I had the crème brûlée for dessert and my spouse had bread pudding which was in a unique serving bowl. We both had delicious salads and the yummy bread.

As long-time regulars of Little Village Downtown, it pains us to write this. This restaurant has been a go-to spot for us—reliably good food, an inviting atmosphere, and somewhere we proudly brought out-of-town guests on their first night in Baton Rouge. Unfortunately, the recent changes they’ve made are not just disappointing—they’re baffling, tone-deaf, and frankly insulting to loyal customers. To begin, the menu has undergone a total overhaul. While change is inevitable, this one feels poorly thought out. The new layout is hard to navigate, descriptions of dishes have been completely removed (so you’re forced to guess or pepper your server with questions), and the once-elegant presentation has been replaced by low-quality menus that cheapen the dining experience. It no longer feels like an upscale restaurant—despite the fact that the prices suggest otherwise. And speaking of prices: the increases are staggering. A full loaf of garlic bread is now $16. Want a small side of marinara sauce with that? Add another $4.50. Yes, you read that right—over $20 for bread and sauce. These are items that are not expensive to make, and this pricing feels like price gouging, plain and simple. When we expressed our concern to management, we were met with defensiveness and a dismissive explanation that it’s "market price." With all due respect, that’s nonsense. It’s bread and tomato sauce, not truffle risotto. Even more disappointing is the removal of favorite dishes from the menu—long-time staples that many of us came specifically to enjoy. Menus evolve, yes, but this change felt like a wholesale erasure of what made Little Village special. We approached management, hoping to offer constructive feedback, but were met with what felt like defensive energy—as if they were anticipating complaints and ready for a fight. That tells us everything we need to know about how these changes are being received by others.

Ordered veal piccata. Got chicken. My wife had finished by the time I got the meal I ordered. When server was clearing the table, part of my wife’s salad fell on my slacks. I was raised at the original Village. No comperison. Just a faded memory of a much better restaurant.

Brought my BFF to birthday dinner here by recommendation of another friend. Was extremely disappointed with this dining experience. Got the highly recommended Bread in half size which was pretty good. Ordered Beef Arancini as appetizer and it ended up being a Large Meatball with tomato sauce. (No Arborio rice & diced seasonings just a few capers spotted in the ground meat) Ordered the Fish Almandine @ $28 only to be informed it would be tilapia (Cheapest fish you can buy) and if I wanted Redfish it would be additional cost so, I agreed to the preferred redfish. Arrived and fish tasted of being fried in oil that was overused and the fish was dark brown finish to support what it tasted like. Served on a bed of bland steamed broccoli which appears to have been a frozen product. The BFF suddenly received a Birthday chocolate mousse but other guest had never been offered a dessert menu so had nothing until asking which once other desert came birthday person had finished. Basically the only food item that was good was the bread. As for the Fish the additional amount was $10 more!!!! Tipped waitress 20% as she had nothing to do with the food quality even though she did poorly with the dessert option. Respectfully will not be returning to this establishment nor recommending it to anyone. - Truly sad as this restaurant has been around for some years and could be as good as it once was.

The steak special (butterflied with seafood stuffing) was very impressive. The eggplant napoleon was good as well. Of course, order the bread! I also loved the crème brûlée dessert. I’ve been to The Little Village several times and it’s always great! My parents really enjoyed their first time there as they live in a small town with no great restaurants.. this was definitely a treat!

Bar service on this night was extremely slow. Order dinks and bread. Bread was delivered promptly but was hard and crispy which is not usual. Should have asked for another. Waiter took order. Still no drinks. Food was delivered at the same time as the drinks. Maybe a second bartender could solve this. New menu has no description of the items being ordered. Could spend a half hour going over the menu with the waiter.

Restaurant was dead. 30 mins to see a waitress, 1 1/2 hrs to get food, “striped bass” taste like it was sitting on the dock in China for three weeks, they cooked my wife’s steak wrong TWICE, waitress was wrong about vegetable of the day…..bread was good! Horrible experience. We will NOT go back!

This was a very disappointing experience. I made this reservation at least six weeks in advance of our graduation celebration We were seated in the bar at a high top table.. My husband spoke with the maitre d He was told that nothing could be done and we could not be moved There’s no excuse for this. There was a table available inside the dining room where our waitress could have served us not be moved. No other people were seated in the bar area. Our waitress was excellent, but the maitre d was unresponsive to our request We should not have been I’m a white tablecloth restaurant and been seated I’m the bar. Our reservation was made far in advance. There is no excuse why this happened.
