artichoke dip appetizer to the entrees to the bread pudding, the food was served hot & with care! I would definitely dine there again!
