Overall, a very nice experience. You can't beat the oceanfront location. But the restaurant itself is so dated and stuffy. Definitely a throwback...not contemporary. The food was excellent. Not a great value but I expect a place like this to be overpriced.
My wife and I came here for our wedding anniversary. The food was exceptional, the presentation quite creative. I'm a beef lover, but we ended up having duck, lamb and elk...and I was not disappointed.
The cocktails, pre meal, were superb, the wine was excellent and the service from Diego was 5* all the way. Pleasant, professional and on the spot!
I highly recommend Marina Room for a wonderful culinary experience.
One other notable point, the bar has the same spectacular view of the ocean, and with the quality of the cocktails, we will return just to enjoy happy hour and some cocktails. A wonderful place!!
Celebrated our (belated) 53rd Anniversary at the Marine Room. It was a wonderful experience. Life is good anywhere when you’re with that special someone, but extraordinary when you have brunch at high tide in the Marine Room n LaJolla, CA.
Had a big problem with a gift card I received as a birthday gift. I had been told it was for $300 and purchased 3 years ago. Finally got back to LaJolla and looked forward to Marine Room after many previous visits starting decades ago. I presented the card after dinner and was told only $100 on card.
I explained the $300, but NO way the Marine Room would agree or settle for anything over their $100 amount. Obviously dinner for two with tip was well $300
Great atmosphere, fantastic service.
Food prices seem high. There are other more affordable restaurants with similar or better food.
So expensive for the portion and taste. We made a reserbation, and when we arrived the table is not ready
Bad part was they rushed us through our apps at 5pm and made us sit at 530 when our reservation was at 6. Dinner was served in 15min before bread came. They rushed us!
The restaurant was a little gem, from the entrance to the seating area, everything looked and felt like a sweet country home. Seeing the waves up close was very nice and the food was very special. My only issue was with the waiting staff and it is trivial but for the value shouldn't occur. More than one piece of bread should be offered, I had a stew type of dish and dipping your bread is kinda required. Other than that it was perfect, I would recommend to friends but I do not plan on going back as it did cost a small fortune.
Everything was excellent as usual. Food was good, but a bit overdressed and covered with too much flavoring; at least the fish we had were over seasoned. Next time we’ll ask for a toned-down versions. We will return as we have for years. Parking was a bit steep: $10.00 for valet, no choice. Great bar and happy hour. Watched nature from the windows
Absolutely fantastic. Staff was very courteous matched the groups intensity as well. Whenever in San Diego area will be going back.
Excellent food in an excellent setting
We celebrated a birthday on a Saturday evening, arriving in time for an amazing sunset. It was several minutes before we were seated and rather than being given a window seat as requested, we were seated at a table in the middle. The place has an incredible location right next to the ocean and lights illuminate the breaking waves after dark. The food, although good, is way overpriced. The Caesar salad, tossed table side, was just okay, the romaine could have been fresher and for $18 each, should have been. One of the entrees, a steak special which cost $85, wasn’t cooked properly and had to be sent back to the kitchen. The thing that really got me was the lack of toilet paper in the bathroom. You’d expect a restaurant of this quality to make sure the bathroom was at all times stocked with toilet paper.
Great place for a special occasion. Good food and great presentation. Service was also very good. The venue is a little pricy.
You can’t beat the view which is partly why it’s very pricey, expect $100 pp. the food was very good except the Cesar salad, their recipe had a bite to it which I couldn’t place. I’ve had other freshly prepared Cesar salads ie in New Orleans, which were better. I had seafood, scallops were great. Skipped desert n went into town.
Great view at sunset
Amazing food with wonderful views of the beach and the ocean.
Finally made it to Marine Room for my husband's Birthday. The food was good, cooked well. Cocktails weren't anything to write home about but my husband loved his Sea and Smoke cocktail. The service was absolutely perfect. It was expensive so not a place I would go alot, but was perfect for special occasion.
We went for our 10 yr wedding anniversary. Way over priced. Food was good but not worth the $85 steak. The bread served was basically a slice of wheat bread and not even warm. Drink was strong if you like that. The ocean view sunset was amazing. The restaurant was surprisingly outdated and old looking, not swanky at all. Once and done for us.
Small potions but good.
We have dined at this lovely restaurant many times and the food was absolutely wonderful as usual. Dining right at the water's edge with a beautiful sunset remains one of the best locations in all San Diego. On this occasion the service was slow and the waitress didn't seem to be very attentive. ( Slow to take our cocktail order, slow to check if we wanted coffee after the meal, etc.) That said, I would still highly recommend this restaurant for a romantic and special occasion.
Great place to celebrate a special occasion, food and service were great
The high tide brunch is not to be missed! The food is exceptional, and the view is breathtaking, especially when the waves are splashing the windows!
We've had two meals at the Marine Room. Sadly, I find it overpriced and the waiters inattentive. Sadly because this used to be a favorite of my Mom and Dad's way back when! It does have a lovely view which is why we went the second time for the high tide breakfast. I'd go again for that just because it's so pretty. But, I don't like having to flag down waiters for cocktails and coffee even at brunch! There's valet parking available which is nice since parking can be tough down in that area.
This is a kid friendly place for sophisticated kids--well behaved ones whose parents have taught them to eat all types of foods. People bring their babies in carriers and strollers for the high-tide brunch. These are well-behaved babies.
I was there with my family for a nice Sunday brunch. Service and ambiance are excellent. Although the view was fantastic, we were VERY disappointed in the mediocre food. They had Mexican ceviche which is NOT supposed to be sweet. It lacked flavor and was not authentic. They do not have a carving station with prime rib. They have no Such Station either. They have a limited selection of seafood and desserts. The Marine Room can improve by having a better food choices such as sushi, sashimi, lobster, oysters, shrimp and crab. Why not have a Sushi Station? What about an Ice Cream Bar? Oh! and if you want mimosas or drinks, that's extra $. A much better choice is The Westgate Hotel's Sunday Brunch!!!
Excellent food and service. Celebrated my mom's 80th birthday and we all felt spoiled. The view was amazing as well.
Great place to dine took wife for 40th Anniversary. Great waiter very informative about cuisine, very friendly staff.
Impeccable service. Great food. We will be back.
Brunch at Marine Room is an excellent dining experience. Food is delicious, locally sourced ingredients.
At a relatively high tide the experience was memorable. However, you have to plan WAY
ahead! The food options at the lunch buffet were outstanding as was the service - but bring your wallet!
Wonderful food and service. Had family in from Dallas and they loved it!!
Great experience as always. Food was delicious and staff was helpful.
We had an outstanding dinner at The Marine Room. Food was very tasty and well prepared on a level of proficiency you seldom find throughout the country (we had lobster bisque, lobster tail, salmon and a shared desert plate). Service at the table was friendly, attentive and qualified. Views to the aluminated ocean are remarkable.
The only negative experience was our pre-dinner drink in the adjunct lounge: the service was poorly trained and not able to come up with reasonable suggestions: e.g. she suggested to start with an digestive before the dinner and to close the evening with an aperitive...
At the end of the day we had a wonderful evening and were happy that we did not decide to leave the place after the poor first impression in the lounge.
Very poor service. Had to ask to order wine, ask for menus, ask to order. Unbelievable
In addition to the awesome ocean view and overall lovely ambience, the cuisine is exceptional! Our waiter treated us like royalty after he learned it was our 53rd wedding anniversary. We have had the opportunity to dine at the Marine Room several times and have never been disappointed. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Ordered the lobster tail. It was expensive, overcooked, dry and not at all good tasting.
The beautiful view covers many shortcomings, I guess.
This is our third visit to this restaurant with two small children. The food was superb and the waiter each time has treated the children well, altering the menu slightly for them.
We felt very comfortable qand welcomes here.
We will be back
A long-time La jolla staple. Unsurpassed view. Pricey. Attentive service. Bread was served cold, a single slice placed on a plate for each diner. I expect warm bread. I had scallops. Nicely cooked but only 3 on the plate. Other diners enjoyed their sea bass. Small portions. Wine was very good. Our purpose was to go to a special place and our British friends were highly impressed.
wine list is pretth good but very pricey, regular bottle price is priced 3x.
We ordered the surf and turf and it was quite possibly the best meal I’ve ever had (and most expensive). Totally worth it! And our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and was classically trained.
