The Grill at The Lodge at Torrey Pines
Bar service was pretty poor, the bartender clearly was either new or a fill in and drinks were slow and not very good. Table service was fair, though our wait for drinks was longer than for dinner. The food was not incredibly good, the tomato soup was pretty bland. It’s a nice restaurant, quite pretty, but our experience wasn’t great.
Excellent food! We loved the granola pancakes, especially!
I really loved the food here! The room is smaller and more intimate than many restaurants and the location is just spectacular next to the golf course! It’s quite a gem!
Loved the specialty cocktails too!
Heated outdoor patio very nice. Service was a bit slow when it was not that busy.
Great venue, views, sunset and dinner under the heaters out on the patio.
Going to Torrey Pines Lodge is always incredible! It makes you feel like you're on vacation in your own town. In my opinion it's the most beautiful hotel in San Diego. AR Valentine and the Grille never disappoint. I brought a friend there for her birthday and they served us the best piece of German chocolate cake! Yum! They smoke all their meats on the premises. I have tried most things on the menu and everything is always so tasty.
We both had the cobb salad for lunch and shared the cardamon rice pudding for dessert ... both were delicious!
Great food and service with a breathtaking view of the course and ocean. We all look forward to a return trip!
Iconic golf course is combined with awesome food. What more could one ask for? The view is spectacular.
Beautiful setting, the Lodge is rustic and charming. Staff went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable. From the valet (in his kilt) to two different banquet servers that had nothing to do with my party, our restaurant server, and the gift shop clerk, all well trained in customer service and attention to detail. We sat outside and the view was amazing looking out over the course and ocean. A musician played a nice soft guitar for added ambiance. The food was ok. Not great. Probably just not my thing, I had chicken and waffles and tasted the trout. Neither is a go to for me but I wanted to try something different. Stay for a drink before or after dinner around the numerous fire pits and enjoy the scene. Will certainly be back.
(I heard the burger was quite good but I didn’t get a chance to taste it.)
Exceptional service by warm, friendly, knowledgeable servers. Really haven’t had that level of service in quite a while. Food was wonderful and large portions.
Squeezed in to close to bar with a table for four. Too noisy.
Food was fair. Ambiance was great. For this place it should be better. Been here before so a bit disappointed. Overall, still enjoyed the night.
One of our entrees was a little under cooked, however we would definitely return
Generous portions of thoughtful variations plus some classics. Highly recommend.
Home made potato chips and dip are excellent. My steak wasn't prepared as requested (asked for it to be medium but was medium rare), but it was delicious. Service was ok - it took an unusually long time to receive our entrees. The waitress was nowhere to be found when I wanted to send my steak back so it could be cooked to medium. We've dined here several times and this was the first time I've ever been disappointed with the food or service.
We all loved it
Great food service and atmosphere!!
We love both restaurants at the lodge. Food is usually very good. We ate at The Grill Sunday. My cousin’s pork chop was over cooked and Irish coffees were cold. His wife and I enjoyed are meals.
Best burger ever! Enjoy the ambiance, service, and delicious burger here!
They give you homemade French onion dip and potato chips- so delicious! The food wasn’t anything fabulous but good. they have a great beverage list and the most beautiful view! I prefer brunch to dinner. But it’s always a lovely ambiance.
The wait staff was not pleasant and seemed insulted that we came!
Not super exciting - mediocre food, mediocre service, mediocre decor. I expected much more.
We had a delicious dinner. My nine year old daughter loved the chicken and waffles and my husband and I shared a couple of salad and steak! All were delicious and high quality ingredients! Worth a trip even if your not staying there! And if you are staying there don’t feel like you are compromising to stay on campus relax and have a great dinner!
The ambiance was amazing with the sunset over Torrey Pines. The food was casual, but classy. Thank God for the outdoor heaters on a chilly February day.
It’s a good place for lunch but I would not recommend for dinner. The food was just “good” not great. They seated us at a table the size of a Television tray and had to remove the small succulent arrangement to make room for the chips and dip. Even though we had made reservations several weeks in advance they tried to seat us in the bar first... too bad I don’t like leaving a review like this
Because of the rain, we were seated in the Bar section, and it was noisy and distracting with TVs on, but food and service was good.
Great service and even better food. The chicken and waffles were exceptional. The maple syrup butter was out of this world. Danny was outstanding.
Love the lodge. I could use a few more salads with protein. I need to eat gluten free so not a big issue for your broader clientele. We got charged for a second carafe of coffee. Not sure I would do that. But generally really enjoy all my time at the Lodge at both restaurants and the spa.
The scene was awesome: sunset. The ambiance fitted just fine. Friendly staff. Food was very good. Somewhat expensive but worth the view and the ambiance. Live guitar was a plus!
The staff was terrific to greet my party with a “happy birthday,“ because this was a special occasion that I had registered in OpenTable. Multiple times throughout our dining experience staff members were saying happy birthday to my mom, and also repeated that as we left following our meal. Thanks so much for that graciousness and hospitality!
Otherwise, unfortunately the service was particularly slow that day, so it took a long time for us to receive food with each of the courses we ordered.
Torry Pines is a spectacular gem! The service in The Grill was great as was the view from our booth by the window. Southern California has an almost solid guarantee of love at first bite with fish tacos no matter where you're eating them. The Twin Fish Tacos I had at The Grill this week were flavorless. The long portions of fried fish were nestled on top of shredded purple cabbage on corn tortillas, but there close to no seasoning on the fish or in the tortilla. The pinto beans served with the tacos had zero flavor. It was a very disappointing dining experience given the renown of the Torrey Pines Lodge. We'll give it another shot sometime and ask the server for a recommendation.
Excellent food. We sat on the patio which was beautiful. We especially loved the homemade chips they put on the table.
Great deal for Restaurant Week. The ambiance is more like a chain restaurant, however it may be nicer to dine outside. We opted for inside as it was cold.
Beautiful hotel and grounds. Restaurant could've better capitalized on the view. Service was fantastic!, although every time someone passed through the kitchen door they YELL 'DOOR!'. Unnerving.
Salad, tomato soup with grilled cheese, stroganoff and desserts were excellent. Salmon was tasteless except for the overly-fishy flavor. Couscous looked great but also tasteless. This isn't the hotel's 'fine dining', but worth a visit just to see the hotel. Nice patio, cozy and relaxing dining room.
One of my favorite dining places.
I had the swordfish entree and it was probably the worst dinner I have ever had. The waiter did not ask us if the food was good and when the cleared the table, they didn't comment on why so little of my dinner was eaten. Extremely disappointed with this experience. Will not come back or recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I have been there twice for business lunches. Always very good service and excellent food.
New Job Celebration
This is a great lunch spot. Food and views are terrific. Be prepared for a longer walk from the parking structure and/or the lobby.
My wife and I were visiting the La Jolla area with another couple and were staying nearby. We had eaten at The Grill previously and, along with our friends, were excited to return. Although the weather was too cool to sit outside comfortably, the inside proved to be very cozy on the cool evening. The salads were very fresh and, although not huge, we found them large enough for each couple to share. Our friends also ended up sharing an entre -- the stroganoff. My wife enjoyed the trout and I loved the large, juicy pork chop. The cocktails were expertly prepared and The Grill's wine list, while not overly extensive, is top notch. Prices at The Grill are a bit high, even for the La Jolla area, but not outlandish and, having eaten here previously, we were not surprised. Great spot for a quiet evening dinner. (We're very sensitive to restaurant acoustics). Weather permitting, outdoor seating on the patio (overlooking the property grounds and Torrey Pines golf course), should be requested.
