Vera Mae's Bistro
My husband and I enjoyed our meal and drinks! The food was fabulous and the beer was perfectly cold! We will be returning soon!
a repeat visit and we were not disappointed. Great customer service and great food.
Outstanding! Our favorite spot for a great evening of food & easy music.
Four of us decided to meet at Vera Mae's As usual, we had a very good time. Everyone ordered a seafood dish and was very satisfied. The scallops were truly manna from the gods and perfectly prepared. The asparagus was somewhat tough previously so the request was made to only steam it. However, it appeared to be grilled first and then steamed. There still was considerable toughness. There was happiness at the end of the meal with the Ghyslain desserts. What a nice option to offer.
I discovered Vere Mae’s about three years ago and have been back several times. The food is always wonderful! Anyone looking to dine in a beautiful atmosphere should definitely try this restaurant. I drive from Indianapolis and it is definitely worth it!!
Disappointed in food. Four of the six meals were over cooked.
Derrick, our waiter, was terrific.
One special of the evening was scallops. The other was swordfish. We were both very happy since one of us ordered the scallops which were superb, and the other ordered the swordfish for which compliments were sent to the chef. The asparagus was undercooked and thus not very tasty. I do not know why restaurants do this. Perhaps it is easy to just grill the asparagus, but it is not very appetizing. We ended the meal with very enjoyable Ghyslain desserts. The cocktails here are always so well made.
My wife had the steak and I had the salmon. The meal was wonderful; however, despite my wife requesting her steak well done, it came to her medium. In fairness to Vera Mae's, she did not request that it be cooked longer, so they did not have an opportunity to rectify the situation. We sat in the bar area next to a staircase. My view was of an odd picture of a lady's head being held on a platter by another woman. I'm all for modern art, but that was a bit off-putting while eating. In all though, the food was fantastic, including my wife's steak, and we will definitely be back.
Best restaurant in Muncie. Going to Vera Mae's is always a treat, it feels like a corner of Paris and the food is SPECTACULAR. Crave it every day!
Vera Mae's is our very favorite dining location in Muncie, Indiana. The staff is attentive, professional and fun!! We love to eat there as a matter of routine and it is our favorite place to celebrate "special" occasions. I would recommend Vera's to everyone!!! It is comfortable, casual, inviting and full of surprises. Their menu offers an exciting gourmet variety laced with classic items that folks seek when they return!! Kent and Steve have created a world class restaurant in the heart of our community!!!
Everything was wonderful as always. Shrimp and Grits and the salmon were the entrees. Had a re-enactment of “death by bongo” because of 1st Thursday. Not to worry for the future however. Rumor has it that the CIA has hired the bongo musicians to replace water boarding as the preferred torture protocol. Love the place.
Outstanding as always. Kent, Steve and the crew always make everyone feel welcome and the cuisine and service is outstanding
Had the special, halibut. It was wonderful. Marco was fabulous as usual.
Fantastic food, fantastic service. Unique atmosphere, really enjoyable experience. Worth the drive.
Excellent option for a fun experience. The atmosphere was charming, the architecture was authentic and the food was First Class! This celebration meal with our son was very enjoyable and a treat. I will visit again!
If you haven’t been to Vere Mae’s then you are missing out on great atmosphere, food, desert and “real” cocktails. Not a better venue in Indiana. Never disappoints. 5 Stars.
Wonderful food, awesome service, and the best mixed drinks! Would definitely recommend to a friend.
We were in town for an event and ended up eating here twice! The owners and staff are lovely and take pride in what they do. The food was very good. Bibb salad was amazing. Swordfish special and scallops were delicious. Baked Brie’s and shrimp cocktail so delish. Husband had NY strip and loved it. What a quaint, cute, quality place to dine in Muncie!
Great food and service. Highly recommended!
We enjoyed our evening very much, appreciating that even a place that’s been around for more than 15 years has added several new menu choices added to their many ‘old standards’. I admit that I’ve not ever tried some of those, all due to my getting enticed each time that we’re there by either a couple of my personal favorites of their standards or one of that night’s specials. While we were there we overheard two couples who’d obviously started their dining experience long before we had ours, since they were leaving not that long after we’d been seated. In addition to them happily and loudly telling one of the co-owners how VERY much they’d enjoyed ‘everything’ they also announced that it was their wedding anniversary and that, as was their custom, they’d had VM’s cater their wedding some years ago and always came back there on their anniversary, to commemorate and celebrate! I’ve learned that the ambiance, the decor, the food, the bar offerings, ALL of those things that’s then combined with the EXTRAORDINARY (in its true sense; it really IS ‘EXTRA-ordinary’) friendliness, warmth, and seemingly real happiness to welcome you into ‘their home’ by the co-owner couple-in-life, Kent and Steve, all combine to make your experience there, whether it’s ‘just’ for a quick business lunch or a profoundly personal dinner celebration, a memorable and lovely time!
We dined at Vera Mae's on a Monday night to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. The restaurant catered our wedding reception and did a fabulous job. As always, the server was very nice and either answered our questions directly or was able to find the information we requested.
We love Vera Mae's! This visit was extremely enjoyable. Had amazing food...from Shrimp Cocktail, Salmon, House made Blue cheese to house made Pecan pie, Truly can say each were top of my list as to Best I Have Ever Had! Everything about this place to Fun...highly recommend to everyone who enjoys good drinks and great food!
A pleasant time was had catching up on news about our lives. The drinks were great as usual. The entrees were impressively presented and tasted very good. One small quibble: the broccoli should not be al dente. It was not steamed long enough so it was not eaten. Wonderful Ghyslain desserts with French Press Coffee constituted a very nice end to the evening.
Great night out and always a delicious meal and fabulous experience!
We dined tonight at Vera Maes for the Cajun menu. We both had the crawfish and Tasso gumbo which was absolutely delicious. I had oyster, artichoke soup and my husband had a salad. Our server was Marcos and he did an excellent job. Great menu and we will be coming back again soon for another Cajun meal.
It was wonderful! Service was great and the food was delicious
It was a special place to get together with visiting relatives for a birthday celebration. The food was tasty and choices were out of the ordinary. Noise level was a little too much for the age group so we were easily moved to a table in a location a little better suited. Servers attention was great.
Our birthdays are both in May. 27th and 28th
Definitely the best restaurant in Muncie and probably the best in East Central Indiana. Kent and Steve (the owners) make every individual or group feel like they are special.
Quality of the meal was excellent (as always). Service was outstanding. Charming atmosphere (great artwork adorns the walls). A bit pricey, but the quality makes up for that.
We had an excellent Mother's Day meal at Vera Maes. Two of us had the pasta with shrimp and the other diner had pan seared scallops. All of our meals were excellent and the service was impeccable. We dine here often for special occasions as well as for just a evening in town. I highly recommend Vera Maes.
Amazing as usual! We decided to take our mother's for a pre-mother's day dinner. Service (Marko) was amazing. Although I have been to Vera Mae's MANY times, he suggested some excellent options. Love the ambiance and the energy with Vera Mae's, the owners are amazing, they always make my experience special! The food is delicious and the Lemon Drop Basil infused martini's were AMAZING!!!
Poor Vera Mae's the world of two different restaurants. Yes this was for Ball State graduation evening. I never imagined that the restaurant would be totally in the weeds and do a reprehensible job on their food and service. A month before, we spent a lovely evening for a lte night dinner, and figured this would be a great place for 6 people at 6PM on graduation day. Oh how wrong we were.
Our waiter - probably the worst I've ever experienced. When the kitchen goes belly up and can't get food out, it is his job to keep the table happy. Drinks, small appetizers, fun stories, anything to keep us entertained. Instead, we got, "more water?" Actually at the end, comp a portion of the meal almost fixes the problem.
Drinks and appetizers took 20 minutes to arrive. And then the loooooong wait happened. It was an hour and a half for our food to arrive. The medium steak was well done (ruined piece of lovely beef) and the fish was bone dry. The diver scallops were good, except they were on a bed of blah plain white rice. On a normal night, the food is good - some of the best in Muncie. On graduation day, McDonald's is a better, tastier option.
When it was time to leave, the waiter tried to apologize, but it was hollow. No offer of a free dessert, drinks, wine, anything. Just brought the check. If I was that guy, 5% would have been the tip. I'm not, so he did get exactly to the penny 15%. And that was a total gift.
The only bright spot, one of the managers or owners stopped by and told nice stories and apologized off and on.
To put salt in the wound - we had a reservation made months before the evening - they put us at a table exactly on the path to the bathroom. Guess who got to sit on a nearly broken chair and got run into constantly by people going to the bathroom? Yeah the guy who paid the bill.
Don't ever use this restaurant for graduation day or evening.
We picked up our daughter from BSU after her first year and at the same time we met for the first time her boyfriend, so I wanted to make the event special.
The accommodations were as we requested and ambiance is always friendly elegant.
All our meals were absolutely fantastic, as always. High end preparation and impeccable service.
We try to go every occasion we have when in Muncie.
Definitely I recommend it.
This was our second time here and we enjoyed it just as much as the first time. We took my college age daughter and her boyfriend here after her freshman year at Ball State was over. The host greeted us warmly and sat us right away ( we had a reservation). My wife and I had cocktails. My vodka martini was quite dirty but I didn't ask for that way and that would be my only complaint about the evening. Two of us had the soup special for a starter (chick gumbo) and one had a salad. Both were delicious. Our entrees were excellent too. Two pasta dishes and two chick entrees. The service was attentive and our waitress was very pleasant. We did not have desert but we saw several go by and they looked yummy. If you are in Muncie Indiana and have a chance, visit this little gem right downtown. You won't be disappointed!
I asked for a quiet location for a meeting. We were given a very nice location with a great view of the patio. The food was excellent. Our meeting was very successful.
We enjoyed the meal very much. Also the decorations are very interesting and the feel of the place is a lot of fun. It is always a treat to be able to take business clients to this place to conduct interviews or have other conversations.
