About this restaurant

  • Great for scenic views
  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
Situated in the Red Rocks country 17 miles southwest of Denver on Hwy 285, The Fort is a true replica of Bent's Fort, (1833-1849), the first American fur trade post in Colorado. The Cheyenne, Arapahoe, Kiowa and Pawnee traded and intermarried at Bent's Old Fort, creating an economic and peaceful exchange of cultures in an otherwise violent West. The Fort building is on the National Registry of Historic Places, and celebrates the many cultures that traded at Bent's Old Fort. Our menu features "New Foods of the Old West" including the best cuts of buffalo, elk and quail, grilled to perfection. There are vegetarian options inspired by American Indian recipes including Corn Beans and Squash, known as the Three Sacred Sisters. The wine list is awarded the Wine Spectator each year, and the nine dining rooms, with intimate seating, has a 350 seat capacity, with real adobe "beehive "fireplaces that burn wood in the winter and fall months. Romantic. Amazing views of the Valley and Mountains!

The food is always amazing and the staff are very friendly. Drove from Indiana to Denver for my birthday and chose the Fort for dinner. Unfortunately, there was a really loud drunk group next to us and it was impossible to have a conversation with my spouse during the meal. The staff did their best with the noise but they, the group continued being extremely loud. Overall it was a good food experience. Maybe some place cozier for special occasion reservations.

Amazing place, a Colorado institution. We had the great privilege of sitting outside on a gorgeous evening with the spectacular view. We were celebrating my daughter’s birthday and had her and her hubby’s three month old baby with us. The hostess supplied a car seat holder so we could have her at table height! Our server and his helper were fantastic, so patient and timed everything perfectly. We had the duck, the Ocean to mountains, and the Fort version of the steak, plus a couple of appetizers. Our waiter noted they were having a great special on a lovely cabernet, so we had that as well. Such a deal! Bread pudding and homemade ice cream for a festive birthday dessert! We enjoyed every bite of everything and every minute of our time at this iconic place.

The food did not disappoint. My husband and grandson ordered the game plate and my son had quail. I had the prairie caviar. The service was fantastic and the outdoor setting was beautiful. I left with a jar of their huckleberry jam. We will return.

As usual Outstanding! My daughter and granddaughter are in town from Delaware. One of their best dinners ever. A night to remember. We live in Longmont and is always a treat to come south to The Fort. Until our next time…

The Fort is a very unique experience that any foodie, history buff, or adventure seeker should try. There were 2 private events going on during my visit and yet the service was consistent and pacing of the meal was perfect. Definitely a spot for a special treat or a treat while visiting the area.
