The Italian Barrel
Authentic food is an understatement - this is the real thing.
Fresh pasta filled with Pumpkin, sauted in butter and sage
Sliced cherry tomatoes and garlic over toasted ciabatta bread topped with shaved Parmigiano Reggiano and basil
Spaghetti and Veal Meatball
Veal meatball slow roasted in San Marzano tomatoe sauce tossed with spaghetti pasta
Great food. Would eat there again. Recommend to us by a local.
The food was amazing and the service was wonderful.
The food was phenomenal!
Great experience with family.
I was disappointed. I’ve been a fan of the barrel for years, but this was not the same restaurant I’ve known & loved. The food was mediocre, portion sizes smaller & they were out of one of their main courses. Reservations were at 7 pm but we were not seated until 7:30. The only saving grace was our dear server who tried hard to make it better. It will take a long time tor me to return, if ever.
They had the table set up special for our anniversary! We go every year to celebrate our first date night. This restaurant holds a special place in our hearts. Love it every time!
The food and service were spot on. Cool sidewalk dining set up across from the Jazz Museum.
The Osso buco was perfectly cooked and presented. The sea bass was perfectly cooked and seasoned. As always, the bruschetta set the nook for the meal.
The staff was excellent, very knowledgeable and efficient. Very pricey for a luncheon in my opinion. The food was good as usual.
ALWAYS love their Lasagna , pretty much any of there stuffed pastas! Romantic feel but can still be a fun place to go with friends
Went tonite for our anniversary. Great service and delicious entrees. Would highly recommend!
Everything was outstanding.
I actually thought the food was so-so. Everything else was first rate. We particularly had a phenomenal server.
Disappointed all the way around. And this was one of my favorite restaurants before this visit.
Everything didn’t measure up to its former performance levels.
Waitstaff was nice but slow. Food was good, not great. I’m hoping this was a one-time glitch for this spot.
Outstanding as always! Bruschetta, Cold Cut Meat Plate, Chef Sam's Fuscilli and on and on.
Everything was perfect. Don’t miss this one.
The food was amazing, I had the pumpkin ravioli and brussels sprouts. Service was great.
Outdoor seating on a Saturday early evening. Street noise was overwhelming at some points. Service was curt. I’m not sure if there are kitchen issues, but everything was disappointing, and we waited nearly 45 minutes between apps and entrees. The octopus in the insalata di mare was very tough, the veal was overcooked and lacked flavor, and the profiteroles dessert was a mess. A very expensive unimpressive meal.
I booked this reservation on the past recommendation of a client over Vincent's, Venetia's and Iren's.
Simone the Maître D was very accommodating, especially since I messed up the dates of our reservation and showed up a day early! He shoe-horned our party of three that grew to four without blinking an eye.
Our waiter, Chinno, was informative, engaging, entertaining and gave us great five star service and recommendations.
The food and wine served was outstanding!!!!!!!!!
It will not be the last time we visit our now favorite Italian restaurant in New Orleans
This is a great place for a romantic dinner or evening with friends. The food and service is outstanding. My favorite dishes include the bruschetta, mussels, porcini and truffle ravioli, gnocchi, and veal porcini.
Excellent food and service!!! Omg! It is always excellent! I did have a friend despise their pumpkin ravioli once, but, I go for the gnocchi, lasagna or filet!!! I’ve tried other dishes and enjoyed them as well...🤷🏻♂️. Great wine selection. Pricey! But I’ve never not loved my meal and service! Lost a lot of charm when it expanded a few years ago, but, it’s still cozy. Feels like a European (not tacky American) Tourist Spot while it used to feel like a European hole in the wall find of ‘the trip’. I highly recommend the bruschetta!!! Perfect! Not overdone, not heavily re-imagined, just perfect! Yum! Awaits!
This used to be my favorite Italian Restaurant in the city but the food is no longer what it once was. Having lived in Italy for 4 years, I appreciate authenticate Italian food but was disappointed and underwhelmed on my last visit. The food wasn't worth the price and was average. Pasta was overcooked and definitely not al dente, the 1 meatball was okay but not worth $16. The bread and olive oil/balsamic was probably my favorite dish of the night. I skipped dessert on my birthday based on how the dishes were tasting....On a side note, the service was great and the atmosphere is nice.
The Italian Barrel is a fave spot whenever I visit New Orleans. It had been many years since my last visit, and there it was, my favorite corner bistro with the sidewalk tables and smiling staff welcoming me. I brought my husband there (it was one stop on our honeymoon) and he loved it as much as I do. Our server was so sweet, the food wonderful, and the evening weather just perfect. There was a lot of local cruising - a loud Jeep club, lit up bicycle group, motorcycles, but it was more entertaining than anything and we took our time and just relaxed and enjoyed our experience.
We ADORE the Italian Barrel. The food is fabulous, and the service is very personal and personable. We ate outside, and the evening was lovely. The streets are now bustling, and with that, some excitement!
I cannot wait to go back!
Love the food and the staff. Wouldn't be a trip to N.O. without dinner at The Italian Barrel.
I was told it was a really great place to go. I made reservations at 7:30. I got there early which was fine I could Waite. Got seated and ordered food. Took almost 2 hours to get food. Left kid server 100.00 bucks cash. Restraint called and threatened calling cops.
Service was poor and
It’s amazing. It’s gorgeous.
Service was impeccable but the food was not
We had the bruschetta for an appetizer which was outstanding and so flavorful. It was difficult to eat the way it was prepared, however we made do because it just tasted amazing. We both had pasta dishes that were creamy and delicious. The pasta tasted fresh and the portions were just right. We also had dessert of cream puffs and tiramisu. Best we have ever tasted and we're Italian. The restaurant is off the beaten path in the French Quarter, so it wasn't noisy. It definitely did not disappoint for an Italian dinner. It was a little pricey, but well worth it.
Great food and even better staff.
The food selection is very authentic and the staff was super accommodating and meeting special requests.
We were so disappointed in the 40th birthday dinner we booked for 4 people on 8:30 Sunday night via Open Table. The host called us on our way to the restaurant to attempt to get us to cancel our dinner. We weren’t sure why until we got there and were told the kitchen was closed (at 8:30- our reservation time) and we would need to order immediately if we wanted to eat there. We did so, and promptly received all our food, appetizers, bread, entrees, and drinks at the same time all while watching the wait staff whisper about us and act irritated we were there. We were given our check and finished paying our nearly $300 bill in under 45 minutes. As you can imagine this was very disappointing. But what was completely unacceptable was that once we exited the restaurant, someone from the kitchen came outside and called us “MFers coming in here at 8:30 wanting to eat.” Then our server came outside also and yelled “y’all suck, eff y’all” at us. We were all floored and appalled that a New Orleans restaurant, of all places, would have a staff that would act this way. What a disappointment and embarrassment that must be to owner/chef Samantha who has worked to build a reputable establishment for more than a decade. Her food is amazing- i just hope at this point that the people serving it to us didn’t spit in it or worse! New Orleans is clearly suffering in the wake of the pandemic. It’s a shame the employees of this restaurant are too short-sighted to realize the future of their city and their jobs depends on people spending money there. I hope for the sake of the Italian Barrel owner(s) and the city as a whole that we are the first and last patrons to receive such treatment.
Every time I have been to Italian barrel I am blown away at the quality and authenticity of the food. Relaxing lunch with family after a family wedding. It was a perfect place for lunch.
Our meal was excellent and the service was very good.
Food always delicious, fresh, and consistent. Best meat and cheese tray in town. Great service with Courtney.
This is our favorite place in the French Quarter for Italian Food. Outstanding service and great food. The noise level is only high if you sit outside (which we did). Inside is very calm and beautiful. I would go back here every week (and sometimes we do). There was a new bar person. Our martinis were PERFECT (one gin and one vodka). Kudos to him.
I would have thought they would have done something more when celebrating a birthday than just throwing some little hearts in the table? Most places will offer a glass of wine or dessert as a complimentary item. Not here! The meal was pricey but tasty...
This was the worst Italian I have ever had. The veal was tough, the ravioli was undercooked, it took forever for the food to come out. Having spent months in Italy it isn’t fair to call this an Italian restaurant. Take my advice and go to Olive Garden instead.
This used to be one of go to spots in the Quarter. The food and service used to be impeccable but we were extremely disappointed. First, we understand having to wait outside for our table to be readied but, we were not offered water or cocktails while we waited. Second, the noise level was so loud we practically had to scream at each other, not what I wanted for a birthday dinner. Third, the gnocchi was severely under cooked, hard and cold. Lastly, our server was very personable but we rarely saw him and eveyone in the front of the house was running around like it was their fist night of service. I hate to say it, we will not go back. Sorry, Chef Sam. Long time locals.
Our experience at The Italian Barrel was excellent! They brought us immediately to our table, the service was excellent and the food was fantastic. They even brought our dessert with a candle and sang Happy Birthday to my date. Wonderful experience!
Terrific food and service
