I took advantage of the dine downtown special and booked a table for my boyfriend and I. Upon entering we were placed in a secluded booth near the back, I was very fond of the seating it was both romantic, secluded and quiet despite the restaurant being completely full. The service was absolutely outstanding, our server was warm, funny and attentive (I forget her name). There was never a moment when my water wasn't refilled or I was in need of anything, the staff were pros at anticipating the needs of their customers. Despite the how busy DD gets, we were still treated like we were the only ones in the restaurant and we were thanked by all the staff as we left.
Now that I'm i'm finished gushing over the service, I can talk about the food which did not meet my expectations. The dine downtown menu was simple enough, one salad, 4 main courses to choose from and 2 desserts to choose from. Our server even mentioned potential add ons such as a 15$ wine flight and a 15$ add on of lobster tail or pork belly to any entree. I got the vegetarian option which was a vegetable napoleon. My boyfriend got the NY steak. The salads was quite honestly something I often make at home; spring mix, sweet tart dressing, blue cheese and fruit. It wasn't bad but it wasn't impressive for a fine dining establishment. My entree was what I was most disappointed in the most, the napoleon was layers of vegetables like sweet potato and spinach stacked with a tomato and ricotta sauce. It was was too simple, too bland, their wasn't a wow factor to the dish. The dish wasn't complex at all, the sauce tasted like tomato paste and the ricotta wasn't seasoned with herbs but just slathered on, once again it wasn't bad but underwhelming and not memorable. My boyfriend enjoyed his steak very much, calling it tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. My favorite part was the desserts, a apple cake and mousse cake, they were tasty though not amazing.
My wife and I enjoyed our dinner very much. The service was spot on and food was delicious. Well spiced and the presentation was spot on.
Food, presentation and service were all outstanding. We ordered from the Dine Downtown special menu. Atlantic salmon and the New York strip steak entrees were both excellent. The desserts were decadent, and I had the absolute best cup of decaf coffee I have ever tasted. The staff is professional, attentive and cordial. This is a special, historic restaurant that epitomizes the best of Old Sacramento. We will return.
Went here for my girlfriend's birthday. I had a cake that I delivered beforehand which they were happy to store and bring out at the right time. Our server also was great- very laid back while professional. Only downside was their dessert which was pretty mild in terms of flavor.
We had the Dine Downtown deal and were expecting small portions - were we ever wrong! The food was delicious and the staff were excellent. Would definitely consider coming back to eat for lunch. The prices for dinner are very expensive. Would be great for a special occasion where money was no object.
Beautiful place. Nice menu. Great service. Food was very good but Salmon was rather tasteless. Chocolate Mousse was to die for
Dine Downtown menu had excellent choices for dinner. We especially enjoyed the New York strip and the organic chicken breast. Both entrees came with delicious sides. The wine flight was a great compliment to all the food courses. I most especially enjoyed the Cherry Pie Pinot Noir. The ambiance was cozy and pleasant. The wait staff was personable, helpful and attentive.
food was reasonable, but not fantastic. We had the $35 special. Too few wine choices below $75.00.
Birthday for my husband.
Lovely booth seating. Tables spaces far enough apart to maintain calm, quiet atmosphere.
We went for Dine Downtown and the food and service was incredible! Highly recommend for special occasions!
Always a pleasure to dine at the Firehouse. We took advantage of the Dine Downtown Sacramento special menu and it was great.
Came here to celebrate my niece’s 8th birthday. Service was great. They were attentive to our needs. The adults took advantage of the dine downtown menu and the food was amazing. Our server was able to get red sauce with my nephew’s pasta, even when it wasn’t on the menu. They also gave the kids their own desserts free of charge! And of course, a special creme brûlée for the birthday girl! Oh and their moscato was delicious! Will definitely come back for more!
We came for the Dine Downtown Event and it was amazing! It was my first time visiting the Firehouse and it was better than I imagined. We were seated in front of the fireplace and it felt so romantic. Our dinner was delicious and the wine was well paired! Cheers!
This was my 3rd visit to The Firehouse. This time, I went for Dine Downtown 2019. The service was impressive, and the food was delicious. I had the NY strip steak, and it was cooked perfectly. I asked for medium, and it pink throughout, and very juicy and flavorful. The chocolate mousse cake was a treat! It was a great finish to a very memorable meal.
We dined at the Firehouse during Dine Downtown Week. The food was wonderful. The restaurant was packed and the servers appeared to be a bit rushed, but all things considered the food and service were great. One thing we noticed that might have been improved was disproportional servings of wine. Several groups 30 something women diners, who also ordered wine flights with their Dine Downtown menu entrees, were served considerably more than 2 ounces per glass (it looked more like 4 ounces), while our table of 3 senior citizens was served wine flights with less than 2 ounce pours. One person in our group happened to have a shot glass in her purse to measure some medicine she needed to take. We measured the wine in one of our wine glasses. It was approximately a 1.6 ounce pour. Customers do notice when they are treated differently than others -- especially when the same server is serving all the tables in an area.
The food was perfect and great portions. The service was exceptional.
I always enjoy going to the Firehouse. It reminds me of when I was young and my first experience in finer dining.
Just a wonderful experience. Would come back again. The ambience was excellent. The service was great!
Really enjoyed my 1st visit to the Firehouse. I love that we could check our coats instead of having to keep them on our chairs. That was very classy. Food was excellent, in both presentation & preparation, everything cooked the way we asked. The service was wonderful, staff treated us so well. So glad they participated in Dine Downtown week & we got a chance to experience The Firehouse for a very reasonable cost. We'll be back!
Truly exceptional service, no two ways about it. Extensive wine list, but weak cocktails. Creative menu, executed with a flair for presentation. The wilted greens accompanying the salmon were, sadly, salty and overdone - though it is difficult to do such things well. Too, the smoked duck was practically indistinguishable from ham. But the steak was transcendent, as were the Brussels sprouts (too few!). And the chocolate ganache gateau was simply exquisite. The booths along the south wall are to be preferred, affording a modicum of privacy, something of a noise cancelling cocoon, and an excellent perch for observing one's fellow diners. Rather spendy venue, but fun for a special evening with that certain someone.
We had been here before. Still feels the same. The staff seems to think elegant means stuffy. Not a comfortable or friendly atmosphere. Our white wine was not cooled down enough. Gourmet salad was basically greens. We were seated in the dining room downstairs, and used the ladies room down there. Both toilets were clogged. One stall had overflow water on the floor. Very uncomfortable.
Expensive dining but well worth it! Definitely for special occasion unless money is not an issue I would dine here frequently. Staff was amazing! Food was amazing! I have absolutely no complaints. Valet parking boys were super helpful as well. Highly recommend eating here.
Great service and wonderful food!
Can't wait to dine at the Firehouse sooner rather than later.
The service was outstanding and it has a nice ambiance
Service was exceptional, Derrick had a great personality and good food and wine menu knowledge. The 6 oz lobster tail was served lukewarm with very flavorless drawn butter. However, the NY was extremely flavorful and cooked perfectly as well was the wild caught Salmon.
Fantastic experience and great food! Was able to get my preferred seat near the fireplace. Made my wife’s birthday extra special. Will be back soon!
great service & a very nice meal. it was an 'off night' so there wasn't a lot of distraction...made the night!
Good food, I had the salmon tacos! I would definitely recommend them. Comfortable seating. The ambiance was a little stuffy, but the restaurant was not too busy so it was possible to have conversations without a lot of background noise.
Service was outstanding. Very attentive. Food was very good. Atmosphere is elegant and comfortable.
The food was good, but not GREAT, nothing very special. Our rib eye tasted more like a filet, not what we were expecting. Being the most expensive item on the menu, you'd expect perfection. The wine list was almost to expansive. The service was excellent, but they really need to update the surroundings and become more relevant. Frank Sinatra, gilded picture frames and fake flowers....really? It just SCREAMS 1970's old men's club. Not my favorite.
But, they did give us a free creme brulee for our anniversary, which was nice.
It was my son’s birthday. We always love this restaurant. The food is beautifully presented and scrumptious to eat. The service is outstanding.
As with past experiences at the Fire House service and food was excellent.
My boyfriend and I have been here twice now and we have been pleased both times with just about everything. The Oysters are amazing, salads delicious and so far, the Duck, Scallops, Chicken and swordfish have been wonderful. They have a very extensive wine list and yummy cocktails. Their deserts are wonderful also!
The service is impeccable. My only complaint is the lighting, it’s just a little to romantically dim for me to read the menu!
Will be back again and again, even if I have to bring a little flashlight 😊
Over cooked steak and droped tray of crab for no special Food not done well at all
Jeremy is an excellent server. The spinach salad, Firehouse Trio and Clam Bisque were wonderful we ordered Pork, the Delmonico and lamb for main courses and were not disappointed
The Grand Manier Soufflé and cappuccino mouser were fantastic.
Darrell was and excellent server, he made our New year's experience unique, the ambiance and the place itself was perfect to celebrate.
Excellent food and service BUT we had to wait 45 minutes for our 8.15 table reservation as the restaurant was running late. I would have given 5 stars otherwise.
We love the Firehouse for New Years! Please seat large groups separately ( in another room) , because they drink and start yelling! I want a quiet, luxurious meal..not a bar room atmosphere. Also, waiting for a table would be more comfortable in a place with seating, away from front door. Maybe upstairs ( which was empty New Years).
