Just lovely getting there via the gondola. The view was amazing, our welcome warm and Sergio was an outstanding server. Our salade was very good and while the rib eye steak was a bit fatty, the trout was perfectly prepared. It was nice that I was able to switch the rice for Parmesan polenta which I preferred. I was a bit surprised that the only dessert was two different cheesecakes, raspberry or blueberry.
Beautiful view and awesome customer serivice. Purposed to my girlfriend here and the staff was very helpful. Would recommend to anyone that wants a special experience with a loved one. Not everyday you get be on top of a mountain eating amazing food.
Great place for a date night after skiing. The only thing that would be better blankets in the gondola on the way up and down.
Our dinner date was for Valentine's day. The staff was very, very courteous, knowledgeable and helpful. Our meal came out in a very timely fashion, was prepared excellently and tasted fabulous.
I could not have been happier with our entire evening.
Food was very high quality and perfectly prepared!
I can't rate this as anything other than neutral, since weather required that the restaurant shut down. Dinners need to know that this is a possibility and have contingency plans.
The reservation confirmation came with a google map link to the address, wrong address (admin building). Winter Park is a big complex with poor signing so we called the restaurant and the guy told us to go to Winter Park Covered parking and then walk through the Village to the Zephyr Express Gondola. Lots of signs for parking lots, not parking garage; finally found it. No signs for Zephyr Express, finally found it in 18 degrees and wind. First guest to arrive and waitress tried to push us through. We made her back off as we enjoyed a 2.5 hour dinner. Food not bad, you are paying for the atmosphere which is really nice. All personnel were pleasant except for poor direction on the phone.
Awesome experience. Food, service, and ambiance were exceptional. A must do when in Winter Park
This is our fourth time to enjoy an evening meal at Sunspot! We love and plan to continue a meal there every year we are in Winter Park! It is an outstanding experience!
So my friends and I went here for my birthday. It was absolutely stunning. The ride up was romantic. The lodge itself was beautiful, the staff was friendly and willing to help, and the menu was decent. We got the fondue. 10/10 would recommend. Thanks for making my special day even better.
Was told we would have a window table. We did not. Lots of glare off the windows so this may not have been an issue. Service itself was good. Minor issues but nothing awful. Food was average. I would recommend this as a place to try once to say you did it as the views if you can see them are fantastic but at $300+ for a party of 4 it isn't what I would expect and I would not go there again.
The food was good until we got to dessert and the cheesecake was frozen in the middle. The service was mediocre and definitely not what I'd expect at this price level. The ambiance and entrées are great but not enough to recommend to others.
Outstanding Food!!! Was at night and was amazing!
This night was by far our favorite! Loved the private gondola ride to the top! Our server Lee was amazing!
Beautiful location, but the food was less than mediocre. Not worth the price.
We eat here on our annual ski vacation to Colorado, and it never fails to be great. Wonderful atmosphere, great service, and tasty food.
Great spot - but the food does not match the incredible setting.
Well worth the time to go. The gondola ride to and from was awesome. We loved the food too.
Absolutely incredible food, service, and ambiance. You can't beat the location - right off a gondola ride to the top of a mountain. The food was amazing, and we had a fabulous waiter that took great care of us. They even put flowers and handmade decorations out on the table since it was our anniversary, which was just a great extra touch that made it even more special.
Wonderful ambiance and great food in the evening. When we were there, it was already dark but I can imagine the sunset would be specutacular ...will try another tune!
Lovely meal to celebrate my husbands birthday. food was very good. Loved the trip up in the condola.
The Lodge at Sunspot has been a favorite dining location for years. The location is glorious, the food is great and if you choose to dine prior to or post normal hours, the volume in the dining room is enjoyable. The only thing that we would prefer, is that the volume (patrons) was not as loud at all dining times.
Excellent dinner there with my wife after a day of skiing. We celebrated 30 years since we met skiing in CO. Our waiter Josh did an excellent job too. The ambiance and views are wonderful at Sunspot.
Buffalo Osso Buco and Delmonica Steak entrees were outstanding.
Cold Lobster Bisque and Entree; two hour wait from order to meal; server was inexperienced and didn't offer bread, refill of drinks, or coffee with dessert. Had been here before and it was a great experience and well worth it. This was overpriced and lousy. Would not go back; very disappointed in this going downhill so far.
Service was amazing. Made it worth the night. A bit pricey but not disappointed in the food at all. OVERALL, a great experience.
The staff was amazing and the food was excellent. I would recommend this for a nice evening out. 5 STARS!
We took our friends from Florida and they loved the experience. The 5 course meal was very good and the choices for the main course was impressive. It is quite a bit to eat and we ended up taking our deserts home! I would recommend for anyone to try this dining experience! The restaurant was not full and we were a bit taken back when we arrived at the lift 30 min early so we could have drinks before dinner, and the snarky women who checks you in, told us there was not room at the bar and to go over to Docs! We did board the lift and the bar was not crowded and we were able to get our table right away!
Rode a moonlit gondola to the top of the mountain to get to the restaurant..... WOW! How amazing it was when entered! Giant fireplace greeted us as well as a friendly and efficient staff! Five course meals were excellent, with unique choices, such as elk and buffalo.... Vegetables- just right (loved the golden beets). Deserts just too delicious! Fantastic evening for entire family.....
Gondola ride and lodge atmosphere are delightful. Food is good in the five-course dinner--not amazing but that's what I expected from this spot, which is mainly about the mountain top experience. Service was painfully slow.
The food is terrible... agree with all reviews I read, and yet we went anyway, for the fun & experience of the night-time lift ride. I should mention the gondola at Winter Park isn't fancy like at Vail or Telluride, where I've done mountain-top dining. It's small and super super cold! The waitstaff was awful... typical 21 year old resort staff, unfamiliar with high end food or alcohol. We just laughed about how bad it was, but my date and the cold gondola was fun, so it was still a good evening.
We have a vacation home at Winter Park and decided to experience dinner at Sunspot. To all we advise don't waste your money. They try to pass this off as fine dining but at best it has s 1/2 step above the lunchtime cafeteria next door. For 3 with drinks etc it was $350. Spend $100 at Dino's in town and you will get 10x the food and 10x the service. If it was light out, the view and gondola ride might count for something but in the dark there is nothing to see. SKIP THIS.
Christmas dinner on the mountain for $100 per person plus drinks. It was not the price, it was the crap service and disappointing food. We understood it was Christmas and a buffett, but come on, it was horrible. Never again!
Perhaps it was because it was Christmas Day. Perhaps it is because it's just over rated. The food portions were large, but the quality of the food was mediocre. Service was fair. We've seen better at other Winter ski resorts. Better to eat at one of the many restaurants in town.
The Lodge was a great, if touristy, option for a family skiing at Winter Park. We rode the gondola on Christmas Day, and had a great meal for three. The food and service were average for a restaurant that's NOT 11,000 feet above sea level and accessible only by gondola and snow cat. If you take the whole experience into account, it's a once in a lifetime trip and well worth the cost. Where else can you listen to David Bowie on a dark gondola ride, walk across a wind whipped snow covered mountain, and eat a fine prime rib while drinking local IPA?
We had a great time dining at the Lodge at Sunspot for the Christmas dinner buffet. The gondola ride up to the restaurant was pretty cold so I'd recommend dressing warm. It was super windy the night we went up for dinner but we were thankful to have dressed for the weather. The restaurant boasts to be "mountain casual" and jeans & a sweater were perfectly acceptable. The Christmas dinner buffet was absolutely delicious. My only "complaint" would be that there weren't enough side options. I only wish there was a few more options to go along with the turkey and prime rib (which was absolutely amazing, by the way). The desserts were awesome and some of them super rich but divine.
I'd absolutely recommend eating here on Christmas. My mom was visiting from out of state and she completely fell in love with Colorado during this dinner. The views on the gondola ride are amazing, particularly at night, and we didn't have any concerns with the service. Our server was so sweet and attentive, and I felt the need to say this specifically because of some other reviews complaining about the service. Everyone from the servers to the gondola operators to the meat carvers were all super nice and accommodating, especially for working on a holiday! We'd absolutely be back next year!
We were there Christmas Eve and they were serving an expensive buffet dinner for which the cost didn't match up with what they were serving-dry turkey, because the "chef" carved what he had well in advance of serving it instead of cutting to order, same with the prime rib but luckily it was rare and was revived with au jus, side dishes were room temp to cold. It was really a lackluster dinner and I wouldn't do the buffet again. Maybe plated dinners are better there.
The venue is top notch and the food was good. We did the buffet. It was over crowded and noisy. I would say that for the price it was overvalued by 50%. They added a gratuity to the bill even though it was buffet style which seems a bit much to me.
Dinner was good and exceeded expectations. Food was tasty and service was just right
We have done Thanksgiving dinner here several times. The food is excellent, really good. This past visit was the first time we have had poor service. Since this is a buffet, I find not excuse for not being attended to timely.
