Beautiful view but food is mediocre and servers have no emotion. My shrimp and grits dish had potential but arrived with no butter or salt and the shrimp was over cooked and chewy. Server took our teabag away after we asked for more hot water and never came back. Such a failure for such a beautiful location.
God awful. One of the worst meals I've ever had. And it was chicken. Who can screw up chicken? These guys. Luke-warm thigh pieces wrapped in skin and fat. Barely edible. Paired with some green soupy stuff and shavings of asparagus. The service matched the food. The waitress seemed like she didn't want to be there, or at least didn't want to be serving us. She couldn't have been less friendly, and seemed put out we asked for the whereabouts of bread we ordered almost as soon as we sat down. I could go on and on, but I won't. Bottom line, we'll never go back, and wish we'd never gone there in the first place.
Loved this restaurant! We enjoyed the Mother’s Day brunch buffet. The weather cleared up perfectly and we were seated right by the huge window with a view of the water. Food was excellent and our waiter Tanner was very nice.
The service was excellent. The food varies. I have had some items that are wonderful while others are not to be desired.
We’ve eaten here for the past 4 years and were impressed with their regular menu on Mother’s Day. This year, they switched it up and did a buffet style which was really lackluster for $89/person. When I was called 2 weeks prior to confirm, I was not informed that it was a buffet or that it would be $89/person. What a surprise for my wife, mother in law and I (who are all doing keto right now) to find that the only option available was the buffet. If I would have known it was a buffet at $89/person I would have switched my reservation. I’ll chalk this up to a learning experience for the future, but in the moment I was pretty bummed to spend that much for something that we didn’t want.
They need to stick to what they’re good at which is their standard brunch and dinner menus. They’re fantastic. Service can be a little spotty at times at dinner if you’re on the terrace because sometimes the wait staff have tables in the main sitting room so it’s quite a walk for them.
We had a wonderful Mother’s Day brunch at the Med. One thing however was disturbing. We were initially seated at a back tiny balcony for 2 after I requested a balcony seat. We did not accept this as there was a very noisy table of 16 immediately next to us. We were ultimately seated at the main balcony were 4 tables of 2 were readily available. I found the attempt to put us in this off spot very unnecessary
Was there for Mother's Day brunch and had a wonderful time.
Beautiful setting, but sitting on the Patio is cold. The food was beautiful and not huge portions but more than adequate. Service was a little slow and difficult to get refills on the water and drinks while you wait for your food. Even so we will be back.
Rebekah has served us before and was excellent as always! We got engaged here so this place is extremely close to our hearts, and continues to impress us every time we come back.
Pretentious and expensive. Food was created by an executive chef and it was interesting and a few of the items were OK, but most of our dishes were not very good. Not a place I will go back to, there are so many better places in La Jolla. Outdoor patio dining had a nice view of the ocean and the sunset. Inside they had some hack singers trying to sing Sinatra and Italian arias but they were annoying and irritating.
The restaurant was empty at prime dining hour which was clearly an indication.
Menu is lacking.
Food was mediocre.
Staff killed us with kindness but was not attentive.
Really the only thing this spot has going for it is the killer views.
Not a value at all and I will not return.
Very beautiful view sitting out on the terrace. A misunderstanding with our outside reservation but they took care of it as quickly as possible. Overall a lovely lunch.
DIsappointing for the price. Excellent soup and starter. Main dishes too sparse.
A lovely oasis of beauty and calm, with excellent service.
Had a great Sunday brunch outside overlooking the water! Service was great, Classic Bloody Mary was the best I've had in a long time, and food was very good. The cast iron cinnamon roll is not to be missed! I had the Lobster roll - amazing. There were 5 of us and 4 of the 5 entrees were excellent -- But the shrimp chilaquiles were just OK: the shrimp was not super fresh, eggs were undercooked, and sauce was not all as flavorful as it should be. All in all will def be back though!
Breath Taking views. Exquisite food, service could have been a little better.
Fantastic food with and even better view!
The hostess table was hard to locate. The hostess was extremely slow in seating us after we found her. The heaters on the patio were out of propane. The food was not yummy at all and overpriced. We had a very poor experience.
Went there for brunch- definitely a solid choice for a terrific view and indulgent brunch fare.
*Ask to sit outside to enjoy a spectacular view of the Pacific from the terrace
*Nice selection of Mimosas and Bloody Marys (the latter almost a meal in itself- had La V = shrimp, bacon, and Himalayan salt)
*Med Spreads starter is large and has one of the best tzatzikis we've ever had
*Biscuits + Gravy is hearty and filling
*Lobster Monsieur came with market salad and tasty smoked fennel soup
*Service is prompt and cheerful
*Parking is very challenging. Use one of the nearby lots or valet through the hotel
*Lobster Monsieur used cheaper, drier claw meat, and there was a hair in my spinach
*Brunch Board was average
*Men's restroom had no paper towels or toilet paper
Despite these cons, the pros won out. A nice way to spend a relaxing brunch in La Jolla with a killer view.
Our food was cold, service forgot our drinks, no refills after we got them, bread was tough and old.
Great location and classic interior design with great views.
Get drinks don't eat there!
Visiting our 91 year old Mom - dined here for lunch - this is a first class dining experience!
Edgar our waiter was so professional and kind! Next time we are in town/ we will be back !
Went for Easter Brunch. I was expecting phenomenal food, but it was just OK. I think it's hard to prepare for that many people. But it was fun, and the Easter Bunny made it's rounds.
La Valencia is one of my absolute favourite places to dine. The food is amazing along with the service and view. I’ve never had a bad experience or meal in over 20 years of dining with them.
I reserved a table for 6 in advance and requested a table with view and specifically told the hostess that my uncle is 80s something years old and this will be his first time out of the house for years. Two Hostesses told me they will try their best. When we got there , there were a lot of empty tables but they sat us the farthest to the buffet with no view. My uncle who 80s had to walk 2 stairs every time he needed to get his food. It was disappointing
They were doing construction. The noise was terrible. I would have appreciated being told up front. When we complained they moved us outside then they basically ignored us. Ruined a birthday brunch. Will never visit this place again.
The current menu is just abysmal, very odd items, our party of three struggled to find anything to order. Would have left if we weren't there as guests. We did each order an entree but just pushed it around the plate, left hungry. Not every diner wants trendy food choices, there should be at least one item in each category that is simple and doesn't have ingredients one has never heard of. The only salad was kale...yuck! I have eaten there several times before without a problem.
Elegant atmosphere and wonderful food. Our server, Rebecca picked the perfect wines to go with dinner. The scallops were fantastic, the sea bass superb and the octopus tender and flavorful. The dark chocolate mousse with milk chocolate cremeux , chocolate sponge, white chocolate coconut ganache, almond pavlova and cherry gelato was seriously the best dessert I’ve ever eaten.
The La Valencia is historically a wonderful place to stay or dine.
There is not a better view or location.
We were at the restaurant for a small shower and the service was impeccable and the food was just perfect for our brunch.
I would highly recommend it for couple, quiet celebrations, and an very nice place to dine.
Its a lovely restaurant but not stuffy.
Excellent. Our fave “go-to” for Sunday brunch.
The restaurant has some beautiful views of the pacific and an old world charm. Unfortunately, the food does not justify the cost of the experience. We ordered the brunch board to start - $18 for two pieces of cheese, a small choc croissant, a small butter croissant, and a few pieces of fruit? Hmm - the pastries were pedestrian and puny.
I had the blue crab and goat cheese omelet. Not bad - a decent amount of blue crab, but it was generally lacking in flavor. My wife had the chilaquiles without the shrimp. Again - no flavor. We had asked for jalapeños but didn’t get them. The fresh toast was good, and the açaí bowl was fine.
I would have expected more for $120 (incl tip) for 4 people with only two coffees as beverages.
Amazing everything especially the service! The wait for food was incredible !
Great view and good food. Had a really nice time there. Beautiful place to have brunch.
Beautiful location, very relaxing, with a delicious menu! Easy kids menu as well.
Restaurant was beautiful & not very crowded. Waitress was exceptional & the food excellent
Overall meal was good. The view from the patio was excellent and the service was very good. Great place for a nice lunch
The location and food were excellent. Service was slow by any measure. Initial greeting by server took an extended time. That said, drinks arrived timely after we ordered. We ordered a mixed green salad to share as the first course and that took more than 20 minutes to arrive. It was clear that other tables were being given celebrate status treatment as we watched them receive attention from our server. When the entres arrived, the food was outstanding and the recommended wines were excellent.
February evenings are still chilly in La Jolla and at one point the outdoor heater near our table was taken away and given to another table. All the heaters were in a row down the center aisle and this heater was pulled out of the main aisle and placed within a few feet of the table just seated. Nobody asked or even acknowledged the need for a move.
The Med at La Valencia hotel is a gem! The outdoor terrace has amazing views of the La Jolla shoreline. They have an extensive wine list. Our waitress was amazing! She made us feel as though we were her only table. We both ordered the lobster roll. Mine came with a generous side salad, and the other came with tasty french fries. Everything was just perfect!
Superb, always. Serving staff was exceptional. Food was wonderful. “Customer first” was obvious. Guest was, as all of our guests are when we come in, most impressed.
We’ll be back soon.
Delicious food, served expertly by very professional staff, in a gorgeous setting with a fabulous view of the Pacific. Couldn't have been better!
