Enjoyed the good. Expensive but worth it. Portions aren’t huge but the staff and presentation are must see
This was out first visit and we found the service, menu and atmosphere excellent. They have a good selection of wines, beers, cocktails and the menu is interesting. The vibe is there as well with music and RB Inn offers a beautiful setting.
This place was spectacular. Quiet, nice ambience, great food, and a very professional staff. Very satisfying. It’s a bit on the pricey side, but worth every penny.
This is so close to Del Mar and Encinitas but we'd never been there. A friend recommended it and so, at the last minute, we decided to give it a try. The wait staff was incredible....available when needed but not hovering...recommending best options both for cocktails and wine as well as for the dinner selections. Everything was delicious! We had the corn chowder, iberico pork, and the halibut; all were recommended. We enjoyed every last bite. We were so full we couldn't even think about dessert but those looked amazing as well. We'll definitely be back.
Pleasantly surprised with this place. I knew it would be pricey but I feel the value was there. It’s an elegant setting and the service was excellent. Food was great too.
Exceltional as always
Veladora was great. Good service, great wine list and food was excellent. Some of the dishes (halibut) were a bit salty for my tastes, but all well prepared and classy atmosphere.
We have enjoyed the beautiful setting at veladora for quite a few summers when on our annual visit to the area. The servers were excellent and the food was delicious, but we encountered some problems we hadn’t in the past. The young ladies staffing the check in were inexperienced and did not handle us very well. We booked our dinner way in advance and arrived an hour early to have a drink prior. The pony lounge had a 45 minute sit, so we were directed to an outdoor fire pit area. We had one guest in a wheelchair and went all the way around, but then there was no space for us. We asked if we could have a drink in the courtyard since there wasn’t anywhere else and they said we couldn’t be served there. After much discussion, they finally said we could sit in the seating next to the outdoor dining and a server from the restaurant helped us. This worked fine, but was stressful for me and I had to be very demanding to make it happen. The restaurant service is excellent....but the kitchen was unable to keep up. They apologized several times, but our entree was served an uncomfortable wait after our appetizers.
While we have enjoyed it in the past, it will not be at the top of our list next trip.
Loved the ambiance. Starting from drive to the restaurant , all was beautiful. A truly special experience. Great service, attentive staff, and the food was really good.
Wines and most entrees way over priced. I never look at $.but these guys are pushing it .....to ?do I really need to spend $56 for a pork dish? Lot of high quality places with 25 to 45 dollar entrees and much lower wine mark up.
Hard to tell if the food was best or the setting or the service? Most likely 3=10's
Went to Veladora for the fist time to celebrate my wife's birthday. Everything was fabulous from the service to the food. We started by sharing the berry salad which was excellent, fresh greens, berry's, and the accompanying sunflower butter made for a great combination. My wife had the seared scallops which were cooked just right to her liking. I had the duck which was outstanding. We finished with deserts and they brought out the ice cream loaded with fresh berries, very berry nice. The service from Richard was outstanding, much appreciated to make our night all the more special.
Can't believe we haven't been here before! It's a local gem. Amazing ingredients, GREAT sommelier, friendly service. This out classes the local restaurants in many ways. Can't wait to return.
very expensive, but the food was excellent. Nice evening!
We celebrated a special occasion, and we were not disappointed by the service, the menu, or the ambiance. The filet mignon melts in your mouth. So good! Will definitely be back!
Wedding Anniversary dinner.
An excellent meal. Every course was cooked and tasted to perfection. Service very attentive and overall a fantastic way to spend our last night in SD and at Rancho Valencia
Amazing flavor combinations.
Had a lovely dinner at Veladora. Very nice decor and service.
The staff, food and atmosphere were great! We definitely enjoyed our experience.
I was just at the restaurant in March and can’t believe I was at the same place. It was the worse experience I have ever had in all the years I have gone there. Our waiter Chad B was awful. We asked about the specials and he said it’s printed in the menu. The cutlery was not clean. The waiter spilled wine on the table. The waiter was rude. The duck was dry, the Carrot cake and chocolate cake was dry and stale. My husband’s napkin had charcoal all over it.. the busboy splashed water all over the table. After spending 800.00 for dinner. I was beyond embarrassed as this was a birthday dinner for a dear friend. I will never go there again.
We have been here many times and the food and service are always exceptional.
The manager Bujar has put together an amazing team obsessed with service, friendliness and quality and he always makes it a point to greet the diners and get their feedback on how to make things even better. It isn’t often you see someone taking this kind of care at a resort restaurant.
The Sommelier, Dan, has an encyclopedic knowledge of wines, can saber Champagne and is very helpful selecting just the right wine in whatever price range fits your budget. The wine selection runs the gamut from inexpensive but delicious table wine to California cult Cabernets and top French Burgundies.
All of the servers, from waiters to bussers and food runners, who we have experienced are friendly, professional and most importantly share Bujar’s vision of service.
While all the staff are wonderful, exceptional standouts who have gone above and beyond again and again for us include Dan M., Chad, Richard, Scott, Kaylie, Sarah, Canon, Victor and Julio.
Food quality is consistently great and we have enjoyed almost all the dishes we have tried. They serve the best filet in town and the truffle chicken, chino berry salad, green garlic risotto, scallops, salmon and halibut are our favorite dishes.
Some dishes that don’t stand out quite as much are the pasta (too small but priced accordingly), carrot cake, and Iberico pork (a bit fatty and we liked the former preparation much better than the current one).
We also wish they featured specials to let the chefs show their talents off more, as the variety is good for the occasional visitor but sometimes does not change quickly enough for regulars like us.
Whether for a date, business dinner, special occasion or just a great dining experience I can’t rate this place highly enough. I believe it’s the best restaurant in San Diego.
INCREDIBLE restaurant! We've dined here many times and it is always top notch but this particular night it was over the top! I had the beef tartare for an appetizer and it just melted in my mouth. I then had the scallops and was in heaven. I'm not a huge fan of scallops because so often they are poorly prepared in restaurants but these scallops were like nothing I've ever had before. PERFECTION!!!!!!! My husband had the lobster appetizer and the halibut entree and he loved it. In addition to the food our waiter Chip was amazing. We've had the privilege of being seated at his table before and I think I can say he is one of the top waiters around. He's attentive but not hovering, knowledgeable and very pleasant. Between the food, Chip and the decor/atmosphere Veladora Is OUTSTANDING!
Okay, it is pricey, however, it is what you would expect to pay at any high end restaurant. What separates this restaurant from other high end restaurants is the quality of the ingredients, the care and imagination with which these ingredients are used and the textures and tastes resulting from that care and imagination. Individual attention is clearly given to each item on each plate. The service should also be acknowledged. It is personal and informative without being overly friendly. Finally, it does not hurt that the restaurant is located in a fabulous setting.
It was a dreary drizzly day and they were setting up our table outside when we arrived.
I requested to be seated inside. Apparently the table they had planned to use for our
party of 8 was still occupied by the same group that had an 8:30 a.m. reservation, four
hours later. They were very apologetic and finally we were seated at a temporary
table while waiting for a table to accommodate our group. I know they were trying to
be accommodating to both groups, but when one takes advantage I feel something might
have been done.
Veladora is one of our go to places when we have visitors in town - food is great, quiet enough to have a conversation and typically great service. This time in the middle of the meal the fire alarms went off and didn't turn off for 20 mins. I realize sometimes things happen but it ruined our whole evening - we had family in from Europe and it was my wife's birthday, apparently the restaurant thought 20% discount was enough to save an evening that cost of thousands of dollars. They should have comp the whole evening.
Amazing experience! The quality of the service and food was out of this world. Thank you for such a wonderful evening and dining experience. I highly recommend the restaurant. It is one of the best restaurant/resorts in San Diego.
Amazing food and excellent drinks! Great service and value. Complimentary valet was a big bonus.
Great food, extremely good service, great ambiance. Very upmarket though so relatively pricey (we spent $200 on a meal + a couple of drinks for two, including tax and tip), but worth it if you’re looking for a “fancy” date night or special occasion location.
Excellent service... Steve will take great care of you!
Very nice. We will be back.
Truly amazing food. The pea soup, Oh My! Great service.
Food was OK...Pony Room, lots of staff, none being attentive. It appears they might think they are better then they are.
A fine experience
Great good with a great vibe! Food was delicious and perfect for my husband's birthday. Food is very fresh, and the desert is so good! Would definitely recommend for a nice dinner out, or special occasion dinner. Had amazing seafood, and I had yummy vegetarian pasta, they even brought out a happy birthday chocolate for my husband.
We met dear friends and we all had a wonderful meal and the waiter provided great persnable service
I think this is simply the best restaurant in San Diego - if Michelin reviewed Southern California it would have One Star for sure! For great food for serious foodies its a simply a beautiful setting to eat at .
Just the loveliest setting. Always a treat.
We always celebrate our birthdays with lunch at Veladora. Ambience is great, cozy with nice view. Indoor or outdoor dining with a comfortable bar. The service is always pleasant and professional and menu has variety of choices. They provide a pretty little dessert for the B-Day girls.
