I think this Embassy Suites restaurant has settled on being adequate. We’ve been a few times and the first couple times they were trying hard and when they screwed up the manager was apologetic and comp’ed some of the bill. Easter Sunday we went for brunch and whereas the food could have been good and was from quality ingredients and prepared well, the chafing dishes were not monitored by staff leaving the food old, barely warm, and not appetizing. I mentioned this in passing to the manager when I got up for a run to the dessert bar and he thanked me for the comment. When checking out there was no recognition on the hefty bill and on the way out the same manager blindly smiled at me and the family and asked “how was our brunch”. I said ‘very nice” thank you and left for the last time...
We had a terrible experience with the J Bar. Service was terrible, she was nice but rarely saw us and was delayed with everything. Food was small, flavorless.
I was drawn to the Jbar because of the menu especially the steak selection. I had the Gorgonzola steak and my wife had the strip. The cheese plate and the Deviled eggs were good as appetizers. But, the steaks came and all I can say is phenomenal! The presentation and the freshness of the ingredients. Awesome. My wife had the strip it was great she loved it. Anywhere else each steaks we had would have been $10.00 to $15.00 more each. I will return. Best steak in Lenexa's new growing corridor area off 435 & 95th street. I had been to Grand Street cafe and Ignite twice each in the Month of February for their steaks. Both were great. But, JBar has the steak deal in that area down. I will definitely come back before the place really gets popular and Jack's their prices up.
my wife and I had a very late lunch here during work week. Great food, and not busy at all. Service was first rate.
Last two visits had very poor service which is unfortunate because it is a nice place with good food.
Food was OK. place was dead. No customers....really odd. bartender was good.
A surprising find for my mom and me today! Who knew the Olathe Convention Center had such a cool place for drinks and eats! You need to advertise this place more.
Great food and love the atmosphere!
We enjoyed a nice family get together. Food was great.
There was a little confusion when we first arrived. It was New Years Eve, they were busy. Soon the confusion disappeared. The service was good, timely. The food was very tasty and I would consider reasonably priced. Unique entrees. My wife and I agree we will return to try some of the other items on the menu.
Cocktails were outstanding and our waiter as well. My strip sirloin was OK, but not the quality I expected from the J-Bar - it was a little tough and looked more like a cut of steak you would find at a chain bar & grill. But it was also only $23 so perhaps my expectations for a hand cut steak were too high, but nonetheless, I'll not order a strip steak their again. My wife had the steak tacos and they were delicious.
It was under staffed, took 30 min to get water and never got a menu
Great food and service!
It was an average experience. The food was good but not great. The servers were super friendly. It was a nice quiet place to grab a bite.
This has been popping up on my searches a lot lately and thought I would give it a try. The food was good. This is a hotel restaurant but they did a good job with solid offerings and nice service.
We made a meal of several different appetizers.
Never write a perfect review, but this comes about as close to that as can be without sounding fake. My wife and I enjoyed our visit for lunch on our anniversary and we will be coming back frequently year after year.
Great service, great food, nice place for a date and a visually appealing bar
Casey was our server and he was incredible! Super friendly, helpful with food and drink recommendations. He was very attentive and speedy with service. The food was excellent. We both had steaks that were juicy and done correctly. Drinks were excellent too. This is a restaurant inside the hotel and convention center but it never felt like it.
It was clear that they were understaffed. The food was mediocre, and the atmosphere was cold and unwelcoming. We won’t be planning on going back.
Lovely place, second visit, wanted to give it another try. Good waiter, very personable. Food was disappointing at best. Entrée salad was listed as green salad, instead iceberg lettuce, many brown unappetizing chunks, no flavor at all. Tortilla soup saved the meal, very good. Date ordered the special, again dinner salad was disappointing, fish was good, not great. We asked about dinner rolls, $5 for four very plain, rolls....really? I ordered the chicken originally, but was told it hasn't been available for 4 months, still on the menu!
We might try this place again for happy hour, but never for dinner. Really too bad, great ambiance and staff, chef needs improvement.
The service was horrible.
Great everything except for the meal, not worth the $$
Service was horrible and music was distorted I will not go back here
The atmosphere was great - we sat on the outside terrace. The food was okay but needed more seasoning (avocado eggroll). Margarita Flat was lacking in toppings and was too thin and crispy for my taste; not much to it for the price. However, the Calamari fries were very good. The drinks were strong, but just so-so tasting. I feel the prices are far too high for the quality of food. The service was not good, but I think we had a new server.
Bad service, granted it was obvious they were short staffed. Very understanding of this however our server continued to forget to bring our drinks and completely forgot and lost our food order. Waited over an hour to find this out after we inquired about the whereabouts of our meal. Was very apologetic and polite about it and mentioned the manager would do something to make it right. Said manager possibly delivered our food to our table?? He never mentioned his name and/or position but asked hesitantly if 'all was good' which was pretty obvious he was fishing to see if we would be asking for a discount. At the time we said yes because we were starving and thrilled to have food in front of us. No discount was given and even though we probably could have demanded this, it was not worth the wait or hassle by this point. Our occasion for being there was reuniting with old friends and the several mishaps leading up to this was already making the event less enjoyable therefore we decided to cut our loss and pay full price just to get out of there. Will say I've been here previous to this visit and everything including service was great then.
Unfortunate experience. Patio view is awesome! But, stood by a dirty table almost 10 minutes while manager walked by me several times as did waiters. I finally took dirty dishes to bar. Bartender handed me a towel to wipe our own table off.
Band was so loud everyone starting moving to back of patio. We were at one of the farthest tables and strained to hear our friends. The band said from the stage they noticed the largest applause was when they said they were taking a break!
Waiter never brought our 2nd round of drinks. Friend ordered old fashion and got a beer. Never brought one of the salads, not even after reminding him. My steak was "blue rare"... suppose to be medium rare. Re-fired same steak and came back well done and mealy.
Manager did take steak off bill (I didn't even eat 2 bites) He also bought desserts for us. (which were very good)
The view was the best part to share with friends.
Really enjoyed the roof top bar. Apps were good, and the bourbon mules were outstanding. Service was quick and attentive. The food came out quick, hot and tasty. The ambiance was top notch, weather was great and the live music was nice. Will go again soon.
Food was fantastic! The burgers were perfect and the cheesesteak egg rolls were especially delicious. The wait staff very pleasant. However, the host either thought he was too good for us or hates his job.
Hostess took about 10 min to come to her station. Had a reservation for dining room but wanted to sit on roof. She sent us up saying there were tables there. There were not. First come first serve system for tables made it frustrating being there for dinner. But waiter was very courteous, music was great and a beautiful night. Food is good.
We had a delightful dinner with excellent food! Added to that was the exquisite service we received from Chrystal. She was friendly and efficient. She was attentive yet not hovering. We will definitely go back again.
We really never ate anything. Ordered an appetizer and drinks. Got out drinks but after 45 minutes of waiting for appetizers with server checking on us once and band loud and off key we decided to leave. Manager did comp us our beverages.
It was a mediocre experience overall.
Everything was great except for they didn't have the item on the menu that I wanted. I had to order something else. Also, the Creme Brûlée was mediocre.
We found 4 bristles from a basting brush in our appetizer. The manager never came over and apologized (a pretty common protocol when something like that happens) - although they did comp the app, which we immediately stopped eating when we found these bristles.
Meal still cost about $95, which included 2 glasses of wine (first glass was light on the portion).
Overall pretty disappointed in the food and service. We won't go back there to eat.
Add more food selection.
The waiter had to have been the worst waiter I've ever had. It's like he didn't care that we were there. 3 young women came in about 15 minutes after us and got their drinks before my wife got hers!!!
After a flick at the AMC 28, we stumbled onto this hotel bar/restaurant that offers surprisingly flavorful food, late night happy hour options, and late-ish hours.
Service could DEFINITELY use some polish, but just enjoy the beautiful space, (occasional) live music, and quality food... you'll be back. I know we will.
This was the worst experience I have had in a long time at an expensive restaurant. The service was horrible and the food was even worse. We waited a long time for everything. And when we finally got the drinks and food, it was horrible. I had the chicken/avocado sandwich and it came out burnt and tough and without any avocado. The strip steak ordered by my daughter was not edible and certainly nothing we had was worth the price. There was no use in complaining or try to get it fixed as it would have taken forever. We ended up having to get up and find the waitress to even get our bill. We were also charged for drinks we never received. She did fix that but needless to say, it was very irritating to sit and wait for terrible service and food. We went here for Mother's day dinner and wish I hadn't. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone.
I would advise to got across the street to Johnny's, which is what we did. Although it is a bar and grill they have much better service and food.
New menu limited in numbers, but pretty creative entrees.
Low volume times can be a little risky. Our dinner salads were picked up by a newly, not our server. Turns out they were from the wrong area (the day-olds).
Corrected by the serv with apologies, but left a "bad taste".
Overall good experience.
Our first visit was Easter Brunch 2016. We came back for Mothers Day 2017. We are in the banquet space and enjoyed a wonderful buffet with live music. We'll be back!
