We had a lovely experience! Our friend does not like to sit by the window so we had a little confusion upon arrival since we prefer to be seated in the booths but they were able to switch our table to a booth and received excellent service and delicious food.
The food was some of the worst I have been served ever. It was presented beautifully but all the food but the main seafood dish had an odd taste which really wasn’t even palatable. The prices were extremely high and I expected to get an awesome meal. Also we were seated in a back corner by the servers station and we had asked for special seating since we were celebrating a couple special occasions. Given what we paid for the meal it was one of the worst restaurant experiences we have had.
It had been a few years since I dined at The Marine Room and it was everything I remembered and more. The smoked duck appetizer and elk medallions were amazing. The entire staff was very attentive without hovering and our server Jimmy made the entire experience memorable. We were celebrating a couple of birthdays and an Anniversary, but I won't wait for a special occasion to return...
Disappointing. Service was not good. Server was not warm, nor was he efficient. Timing was off all night. We were seated and waited 10min for the server to come to take a drink order.
Caesar salad for 2 made table side was excellent.
We were a table of 4, when dinner was brought out, only 2 meals were served and we waited a good 5 minutes before the other two were delivered. The runner brought them out and left them on the tray, where they sat for another minute before our server realized they were there. Not the way to serve in fine dining.
Presentation was impressive, however the food itself wasn’t amazing.
The whole meal was very disappointing.
Love the food, history, ambience and view! This restaurant has it all, and it’s the 1st time my husband and I got to visit for our anniversary. Everything was fantastic from our cocktails, crab cake appetizer and entrees (lamb and Ahi).. all prepared perfectly! Delicious!
The wine list was great too!
We will be coming back more often. Worth the whole dining experience.
Great tastes & presentation. Attentive service. A must for special occasion.
My top 3 best places. The waves hitting the windows with the lights hitting the waves was amazing.
This was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had! We made reservations for the High tide dinner and the service and quality complimented nature's show beautifully! Our server was fabulous and the food was outstanding and perfectly cooked. We were celebrating a few occasions and were surprised with two fantastic tortes for the table. We will definitely return and recommend this fine establishment.
Spendy but location is amazing especially during high tide!! Food was delicious.
Unique dining experience. The view of the beach is amazing and dining during the monthly high tide is like few dinner experiences. Food is top shelf.
A thank you dinner for our contractor
Wonderful ambiance of high tide water view; great service; delicious meals!
Overall it was ok. Food was excellent, but service was a little slow. It was also our anniversary, which was noted in our reservation upon booking and it wasn’t mentioned once while we were there.
Positives: view is to die for. Enough said. Food was outstanding. Beautifully presented, creative menu and delicious. I had the lamb chops and they were superb. My wife had the branzino and said it was excellent. Negatives: very pricey. Appetizers $20+ , entrees $50+. Waiter had difficulty delivering appetizers and entrees to the four of us at the same time. $10+ for valet parking. Overall, a positive dining experience. The restaurant is mostly succeeding at what they are trying to do.
The crab cakes were absolutely incredible. The lobster had the best flavor I’ve ever had, by far. The martini was spectacular. Food all the way around was by far the best I’ve ever had. I’ve eaten some at some incredible restaurants and this blows all of them out of the water. The service was spectacular as well. The waiter was very patient, had everything memorized and explained everything very well and just friendly to talk to.
outstanding service with fine food, wine and finished with a outstanding dessert. Beautiful view of the ocean and watched the sun set. Worth the trip and money. Will come again.
You MUST ARRIVE AND CHECK IN AT LEAST 45 minutes to an hour AHEAD of your scheduled dining time! Reservations are first-come, first-served and people DO ARRIVE extremely early. We did not get a window seat, despite arriving 40 minutes before the FIRST seating of 5:30
We made reservations more than 2 months in advance for my husband's birthday and I confirmed a week ahead that the vegetarian menu was still available for the high tide dinner. I asked about getting a window seat and was told it was first-come, first-served but that, since we had a 5:30 seating (the first), it wouldn't be a problem. The food was very good, the service from Javier was perfect in every way. The hostess was extremely unpleasant and my view was blocked by a very large man seated in front of us. Dinner for two with wine was $$$. The "on the water" view is fun but, unless there's an extraordinarily high tide, it's not really worth it
Excellent service and food. Beautiful views! This was an excellent location and experience to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The food was amazing and service was exceptional. I would highly recommend this venue to everyone.
Wonderful view of the water — a few feet away from the waves. Food was excellent— perhaps the best lobster i have ever had. White table cloth elevated dining experience — this is not a casual restaurant. Good wine list and educated Waite staff.
Our waiter was excellent. He was very considerate and knew when to ask for orders and when to stay away.
Great presentation. Love the Monday night lobsters with different preparations.
Food was beautifully presented, the food delighted all of our taste buds. Will recommend and will return for another special occasion.
I admit it has been several years since I have had the pleasure of dining at the Marine Room, I did notice the dress code is more diversified now.
We had a nice window seat. Our server was a Sommelier and recommended a wonderful Pinot Noir. We had the lobster Bisque, the seafood trio to start. It was all amazing. We order rack of lamb, the Branzino, and the Seafood trio- prawn, scallop, and swordfish. We all shared and everything was so wonderful!! They even serve Moto coffee- which we also raved about! We ended with the “Share the Love” dessert. Our favorites were the tart and chocolate dome. Our server Johnathan, brought chocolate salted caramels with the bill. What a nice touch! My husband is a chocoholic- and was in heaven. I wish we had ordered the Cesar Salad. We saw the host prepare it table side and it looked amazing. I’ve found my go to spot for special occasions.
This was our first visit to The Marine Room and to be honest we are somewhat underwhelmed. The food was outstanding, the menu was very creative and the view of the beach and ocean were wonderful. Entering the restaurant it was unclear where we should check in. We finally went down a flight of stairs and when we did there was a hostess station but no one was there, so we stood there awkwardly while several servers walked past us without saying anything. We were finally seated at a very nice table. While the food was excellent we found the service a bit lacking. More than once our server said something like, "Just let me put this down and I'll come back and take your order," after which he disappeared for many long minutes. The final problem was when we left. We had left our car with the valet since there is really very little alternative. The restaurant was very busy on a Sunday afternoon of a holiday weekend, but there was only one valet. He was doing the best he could; running back and forth. But we still waited a long time for our car. It seemed ridiculous that such a high-end and pricey restaurant had a single valet at such a busy time. The Marine Room is very nice but given the high cost we were disappointed by these aspects of our experience.
We were vacationing inLaJolla for Labor Day weekend and having dinner at The Marine Room was absolutely the best way to end our trip! The food was fabulous and unique! It was a very special treat!!
As always, this place was incredible. My girlfriend and I went there for our anniversary and it was just as good as when we were last here. The food was great and cooked to perfection. The view is incredible and the service is always top-notch! If you’re in the San Diego area and a need a great place to dine, look no further!
The Marine Room is a beautiful restaurant both inside and out. The beach front view is fantastic and the food is superb. We had a crowd there for a birthday party and still all the food came out together and was prepared exceptionally. I’ll be back.
Absolutely amazing sunset view. I can not describe how beautiful this place was. The ambiance the food and the service were exceptional. I highly recommend this place for a special occasion or a romantic sunset dinner with your loved one. I had the surf and turf which was delicious. Thank you all for the service and amazing food
A very fine meal with very good service and
a perfect place to celebrate our 50th anniversary.
The desert plate at the end of meal was fabulous.
We celebrated our Wedding Anniversary. My wife said the food and view was so awesome she can not understand why anyone would go anywhere else. The portions were surprisingly large and the Chef’s should be kissed on both cheeks!! Wonderful dinner!
Not one negative regarding our experience here .
Stupendous from start to finish- exquisite fare.
Each of our group ordered a different entree- oohs and ahhhs emanated from our table!
The view of the sun setting on the water just completed the level of perfection. Thank you!
Can not beat the food but the view is amazing and worth the expense to eat at this memorable location
My husband and I visited the Marine Room to celebrate our anniversary. Despite indicating that it was our anniversary when making the reservation and my husband notifying the host upon arrival, the hostess was rude to us and neither the host nor waitress mentioned the special occasion. The service was incredibly slow, often leaving us waiting when the waitress was coming back to take our order, refill drinks, etc. The waitress was rude when we asked a simple question about the menu and it was clear that she did not care about our dining experience. The food portions were very small and the fish was dry, which was disappointing for a restaurant whose name indicates that seafood would be their focus. The quality of the service and the food was certainly not indicative of the prices. While the restaurant has a fantastic view, this is not a place we would choose to visit again or recommend to anyone we know. If we would are looking for fine dining in San Diego, we would certainly take our business elsewhere to Mister A's, Roy's, Ruth's Chris, etc.
They made my husbands birthday/ his deployment homecoming very special. The food was amazing!
All in all, great place! Expensive, yes! Worth it, yes!
Very nice experience and beautiful spot.
It was a special birthday - 82 - as they all are at this age, and I had asked for an oceanfront table to enjoy the high tide. Instead we were seated at a second tier table, behind the "fence". It became a very ordinary, noisy dinner in terms of elegance with a view of the ocean, but not the tide itself. Ten minutes after we were seated, an oceanfront table opened, and a young couple were escorted to it - they had a drink, saw the crest of the high tide, and left.
The food and service were wonderful, as always, But it was not special in the way we had hoped. SO, suggestion : DO NOT CELEBRATE SPECIAL OCCASIONS ON SATURDAYS; IT LOOKS SUSPICIOUSLY LIKE BANQUET NIGHT AT THE ELKS' CLUBHOUSE, with multiple long tables.
We were celebrating our 15th anniversary and this was our first time at the Marine Room and it was outstanding in every way. Jimmy was our waiter and he was very attentive to our every need. We will definitely return!!!!!
Service a little slow and did not follow up much. Chef had way too much spice layered on the sword fish and shrimp was over done. Waiter misunderstood that we wanted the rest to go and just took it away. We still like the place for special occasions.
