The Shores Restaurant - La Jolla Shores Hotel
Need to book at 7:30 AM?Other great restaurants with availability.
We were out for a light meal and thought the menu looked promising. We ordered soup, a hamburger and fish tacos. All were tasty but the soup was cool and the tacos soggy. The meal “lacked greatness “
Best secret in town! Like a beach club grill, without the high membership fee. ❤️❤️
A special gathering of friends reuniting.
Excellent food and decor, located directly on the beach.
I would not recommend it to anyone. There is no signage for finding the restaurant from the parking garage. I have back trouble; walking is extremely painful. We walked for miles, it felt as if, before some kid told us to go to the lobby (which we couldn't find either) and ask. He knew where the lobby was and guided us to it. From there we tried to find the restaurant as there was no one at the desk. Finally someone appeared and gave us directions. I was almost in tears the pain was so severe. We were seated at a window table but there were two large parties near us. They were so loud I had to remove my hearing aids. The service was incredibly slow; our parking was for an hour and a half; we were at the table over two hours with no dessert or coffee and we had split a Caesar salad; my husband had cioppino, and I had the Crab, Lobster and shrimp sandwich. The food was good; the service slow and the restaurant was almost empty so there was no excuse. The trip to the restaurant from the parking garage is most unattractive. Signs would have made a major difference. It was the 60th anniversary of our first date and the experience put us both in bad moods. Not a successful celebration, to say the least.
Noisy, expensive, overcharged for parking.
Lovely casual spot - on the weekend crab. Nice service and delicious fodd
A table with a view. Yummy food and the whales were swimming by us today. Very nice!
First the view of the ocean and sunset was fantastic.
The salmon must moist and well prepared. There were several vegetarian options and I enjoyed the beet capriccio salad.
The hostess suggested flourless chocolate cake for dessert and it is not to be missed. We shared it and left feeling pleasantly stuffed.
My wife and I have been going to The Shores since 2006. At first, we just went there for birthdays, holiday brunch or other special occasions. Now we go there often. Even though we live in La Jolla, That view never gets old, and since they change up the menu at least quarterly, the menu never tires either.
Great service and good food. Well stocked bar. Incredible view.
Food was good. Good service. We got a great window seat as requested. Disappointment was in the drinks/cocktails as they taste cheaply made and were expensive. If The Shores can improve their cocktail/bar game I would give 5 stars!
Highly recommend happy hour at the bar especially when are watching Super Bowl KC WINS !!! Dint pay for garage parking total rip-off look for street parking instead
This was my second time dining here. The food was amazing as was the view. Our server Did not deliver as great of services as I’d experienced with my previous experience here. Now, I’m not sure if having a large party was the cause of this but we had requested our bill (for the second time) at 1:38pm and we still hadn’t received it at 1:55pm.
There was lots of confusion with my cash change as well.
Everyone in my party was a bit frustrated I’m that aspect but they all over the food and restaurant as a whole. Maybe some music for ambience for would be a nice addition as well.
Food on the Restaurant Week Menu was terrible. Get 1.5 hours of parking for free - after that $10.00. Service is slow and apparently timed for 1 hour - 40 minutes, so they can collect the extra $10.00.
We enjoyed good service, delicious and well presented dishes, from appetizers through dessert!
Visited for the first time during restaurant week. The food was excellent, service was great, and it would be hard to beat the views.
We had a great experience, enjoying the beautiful ocean view at sunset. Our waiter was exceptional. He brought tastings of two different wines so we could decide between them. He had good suggestions for appetizers and entrees, and even brought a delicious ice cream pie to celebrate my father's birthday there. The only thing that wasn't perfect was that we had to pay an additional $10 for parking in a nearly-empty underground lot. It seems like the hotel/restaurant could be a little more generous on the time alloted to dine there. We were 20 minutes over the validated time.
We love to go to The Shores Restaurant. The food is good, you never feel rushed and the location is beautiful.
No device mentality. Arrogant
New Year’s Day lunch with out of town guests. Worst service we’ve ever had in San Diego/La Jolla! Waitress never brought enough menus. We had to ask repeatedly for water refills. Side orders incorrect and placed on the wrong diner’s plate. Other side orders never arrived. Food arrived cold. Never received condiments we asked for. No one came to our table to check how our meals and service were. A waitress literally showed up 90 minutes after we ordered to give us one of the sides... as we were leaving the restaurant!
Inside the restaurant we saw trash, dust and crayons on the restaurant floor - not just beneath tables. Totally inadequate cleaning. Totally unappetizing.
The view is remarkable. However, the restaurant needs a qualified, conscientious manager and wait staff. We have literally been searching for alternative ocean view restaurants since 1/1 to enjoy ourselves and where we won’t be embarrassed to bring guests! Never again, The Shores Restaurant!
Food and service were excellent. Serving of bone in rib eye was generous in portion and value.
Open area seating, lends to a high noise level and takes away the ambiance of the occasion.
Overall this is a restaurant that I will frequent in the future.
A great place with fine service and very good food. Enjoyable to visit as often as possible. We like the views of the ocean and the great bar and convenient parking.
Only go there for the ambiance. Not fine dining - effectively only a bar menu. Even at that the food is mediocre at best. Gives free parking for 90 minutes but the slow service makes it impossible to finish in 90 minutes. So expect to pay $10 for parking. Also a 4% surcharge is added blamed on the State of California for requiring the minimum wage. Good for families with children since it is normally almost empty.
In need of renovation. Went for dinner on Christmas and had a very over priced buffet. Waiter was great, food was mediocre and not worth the money
No salad food (spinach, lettuce,tomatesetc.
Very limited bread selection.
Four different stations to get food.
What, no ice cream?????????
Where was the olive oil?
Excellent food and excellent service. It was a great experience and if you like the ocean you can watch the waves and enjoy the view. Great overall experience
I was a little disappointed in the buffet. Food was warm and not overly hot. Some of the stations did not have what they stated. There was very little cheese selection. I just figured for the price it would have been better. I also know that these people gave up their holiday to take care of others. So thank you for that.
The food was quite dry. Understandable for a Christmas buffet, but not worth the money I paid.
As always this place had beautiful ambience. The beach and ocean views are outstanding. The food on the other hand, was not up to their normal high standard. It was a Christmas Day buffet that sounded much better on the menu than it was in actuality. And, at $68 per person it was definitely not a good value.
We will continue to go there for lunch and maybe an occasional dinner; but, definitely not for their "Holiday Buffet".
The food was not that good, and it was certainly not worth the high price. Some of the food was rather dry, such as the French toast and sausage. The prime rib could have been cooked better. The service and ambience was good, but we'll definitely not go there again.
A group of us come here to meet and catch up and have designated the restaurant as our favorite place!
Love the view!! The food is very good and the service was great.
My biggest disappointment was with the parking. We parked underground and assumed that parking validation would be for 2 hours, the usual amount of time for a relaxing meal. As we got our parking validated, the hostess said, “ This is for 1 and a half hours”. We stayed for 1 hour and 45 minutes and had to pay $10 for parking. We were not pleased. We may choose another restaurant in the future that covers parking.
Lovely birthday lunch at The Shores!! 3 of us had a wonderful lunch at the shores last week.
2 of us were celebrating our birthdays on that exact day and one of us has one coming up in the next week.
We had a comfy booth by the window where we could watch the ocean.
The food and wine choices were so tempting that we had trouble deciding but ended up with fish tacos, crab cakes and the seasonal special mussels. We also had the caesar salad and the house salad.
I had a sauvignon blanc and one friend had a pinot grigio to go along with the meal.
We took our time eating and enjoyed the quiet atmosphere.
Our server brought out a complimentary birthday dessert ice cream cake with berries that was delicious!
For such a lovely spot and wonderful food choices the total price was very reasonable and we will certainly return to enjoy it again!!
I carefully chose this restaurant after doing some research on Open Table. I booked three weeks in advance. The menu and reviews won me over. My fiancé and I were celebrating. Three days before the reservation a hostess contacted me to confirm the reservation. At no time was I informed that an all-you-can-eat turkey buffet was being served. The menu was completely different. The waitress and the staff were not concerned that the restaurant put us in that position. It was a long way to drive for nothing.
We've done this Thanksgiving buffet for a few years now. Not so impressed this year. Perhaps because we came an hour earlier, the dining room was crammed full of tables to accommodate the crowd with little room in between and less-than-private conversation opportunity. The buffet was very disjointed; a road map would have been useful. There were lots of interesting choices, including the classics, which we appreciate. Pumpkin pie seemed store bought. Disappointing.
I was visiting from Charlotte, visiting San Diego and saw it advertised and booked it not knowing about this particular place but know of La Jolla. But excellent choice we all enjoyed not only food but company! Your service staff were great as well!!!
I think this is our tenth Thanksgiving at The Shores. I keep thinking it can't get any better and then it does. The food is great. But the staff is greater. So warm and welcoming. It feels like home.
Where do I begin...first of all it was birthday dinner. We knew we were in trouble when we walked into dining room and there was only one other table of patrons on a Friday night at 7pm. Asked about the Lobster special as stated on menu to ask server well she didn't know anything about it. At that point we decided to cut our losses..spouse ordered Cowboy Burger medium rare received dried out well done smothered in BBQ sauce burger (Carl's Jr. would have been better). I ordered short ribs..small fatty piece of meat with mashed potatoes slapped into small bowl. And don't get me started on our stay at hotel..let me just say it was similar to our dining experience...I give this place another six months.
