We really enjoyed the pianist playing and selection of music that added to the overall ambiance.
The Majestic does it right. Very good food and excellent service. The old fashion is pretty solid.
Lovely historic building with live piano. Excellent food and service.
We used to go here all of the time when I was younger. Always had fond memories. We decided to take our daughters for a birthday celebration It was fantastic. Our waitress answered alot of questions. Shared the history of the building which was fascinating.
All of our food was spot on. Steaks were cooked perfectly as ordered. Cocktails were amazing. Im shocked that locals do not talk about this place more. The Jazz Club on the bottom floor was a great place for our dessert. Wonderful atmosphere!!
This was our first visit to Kansas City. Being in KC, we knew we needed to try a Kansas City steak. But since we were on vacation, we didn’t bring fancy clothes. The Majestic doesn’t have a strict dress code and while some people were dressed up, others were not and we felt welcomed and comfortable. We were seated in the speakeasy, which is full of history. And there was a live piano player! This type of ambiance is so rare today. They have a great cocktail menu and the food was delicious. Especially the lobster Mac and Cheese. The service was top notch - thanks Vinnie! The food was well paced, even with 4 courses. The perfect final touch - there are matchbooks by the front door. :)
The waiter was great but customer service as a whole and from the manager on duty was very poor. Tried to order a burger for a teenager and was told we couldn’t order from the table that we could be reseated 15 yards over in the lounge (restaurant is an open format with no walls) and if they wanted a sandwich and there was no way they would bring one to our table, while our total tab was over $300. Don’t go if you have a picky eater if they are older than the age of 6 (kids menu age). Steak was under cooked and then under cooked again a second time. Definitely not a place that is a must visit!
There is a reason we continually return to the Majestic to celebrate special occasions. The food, as always, is exceptional as is the ambiance. Our server (last name Barbie) was the epitome of charm, courtesy and professionalism
My family and I found this experience quite traumatizing due to the fact that my mother in law help save a intoxicated man life and after he was revived he stayed around our table and made our experience very uncomfortable. Also, due to my mother in law helping save the man’s life she didn’t get accommodated for her brave act nor did we get accommodated for our uncomfortable experience.
Service was excellent and personable, the food has changed a little because the portions used to be enormous and now the are right-sized, the live jazz is always good plus a sax dropped by and was fantastic. Will definitely be back.
Extremely overpriced for the quality of food. Sorry to have spent that much money on average food.
The French SauvBl and house made Ceasar Salad were the best! My 'catch du jour' Mahi-mahi was a little dry and 'luke cool' when it arrived. Wife's medium rare rib eye was bloody on arrival; trip back to kitchen made it as ordered and tasty; sides were good. Overall value not as expected for the prices. Service was excellent; waiter obviously impatient with kitchen it took so long to get both plates out. We'll try again in 6 months as our previous dinners here (all 'preCovid') were excellent.
Fabulous steaks and sides. Speciality cocktails were delicious. Service was great! Our server was so knowledgeable about the history of the building. Highly recommend
Food was very good and service was even better. Always is a good experience. Seems we were seated downstairs which became more of a couples retreat and we were talking business. I will be sure to have our group seated on the main floor next time and miss the evil looks from the other patrons. Always good just be ready for that bill!!
We chose the Majestic for the atmosphere, food, and jazz music. When we made our reservation, no where did it say you needed to request the down stairs jazz bar. So we arrived, the hosted seated us upstairs. When the server came, we asked when the jazz music would start. That's when we learned it was downstairs. She asked if we wanted to move seats. We did. She came back and told us to grab our menus and go the hostess stand. Before we could get up the hostess came and snatched up the menus and trotted downstairs...no word spoken. She ran into the Mgr on the stairs. He was complaining about moving tables etc. They abruptly stopped when they saw us. We thanked her for moving us and her response was "It's fine". We both ordered a salad, filet mignon, baked potato. He had iced tea, I had water. No bread served with salads. Filet was bland, and tough. Potato was lukewarm, not split open. I had to ask for ice for my water. No refills offered. Jazz music started as we were finishing dinner. Bill was $150. If you're looking for top notch service and the best steak and sides you'll ever eat, do not go to the majestic. Total let down. Call the 801 Chophouse. We were there the night before. Best food I've eaten ever! Superb service. 10 gold stars all around at 801. The Majestic staff should go there to learn how its done.
Billed as the oldest steakhouse in KC. The chief and I had dinner there because of this and the jazz music.
We had one piano player and I ordered a ribeye Pittsburgh rare. Came out not charred and swimming in a butter sauce. The chief had a small strip. Nothing special. Seems like they are resting on laurels. Probably better places for steak in KC.
Excellent dining experience!
Excellent food. The pianist was excellent and really made our evening perfect after a excellent meal
Wanted to eat at a nice steakhouse to end our trip. The ambiance was nice, but that was about it. We ordered the ribeye and it was terrible. I thought Kansas City was known for its beef. We were so disappointed! I paid $250 for two people and it was awful!
Always one of my absolute FAVORITES!!! If I have one place to have a steak in Kc this is going to be my pick 10x out of 10.
First time there and everything was great!drinks, appetizer and steak! Yum ,just think our table was to small!
I will definitely be going back!
One of my favorite restaurants in KC! Amazing food, service, and love the music.
We had an excellent birthday dinner for my wife. Steaks cooked to perfection, piano jazz, great waiter, place has a great vibe. Pricey but worth it on special occasions.
The space is beautiful. Our server was very accommodating and took the time to provide detailed answers to our questions.
The waitress was working hard and took good care of us. Don’t recall her name but a petite blond.
Wonderful meal. Excellent service! A gem of a restaurant! Even during this strange time if COVID each employee made us feel welcomed and superior service! Will definitely be back again and again. A personal thank you to all the employees on their manners and exemplary service. Thank you
Never disappoints. Food, service and atmosphere always make for a memorable evening. Listening to Bram Wijnands on the piano is the icing on the cake.
Andrew was amazing! Joe is incredible! And the bar tender Shawn is a great! Great staff great food great music!
Delicious steak and drinks! The piano was so fun. We love the Majestic!
We had such a great time at the Majestic. The food was delicious although quite expensive. Our server, Barbie, was excellent and so knowledgeable. I look forward to going back!
Our waiter, Steven was absolutely incredible. We also got to chat with Vinny and other members of the wait staff and they were all simply lovely!
Not to mention the food which was the best steak that either of us had ever had!
I would recommend everyone to come here. Thank you for such a wonderful evening!!
We celebrated our anniversary with a couple of the finest steaks we've ever had. The manager and wait staff were friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. Fun to hear facts about the restaurant's longevity and the two bars, both built in the late 1800s. Great place for special occasions.
The Majestic remains the foremost restaurant in Kansas City, MO for an intimate gathering and meal with friends and family. The menu is limited as compared to some restaurants but it is exquisitely executed. Service is second to NONE - ask for "Barbie," you will be very well taken care of.
Wonderful place to hear live jazz music - a Kansas City institution.
Very attentive staff and excellent food.
Great service awesome food
As always the Majestic is a crowd-pleaser. If you want a quiet evening, make sure to request the upstairs dining room. Steaks are always great as are the bar services and the food.
We were served in an intimate lower-level dining room at the Majestic, and our dinner was delicious. The prime rib was excellent, as were the side dishes. A jazz pianist played throughout the meal, taking only one break, and he was a master of his craft. I would highly recommend the Majestic to anyone looking for an intimate, delicious meal.
Everything was wonderful, especially the pianist, Matt Villinger.
The Majestic is a Kansas City treasure. There are few fine dining options in the US that remind me of dining in Europe, with professional staff, real food, nothing packaged is served here, linen, silver, full bar, live piano and brass. Why would you celebrate an evening out at a chain restaurant with gems like the Majestic.
