Wonderful service and amazing views of the beach, would certainly recommend.
We went for my 23rd birthday. Love the ambiance and food. Server seemed to be new or just forgetful. But other than that, I enjoyed myself and loved it here.
The setting on the beach is beautiful. Try to get a table next to the ocean - it's even more beautiful. The staff is excellent. They are attentive without being overwhelming. Food is very good. The lovely location and open patio make this a perfect spot during Covid.
The food was great, beautiful view and excellent service.
The food was well presented and excellently prepared. The patio was a bit windy and chilly but there were no complimentary blankets when asked for.
Incredible beach, surf, and sunset vistas! The food was ok. My burger was still pink inside despite my "well-done wishes", but the truffle fries were good. My daughter's turkey cobb was great! The bill included a service fee and quite high for two people, one cocktail dinner. Over $70.00. The service was not good nor what you would expect from this beautiful vista. I was told I would have a very long wait to get mustard as my waitress would have to go very far away to fetch the condiment. I told her that was fine and whenever she had the chance. Then she turned around & asked the bus guy to grab it. He returned in less than three minutes with my mustard. There were other requests that I learned she would not be responsible for so I got for myself- no problem. The heaters were very welcome and made this an enjoyable expereince!
It was Beautiful
We love this place. Been going for 15+ years. Must have been an off night. Food was just OK. Salmon was over cooked.
Great place, great service. Quality of food is comeserate with the price
View is terrific however the food was below what I would have expected
Been dining here for over 15 years. Normally I would say I would definitely go there again. However - they were having a pretty off day on their service when we went there this weekend. One of the dishes we ordered was the steak and lobster. My wife could only eat about a third of it, and wanted to get it boxed up for later (she really loves the claws and was looking forward to shredding them up in a salad later). A busser took the plate and tossed it in the trash instead (we found out 15 or so minutes later after we paid the bill.)
Long story short - they threw most of what was the most expensive thing on the menu in the trash instead of boxing it to go, and, instead of refunding part of the difference, or boxing up a comparable to-go box for us, someone said they would get the manager. Well - after an additional half hour (keep in mind we had paid the bill already, so we are at 45 minutes of this after we paid) who proceeded to tell us some strange story about them not being able to give us the lobster and they had to put a small flimsy piece of salmon in there instead. And then proceeded to get insolent and argumentative (mind you - we paid the bill *checks watch* ALMOST AN HOUR AGO!) It was just some kind of weird twilight zone bush-league stupidity that you would get at a Denny's at 2am and the manager just puffed a fatty in the parking lot before coming in to work, kind of thing. Not something you would expect at a restaurant of this caliber or standing. Very disappointing that this was handled so horribly by their manager. That's why I prefaced this review with "Normally I would say I would definitely go there again - However..."
Anyway, it really is a good place, this may have been an off day, and hopefully not their new normal. Probably will go there again, sometime. Some advice though - if you get there and it looks like the are having an off day in service - RUN!
Excellent food, safety, and service in a physically-distanced outdoor patio environment with direct access from the beach at La Jolla Shoes.
Service was slow to nonexistent. Food was good, hot and freshly made. The waitstaff just killed our experience.
I want to say that the food was good, but the service and attention to the customer from the staff was great. Particularly the manager on duty. Unfortunately, I did not catch her name. She handled a bad situation almost perfectly. She made sure her dining room was pleasant and the guests were able to enjoy their meal. She treated my wife and me with respect. I saw her treat a child like he was her own grandchild. She encouraged him to finish his meal. And he did it. The mother was very thankful.
I had the Surf and Turf. My wife had the butterfish. The food was what you expect.
We will be back knowing we will get this type of service.
Incredibly awful. Extremely disappointing lunch. Will not be back. Such a sad use of a beautiful space. Food was awful. Service was ... meh. Disappointing.
Celebrating our 40th anniversary! Food and service was great. Nice ocean view table. Couldn’t ask for more. Well be back
Always a Pleasure
Lunch on the patio, two friends reuniting. Sunny Autumn day, beautiful beach front view.
She had the salmon and I the turkey cobb salad. Dessert was to die for "Triple Layer Chocolate Mousse Cake." All were delectable. The Shores is my go-to restaurant for guests and to impress.
Due to Covid had to sit on Patio but the food was really good for a casual lunch!
As always, staff was wonderful. It's truly a superb place to dine on the beach, but doesn't break the bank.
Amazing staff and service!
I love The Shores. The food, service and the view is always excellent. We went for the lobster boil and really enjoyed it. Great place to go for lunch too. It was cool outside so they brought over a heater so it was a perfect meal.
Normally a fan of this place...the lobster was way overcooked and chewy, the crab chowder was tasteless, and we waited forever for our meal to be served. I've been coming here since the 80s and I am surprised their food quality and quantity is slipping dramatically. $15 for a bowl of soup that was literally a lumpy, tasteless mess. Very disappointed in The Shores and will not be going back for a long, long time.
Service was slow, but quite a lovely luncheon. Prices much higher than before Covid.
The lobster boil lunch was fantastic!
The salad was awesome !
And the sangria was tasty
Enjoying the beach and ocean, from a table outside, delicious lunch meals and attentive, pleasant staff made this birthday celebration perfect. The special ice cream pie, was the icing on the cake!
Great secluded area...very personalized...Good food but more selections would be even better.
The restaurant is inside a hotel on the beach. There was plenty of dining outside but we sat inside so were all alone--but a fabulous view of the water! Food was outstanding as was the service. We started with splitting a perfect Caesar Salad, more than enough for two. I had the Butterfish (yummy) and Onion Rings, I mean what can I say? My husband had the paparadelli with shrimps and scallops which he said was wonderful too. THEN we really went to town and had dulce leche cream brulee. Our water, Jesse, was training Bella and we could not have had better service, we were treated like visiting royalty. There is parking in the lot under the hotel and they validate parking, but, get this, we found a legal spot on the street in LA JOLLA! We knew it was going to be a great lunch and we were right.
We had an excellent dinner at The Shores. Our food was great, dessert was unique, and the atmosphere was good as well. My family has been coming here for years. Love this place!
Great beachfront restaurant! Great food and great view! Nice place to watch the sunset.
It was a perfect place to celebrate our son’s milestone birthday.
Great experience with my mom. Really appreciate everything.
Fantastic setting and food. It was a little chilly so we were able to request a heater to be brought by our table.
Want the perfect place to take your partner to celebrate a special occasion - well, this is the place!! We loved the Margarita Flight and the Angus Steak and Butterfish main courses and topped it off with the Creme Brulee and Passion Fruit Cheese Cake! WOW - it was the perfect sunset within our view and the service was outstanding!!! Hope to come back again and will highly recommend this restaurant for a delightful experience!!
food is very average and expensive -- but it is on the beach, Needs renovation desperately - -very run down facility. Food is no big deal-- won't be going back anytime soon.
Great view loved it !
This is great for families. If you are lucky enough to get a seat outdoor next to the window, then it would be wonderful. Otherwise you might get stuck further away or inside. Inside has not been revamped and is super outdated. Tables look old and dirty. The restaurant needs a serious facelift. The view is nice if you enjoy looking at a very crowded beach.
I reserved a table outdoors and the first table offered was indoors, dark near the service area. I refused the table and indicated to the hostess my reservation was for an outdoors table. After the hostess indicated that is the only table they have I started walking away and then she took me to an outdoor table where there were 3 or 4 empty tables. I don't think I will use your Services again nor visit that restaurant again.
Really enjoyed food and atmosphere. Waitress was new or distracted but pleasant.
The food was very good but the steak sauce made the potatoes and salad soggy. The salad and potatoes should be in a separate dish.
Incredible view! Started with the tuna wontons - highly recommend!! Followed by the tuna bowl; we were not disappointed! The berry mojito was fabulous!
