What Insiders Are Saying

The Infatuation

As far as classic, good-for-everything establishments go, it’s hard to beat the Wolseley. The breakfasts here are an essential London experience.

Ratings 8.0-8.5:The best way to think about restaurants in the low to mid 8′s is that these are the places you would absolutely go back to, anytime. These restaurants are ones that you want to bring a friend to, just so they can also experience the duck carnitas, or burger, or whatever dish the place is known for.

We always return to the Wolseley every time we visit London - and it never fails to impress; both with their impeccable service, ambiance and tasty, reasonably priced food! I also particularly noticed the camaraderie between the staff this time - they all genuinely seem to be great friends and it seems like a happy place to work!
I always recommend the Wolseley whenever friends from Norway or Scotland visit London - you just can't go wrong eating here. Keep doing what you're doing best and we will be returning in the near future!

Very disappointing. Beef was excellent. Service was bad. No bread plate. Potatoes were dry. Yorkshire pudding was dry and nor enough au jus. When we ordered a side of vegetables the waiter didn't mention that the meal came with vegetables. Had to pour our own wine all night. Service around us seemed fine. We were just ignored. The ambiance was very nice. The evening was disappointing because of the service.

One of our favorite places in London for breakfast or post theater dining. Attentive and gracious staff, delicious local fare, efficient service without making you feel rushed. And the fried kippers are the stuff of lifetime memories.

This was perhaps the worst experience I have had at a London restaurant...we arrived late delayed by a torrential downpour and the traffic caused by the Trump protest rally...our reward was to be seated next to the door to the bathroom...pretentious, arrogant management...vastly overrated food and service.....overall a miserable dinner

Superb service in a luxurious atmosphere. Classic English cuisine prepared at the highest standards. One of the treats here is quietly searching for film and stage personalities trying to stay out of the limelight.

It's always a treat to enter and to be seated by the wonderful staff!
They were very friendly to us and especially to my Grandson who celebrated
his 10th Birthday!
We will be back soon in our favorite restaurant!

Excellent restaurant and brilliant value for money. The food and wines are first class and the ambience is brilliant. Can’t recommend this highly enough. Have been there many times for breakfast lunch and dinner and it never fails to cater for the best experience in dining.

Could have been so much better. Menu and food excellent. Staff and service poor. Despite having a reservation our table wasn’t ready, we were told to go to the bar to have a drink and we would be called, which was something of a joke. The bar is too small to allow for a pre meal drink. It took some time to get served and there was very limited seating available causing us to stand. We were not called as promised when our table was ready, we had to ask a member of bar staff to chase this for us. Eventually we were seated at a table which we then asked to change. We had requested a table by a wall as two of our party had hearing defects and loud noise caused discomfort and confusion. The staff did oblige eventually, we had to wait for a suitable table to be prepared . The Wolseley is incredibly noisy which maybe fine for some but does make conversation difficult, also understanding the staff is not easy under such noisy conditions.
Having been seated at our new table we were eventually able to order our meal. We were brought bread and butter. Please don’t expect a side plate, you are left to eat your bread directly off the tablecloth. Very odd and not to our liking. We did ask for side plates but just received a smile.
Our first course arrived which we all enjoyed, the chopped liver was very good and a very generous portion. Our plates were not cleared but our main course arrived. The waiting staff became flustered and apologised for the error. This then caused, for some reason for us to be pretty much ignored for the rest of the meal. We needed to attract the attention of staff for the dessert menu and then again to order, all of which was unnecessary as the restaurant seemed well staffed. The one aspect of service that did appear very promptly was the bill and rather than leave us for a couple of minutes to check our bill the waiter stood at our table with the credit card machine.

The Wolseley is a beautiful place, and its doorman and decor gave my out of town visitors a lovely hit of English style. The waiter was asked by the young woman in our party which he would recommend, the coq au vin or the steak, and he was flustered, and could not/would not recommend. "Well, one is chicken and one is beef," was all he had to say, which is odd in a fine restaurant. I had the scallops and they were only mediocre, sadly, and my taste of my friend's coq au vin was not good -- as though the sauce had been nearly burned. My other friend loved his hamburger, however, and I am told that breakfasts are superb there, and I will be tempted to give that a try. Also the bread was excellent. Many friends love this place, and I'll give it another try before writing it off. But it did not live up to its prices on this visit.

On this occasion the service was poor. We waited ages for our order to be taken and to be served. Drinks had to be asked for twice and the staff were surley and rushed. Yes the restaurant was busy but never experienced this before.

I love the Wolseley its a great spot for brunch and the food is always good.

I was disappointed with the service this time, it all seemed a bit disjointed. Our breakfasts arrived at different times, we struggled to get drinks and there was definitely a general lack of care which I would not expect from this establishment based on the level of pricing.

Come on guys sharpen up!

Great atmosphere; beautiful dining room and super location. Cosmo cocktails were the best I’ve had- would thoroughly recommend. Nice steak, delicious fries and a tasty dessert. Service was a little disappointing from what I remember from a previous visit ( slow to be served: had to ask for serviettes and to order drinks)

Have always loved lunch at the Wolseley but will look for another restaurant next time.
We weren’t looked after very well. Our waiter was always somewhere else when we wanted him. We ordered a side of fries and he didn’t tell us that fries came with one of the dishes. He poured silly amounts of wine and didn’t top up until we asked, just before we ordered the bill. It was as though he wanted to keep the rest of the bottle for later!
The menu wasn’t seasonal, schnitzel and onion soup is not wanted in 80 degree weather.

The food was great, I had the traditional Plat du Jour and enjoyed it.
Portion was quite large, a bit mean with veggies, though.
The waiter accidentially smashed a glass on the table and the tiny shards went everywhere, making me reluctant to put my bread down, I should have asked to be moved.

LOVE The Wolseley!!! It's such a great and energetic London vibe. Delicious food, wine and amazing staff. It's always a most whenever in town. Great for a quite intimate dinner or with a group of friends, either way you can't go wrong here and everyone is always so attentive and welcoming. I wish they would open one in NYC soon.

The big advantage of the Wolseley is its accoustics. You can hear the person opposite despite all the clatter around. It is unlike modern built restaurants with their tin drum plaster-board bouncing the noise back at you. So as a saga type 60 something , the Wolseley scores highly for the hard of hearing,
Plus great staff, food and ambience.

I love the Wolseley - not my best visit and was left standing at the front of house for a long time as they were so busy and clearly were running behind a bit with moving people on from tables and getting them turned over (it was a Tuesday lunch time with my table booked for 12.30). The wait I didn't mind exactly, but I was just left standing there as everyone else behind me in the queue was seated, rather than maybe being directed to an area I could stand and wait without feeling like I was in everyone's way or was going to be forgotten. Overall the food was lovely though and service swift and attentive once we were seated..

Our waiter was just an outstanding member of the service staff. Front of house at reception was so-so, a bit disinterested and unengaged but it was more and made up by the waiter - whose name I regeretfully did not get - who was efficient, helpful and went out of his way to meet our asks. Bravo!

Very disappointed with quality of service on what was meant to be a special Father’s Day lunch - apparently too much to expect a fresh glass to taste a new bottle of wine, we also waited around half hour for a G&T to make its way from bar to our table. The head waiter noted the poor quality of one of our main courses and decided to deduct from the bill. We won’t be going back
