Overall we had a great experience. My husband got the red fish, which was fabulous. We also enjoyed the crawfish beignets which were a great starter. I did not care for the gumbo as it had a very dark rue and the taste was sub par. I eat gumbo at every restaurant I go to, this one was by far not the best. Otherwise, we did enjoy the overall meal and dining experience.

We are local Warehouse District residents and went to Meril for their Saturday brunch menu, which did not disappoint; and, the Shishito Peppers starter was terrific, as well as the Bacon, Cheese & Egg flatbread and a sumptuous burger. The Old Fashioned and Paloma cocktails were perfectly crafted and the team-waiter service was friendly, attentive and professional, as always. About the restaurant
Come dine in this beautifully restored Uptown restaurant on Magazine Street and enjoy James Beard Award Winning Chef Justin Devillier's contemporary Louisiana Cuisine.

The La Petite Grocery name pays homage to the history of its home, a building that’s stood for more than a century. The original structure was built in the late 1800s and called the Central Tea, Coffee and Butter Depot. In 1908, a fire devastated the space and it was transformed into a full service grocery store. Later it was most notably a fine foods and butcher shop, VonderHaar’s Fine Foods until 1982. When La Petite Grocery opened in March of 2004, they similarly aspired to provide the neighborhood with exotic teas, locally roasted coffee, and fresh produce. By doing this, we hope to provide a dining experience that evokes nostalgia of old New Orleans. Reservations are preferred.

Best dinner we have had here in years. Our server, drinks and food all on point. Had the magazine street restaurant menu and it was amazing. In the past we have had issues with service (cocktail served in improper glass-a martini served in a small snifter glass and was charged $26 for a monkey 47 gin martini and then the manager was rude about it). This was one of the finest meals and dining experiences I have ever had! Our wait staff were excellent and had excellent recommendations on what to order as it was our first time there. We had a 3 piece jazz quartet come and serenade us which was a real treat as they played our suggested song. We tried lots of things on the menu. The standouts were the escargot, filet, and bananas foster which was prepared table side. I would highly recommend Arnaud’s Jazz Bistro for your next special occasion.

Everything looked so good we had a hard time choosing. Went with the Pasta Capri which was light and delicious, and the Crab and Shrimp Alfredo which was also fabulous. Had a great 2020 Albe Barolo which went with it perfectly. Then topped it off with the Bananas Foster bread pudding which was just the right blend of sweetness and a great cup of coffee. Excellent and friendly service all around.

We loved this restaurant so much that we went back again a few days later! The staff we encountered were all great- super friendly and accommodating for our large group! The food was delicious and the menu was a nice change from the other restaurants in New Orleans as it included both NOLA staples as well as a variety of other options. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals from start to finish. And nobody else makes a frozen milk punch like theirs!!

We came (party of 2) for the South of France Tasting Menu on my birthday. Lee and Gabriel were our serving team. We had a truly exceptional experience, they took great care of us! I am vegetarian and my wife is not, and our service was completely seamless. The timing of our courses was perfect, we never felt rushed and we never waited for anything, and we never had to ask for anything. It was a beautiful evening. Thank you August, and thank you Lee and Gabriel for providing such a wonderful experience!

About the restaurant

Bayou des Familles, a lazy waterway home to many alligators, turtles, egrets and other wildlife, takes center stage as our restaurant’s design provides its diners with a natural picture show. It’s in this unique setting where friends and family unite to experience southern Louisiana charm and culture in its finest form. It’s an experience not to be soon forgotten.

The 15-mile drive from downtown New Orleans will take you through the Jean Lafitte National Park. You’ll arrive at Restaurant des Familles and park under moss-filled century-old oak trees. The restaurant’s Acadian-style architecture provides a glimpse of bayou life that once was.

Our menu features authentic representations of Cajun and Creole favorites such as Crawfish Etouffée, Seafood & Okra Gumbo, Seafood Platters and Turtle Soup. Our signature dish, Alligator Stuffed Mushrooms with Alligator Sauce Piquant, will tempt even the most timid diner.

We look forward to your visit.

Food was very good, I had the smothered catfish and boudin balls for appetizers. I also had a French 75 that was really good. All and all everyone enjoyed the experience and food. The only thing I dislike was “no dessert on the house” I celebrated my mom birthday and she didn’t receive a dessert on the house typically most restaurants will do a dessert on the house.
