We had reservations for 8:15……we’re finally seated at 9pm.
Actually had water poured at 9:14. Drink order was taken by the MANAGER when we stopped her while walking by bc no one had even came to our table. That was at 9:27. Got drinks well after 9:30 and food order was taken at close to 9:45.
At 10:15 when the food was brought out I will say that the food was OUTSTANDING!!!!
However the service was the worst I have ever experienced in my life. They literally took two of the chairs at our table that our guest were sitting in and used them for another table.
When our guest arrived they had to stand at our table for a good 5 mins before new chairs were brought out to them.

I have been there before and had an amazing experience….however, last night was terrible.

I will
Eat there again bc the food is amazing but I may order to go!

Table was ready on our arrival. Hostess took our drink and wine order as waiter was busy. Food was delicious; just too much of it. Service was steady and waiter knowledgeable. Wine pricing reasonable.

The Italian Barrel delivered again. I had out of town guests visiting and took them to the restaurant and everyone came away thoroughly enjoying their meal. It was a combination of great service with great food. Simply put, it was a pleasure and I, without hesitation, recommend The Italian Barrel to anyone who wants a great Italian experience in the Quarter.

The food at Italian Barrel was superb as always. Service was dreadful. The wait staff was at best amateur. (He admitted that he had only been hired the week before.) We took pity on him and tried to treach him a few things... like how to open a wine bottle. I was alo disappointed that our party of three was seated at a table intended for just two. We made do and laughed and enjoyed our food.

They need help.

We have to preface this review by saying it had to be an off night. We we referred to this restaurant by someone who lives in New Orleans and were lucky enough to snag an open reservation which was outdoor seating. They were running late seating, which was fine. We were seated at the same time with another party at adjoining tables I guess to save a little time. The traffic on the street was very loud which made conversation difficult. I would opt for inside seating the next time…much cozier and better atmosphere.

Service was not at its best. There was one waiter for all of the outside tables (8-10), and he is thin for a reason—-he was running the entire time. Placing the order took at least 30 minutes. We did order drinks before and it took a little longer than a reasonable amount of time to be delivered. There is only one beer on the menu and they were out. The table next to us went to a nearby store to get beer. Two pasta dishes on the menu were also unavailable. The food also was not brought to the table timely probably 45 minutes for a cheese plate, ahi tuna salad and a crab meat salad. The table next to us ordered way ahead of us and they were served as we were leaving. I think a sous chef was helping by going table-to-table and also serving.

Anyway, the food was fine, and the servers were doing what they could—-it could have been COVID related.

Salad was good.

You commit to your reservation with a credit card after reading about the restaurant and the menu. Sadly they don’t commit to what you will find when you get there
First it is very pretty, a nice old building, brick interior. Holiday decorations for our visit.
All of that being said, no dewars, no cab sav, among most other red wines, then wait 20-30 minutes while your glass is empty, no bread, really, no bread read the appetizer menu and think about No bread with the cheeses, meats, meatball, mussels . Then no lobster ravioli, among other entrees 86, 86,86,. Nice water very apologetic but that only goes so far.

This is a mixed bag for my wife and I. The atmosphere and decor here is great. The food was great, but unfortunately, the service was horrible! We were promptly seated, but were not greeted by our server, Marc, for 10 minutes. After finally being greeted, we both ordered a glass of wine. We did not get our drinks for 15 minutes. When they finally came, mine was brought out in a refill glass and not even an actual wine glass. I asked Marc for a glass which he said he would go get. After a 10 minute wait, the glass never came and I had to go inside (we were seated outside) myself to grab a glass off of a vacant table inside. Ridiculous. While seated at our table waiting on our food order, we could overhear tables next to us also talking about how terrible and slow the service was. Although our next issue was out of the restaurants control, it should be noted for those interested in eating here. We would not recommend sitting outside unless you don’t mind dealing with cars driving by with loud vulgar music, the smell of marijuana emitting from some of those vehicles and those waking by on foot. Also, several homeless would walk by and eyeball peoples food. Again, out of their control, but be advised. We would consider eating here again due to the great food, but the service needs to drastically improve. Marc, although polite, isn’t up to par for the level of service you’d expect for a nice New Orleans restaurant.

Very disappointing! Where to start? 1. Nobody at front and 15 people waiting. Hostess spent more time explaining what she couldn’t rather than offering service. Refused to let us sit at open seats at the bar since we were early and she wouldn’t seat us at our table. Waited outside for 20 minutes. Once seated, Couldn’t get drinks since the bartender was taking inventory…..during dinner hours! Finally a server showed up but didn’t understand what Tanqueray was. Twenty minutes after ordering a second waiter told us the bartender didn’t know what ‘gin on the rocks’ was! Next, the three meals we wanted were ‘86d’ . The meals we ordered were average at best…..I make better pasta! No manager on site……we won’t return.

I was very disappointed that they were out of bread. The chef wouldn’t make me fettuccini Alfredo. So, I opted for a dish that was similar and the chef wouldn’t leave off the peas. I will say that the food was very good. My husband had a dish with roast and noodles and I had one with noodles in a wine cream sauce.

This as our 2nd visit from out-of-town; the 1st was very good, this one not so much. FYI: the food was excellent, but they fell short in a number of areas:
1) they open at 4:00 but did not answer multiple phone calls between then and our arrival at 4:45;
2) we arrived on time but were asked to sit outside at a sidewalk table for about 10 mins, although every table inside was unoccupied (reason given: all staff was on break);
3) we asked about a cocktail while waiting and were told there was no bartender;
4) we apparently had the first reservation, but were seated at a 2-top right next to the door and hostess station, although there were several others in more desirable locations; then a group of 5 plus a child were seated adjacent to us;
5) only 1 of the 2 sparkling wines-by-the-glass was available, and it was a sweet Moscato.

In fairness, we understand the current difficulty with manning in the industry, but phones always need to answered promptly outside of peak times; inside seating could easily been offered for our relatively short wait; seating location ought to be considered for a (senior) couple--next time we will be more expressive of our expectations. We did indicate our disappoint to the hostess, and she listened courteously. Once the actual meal service began there were no further issues.

We are regular visitors to the Crescent City and will give this cozy spot another try. Hopefully, it will be more like our first one. There are, of course, many other options available in the city.

The service was terrible, the dishes tasted all stale and not properly cooked. The. bread, as you would expect in any Italian restaurant, arrived 30 minutes after we sat even though we asked for it three times. It was not real bread but cooked crostini.... The waiter messed up our order as well.. We definitely will not be going back.

Short staffed and several big tables, but the food was good.

I think this place overbooked themselves. There were only two servers. Later a hostess/bus person/runner came to work. Before that the two servers were doing everything. One was way more efficient than the other. The inefficient one was more experienced, but he talked and entertained more than the other. Both were friendly.

The food was awesome. I can’t complain about it. Those are high marks from me.

I felt sorry for the staff. It was clear they were overwhelmed. The restaurant was only seating people with reservations. So, I’m not sure why they didn’t limit those to a more manageable number.

We had a reservation for noon. We didn’t get our food until 1:30. I had a business call at 2:00 that I missed. That’s ok. It was my choice to miss it.

Enough can’t be said about the staff. Obviously, this is a management problem.

Several items that we ordered were not in stock and we had to make other selections. The food was very average. Not a place we will return to. The restaurant itself looks nice and inviting, but it’s not a place one should go to in New Orleans with so many great choices.

Atmosphere was great, but don’t waste your time! The food was not that great for the time spent there. Our reservations were for 12:00 and we did not leave until 3:00. In the servers defense, she was serving tables, hosting, bussing, and bartend.

Christmas dinner out is never easy especially during Covid. We were thankful to have an opportunity to dine at Italian Barrel and totally understand the wait but it turns out this was not anything like we anticipated or expected. For the amount of our hard earned money spent at this establishment this was a very bad experience. Service was atrocious. after trying to order 2 different bottles of wine no one was there to offer a suggestion for an alternative. There was inappropriate handling and deliver of each course. There was unsanitary delivery of the delayed food. There seemed to be so much chaos again understood on a busy Christmas evening but no one seemed to care. There were no apologies and often snark remarks from staff. I respectfully request a quick response and at the very least a refund of the 20% gratuity. Very unsatisfied.

It’s Christmas Day, so let’s start with that. We arrived a few minutes early abs were snapped at by a waiter that we could wait a minute they weren’t open. We were the first table seated at 11:00 am. We left at 2:30 pm
Drinks took forever. But April our waiter tried her hardest but t was a mess from the start. The porcini ravioli was great! Best of everything. The lobster pasta had no sauce so it was dry. The salad abs sorbet were both too basic for fine dining and the fish was so over cooked I couldn’t eat it. It was dry and burned. The Osso Bucco was good but not the best I’ve had there. The dessert shouldn’t have been served, the strawberries were old and over soaked. The cake was dry and stale. The owner came out several times but didn’t apologize once. The maitre d’ did apologize and we felt horrible for them. It was a disaster. All this fir $600 fir 4 people, oh abs they added gratuity, but called it service then asked fir a tip on the bill, sneaky. These restaurants are using pandemic to screw us with mediocre food abs terrible service but charge out the butt
They should close and we should help them by not buying into this shoddy business.
