The food here is very authentic and the quality is worth the price. Definitely my favorite sushi spot in Atlanta!!
Excellent! Never a disappointment
We went for our anniversary, although the service and food was great I would go here more as a casual spot than anniversary dinner. But great experience non the less.
Umi is our weekly date night. The food is sophisticated, creative, and delicious. The service is elegant, friendly. I don't eat beef anywhere else 'ever' but crave for Kobe-beef Nigiri at Umi. Also, the Shrimp Tempura Appetizer is to die for. For those who like elegantly delicious Japanese food, Umi is a must visit.
Visited most recently for a business meal but have been before for a date night. The food and service are impeccable. Some of my favorites: spicy tuna crunchy rice, fatty tuna nigiri, yellowtail jalapeno, Rock shrimp and tuna carpaccio. Honestly, every dish was delicious. You can’t go wrong!
I was treated to Umi by my friend who was in town doing some R&D research on the best sushi in town. Umi did not disappoint! Clearly the freshest and most expertly prepared seafood product in town. The service from the beginning was impeccable. We stuck for the most part to the classics—nigiri, sashimi, black cod, and a few of the newer fusion (monk fish liver pate, rock shrimp tempura).
The seafood—from buttery chu and o-toro, hamachi, uni and squid—were the best I’ve tasted in Atlanta, with subtle touches of uni and citrus, and all at the right temperature. The monkfish liver pate was very smooth—maybe could be served a touch less cold, but understandable to keep its shape. The black cod was on the verge of being too sweet, but the texture was amazingly soft. The only complaint was that the rock shrimp was too salty (rehydrated mushroom garnish were almost inedibly salty), and oddly enough a touch too spicy, but the crunch and sauce viscosity were right. I have to compliment the pickled ginger—addictively astringent and NOT sweet like the commercial crap we often get. Service was always present but not intrusive. We closed it down as the earlier last minute reservation we could get was 9 pm on a Monday night. I didn’t see the bill but mentally, I know we probably put it down payment on a small house. DELICIOUS, DECADENT, DIVINE indulgence.
The food was great! Wish Umi was a bigger and more spacious. I felt squished in the restaurant. Our server Peter was very professional and a pleasure. Will come back !
Our server was awesome!!
Our favorite restaurant in ATLANTA
Amazing melt in your mouth food and excellent excellent service!!
Lovely - had to wait a while even though reservation was made however complimentary appetizers were served immediately upon being seated
A little bit of a wait but excellent service and amazing food. Definitely will be back!
Everything was lovely
Always a favorite spot!
Umi is one of best, if not the best, restaurant in Atlanta. The servers are fantastic and friendly... it’s the best sushi I’ve ever had-anywhere.
Family get together
Umi is one of our favorite restaurants in Atlanta. The food is consistently excellent. Highly recommend.
Food was good but overpriced, tables were stacked on top of each other. Not good for intimate date night.
Birthday dinner. Fantastic (as always).
Always delicious! The best sushi in Atlanta and probably the Southeast! Love the restaurant. The service is wonderful, the chefs are amazing and the food the best sushi around. The servers are all knowledgable and helpful. We just ask them to plan our meal for us. We are never disappointed!
As always, excellent service and exquisite food. Anything you order always exceeds our expectations. Great ambiance and super fun to go with a big or small group. Definitely my favorite place in Atlanta.
Food and service were both excellent! The Spicy Tuna and Yellowtail appetizers are my favorites! Only complaint is that it can get loud during peak times.
Amazing sushi. Seriously, amazing. We were only disappointed with what an awful table we were given which did put a damper on the meal. We booked a month in advance so we were shocked to be put in such a terrible seat. However, the food was worth visiting Buckhead which is not usually our scene and certainly not as fun as the rest of Atlanta.
Eh.... Service was good. The sushi Id give a 4 out of 5. Honestly, for the price, Ive had better. Super trendy Buckhead crowd - just not really my scene.
Excellent food and service. Very loud
We love Umi. The best sushi in ATL. We have eaten many times at MF, and while we love MF, Umi is just that much better. Umi is consistent, authentic, and not heavy handed. Every dish is perfectly executed. We only order off menu and let them feed us, whatever the chef is preparing that night is what we get. The BEST experience every single time. Service is outstanding, and Daniel has waited on us a number of times. He listens to our requests and always graciously accommodates! We highly recommend Umi. You will absolutely not be disappointed!! (But if you plan to go on a Friday or Saturday night, plan in advance! Reservations are hard to get!)
I have been to many good Japanese restaurants including Urasawa and Nobu but I had the worst experience. My reservation was at 6pm and I got there at 6:23. I got late because my lyft driver was having hard time finding the location. I let the restaurant know that I am running late at 6:13. The hostess said grace period is 15 minutes. I asked her please allow me some time and I am out of stater. I was really looking forward to this and I even made a reservation two weeks ago. When I got there the manager gave me a very rude attitude and said they cannot sit us at the sushi bar bc we are 6 minutes over grace period. I even told him we will finish asap so next reservation won't be interrupted. He said no and he sat us at the first table from the bar. All I saw was someone's butt and legs throughout the whole dinner. It was so bad that some guy's butts are touching the edge of our table. Food was generous compare to price and server was great. However this is definitely not a friendly restaurant. Not worth it for your money. I attached the pictures of how close the people's behind and our table.
We were seated 50 minutes after our reservation time. Very frustrating when Umi is so strict about cancellation and patrons not being late for reservation time.
I’m from Houston, My most favorite restaurant in atlanta.... it’s best food, service, people watching, great music..... truly fabulous. When in town I go every night.
Incredible!!! Everything about the service was fantastic, the server was on top of everything. The dessert is a MUST!!!!
I feel the seats are tooooo close together....no privacy. That's my only complaint
This place is not only excellent from a culinary perspective but it’s THE SCENE. We loved the people watching, amazing menu, incredible desserts & their wonderful team. It’s definitely worth it. Autumn was our server. Ask for her:)
UMI is a lovely space filled with music, not brightly lit and oh so hip. Be prepared for an unforgettable time!
Umi is always an amazing experience. The sushi is excellent, I've never had a bad meal there. It is pricey, but the service is always great (it's nice when the recognize you when you walk in and acknowledge that you're a fairly frequent customer). Yellowtail Jalapeno, Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, Avocado salad w/ wasabi vinaigrette, Chilean Sea Bass and Otoro Caviar are always my favorites.
Outstanding service and food.. Very pricey but worth it
The restaurant was superb. The food tasted amazing especially the sea bass. The service was also somewhat quick. The only complaint I had was that the portions were too small for the entrees. The scallops and lobster were small portions, but the sea bass was just right. I hope you can increases the portions for further customers. Otherwise, this restaurant is superb and I would recommend it to anyone for dinner!
Bottom line = the service isn’t just bad, it’s horrendous and offensive. Had a large group for a business dinner. And the server was mostly focused on getting us through our courses and out the door. At no point was she gracious or courteous. Pretentious crap.
Way too Loud, could not hear my husband across for me, crammed, too dark that we couldn’t even read the menu and took too long to get a drink ordered at our table. Food was ok, over priced food and drinks.
Have dined here on multiple occasions and always had a tremendous experience. The had made a mistake on their end with my reservation and questioned me in front of a customer like I was on trial. Rushed the three of us through dinner which was quite noticeable. Was there for nor more than an hour and a half, spent $ 400 on our meal for dinner for three and it felt like we were at a fast food restaurant .
I called back to voice my displeasure with a manager the following day and he basically articulated that they basically allot windows of time for customers and that the next time I would have to contact them in advance if I wanted to stay longer through our meal. Incredible that would come from the mouth of a manager.
Didn’t even aploogize for the interrogation about the time of my reservation in front of a customer of mine.
This experience completely changed my opinion and perspective on this establishment and I articulated this to the manager and he said he’ll make a note of that on my account. Amazing !
This has now gone from a restaurant I would frequent every time I’m in town and also recommending, to an establishment I will never refer moving forward or frequent in the future.
Unfortunate how poor service and management can be a deal breaker.
