Reservation on time, waiter, James, was superior - my wife ordered a drink but the mug was too soapy tasting for her to drink. James brought her a replacement glass of wine, at no charge, and with my, too sweet drink, we waited for our dinner. The food came, none of which was particularly good, we paid the check' with a hefty tip for James, and left. The greatest letdown was that the only other time I had been there, everything we ordered was excellent. We won't be returning any time soon.
3rd time back, and while the District is good, it just isnt as good as it was when it 1st opened, and so we will not be returning. We had 5 dishes in all. The brussel sprouts were again very good, as was the flat bread. The shaken beef was good, not great. However the chicken wings were nothing special, and the black cod was practically tasteless. The beer list remains a travesty. The outdoor space is pleasant, and service was competent. This isnt a bad restaurant, but you can do so much better in the same neighborhood. Night+Market, for one, continues to kill it.
The food here is extremely over priced and not that good tbh. The brussel sprouts were soaking in oil.. drenched. The uni pasta was super salty. The walnut shrimp and the beef dumplings were pretty good though. But for the price, def not worth it. The reason why I gave this place such a low score was my waitress. This was my first time here and I had purchased a Gilt $100 voucher to give this place a shot. I gave the voucher to someone for my waitress. The bill came and the $100 was not deducted. I had to wave the waitress down again and felt her hesitation to credit me. That just left a bad taste for me. On top of the service lacking attention all dinner. I guess that was my first and last time there. I can go somewhere else and pay one fourth the price for double the amount of food with higher quality. Extremely over priced Chinese food.
The concept is great and the menu is enticing, but the food isn't anything to rave about. I came with higher expectations. The prices are clearly set based on the BH location. There's better Vietnamese elsewhere in the city at more affordable prices. Save your money.
Brought our friends visiting from Texas here to give him a nice LA scene and something different. The Alaskan Crab was SO delicious! Our Server Jennifer was a delight and gave great service. Had the Lemongrass Crème Brulé and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it's light but satisfying taste! Will come back again!
I went to the place because its sister restaurant The Crustacean was under renovation. I love the Crustacean and was hoping The District would been similar in its offerings, including the dungeoness crab and garlic noodle. But, I was disappointed because the fusion style food at the District in terms of flavors just didn't work for me. The king crab legs with pesto was a weird combo that did not go well together and the crab meat itself was dry and hardly had any flavor. I also got the bone marrow appetizer but the bone marrow was buries with a bunch of other ingredients like eggplant, so that I didn't taste the bone marrow. The curried brussel sprouts were too burnt and dry. In all, I was not a fan of the food there.
Enjoyed our meal here. Food was attractively presented and had interesting flavor but portions were meager. We ordered two appetizers (scallops and calamari) both tasted good but they were very small to be shared by 4 people. Three mains - Shaken beef, Buddha’s delight (a veggie hot pot), and Tamarind Black Cod, and, of course, the resto’s signature garlic noodles. Two of us had cocktails - they were good (mine had cucumber, spouse had the resto’s version of margarita). Our waiter was very nice, explained the food well, and was attentive during the meal bringing dishes just at the right time. Overall a pleasant dining experience, but for the high price of the food and the small portions, we’d probably not go back unless we had a coupon.
While the food was outstanding, the service was abysmal. Our waiter just was "out to lunch". We couldn't get him to attend to us. We were 9 people and it was bad. He didn't seem to care or know what he was doing. The management made it "right" for us by discounting our check, which was the right thing to do. I will give it another try because I really loved the food. He sort of ruined the occasion of my friend's birthday.
I had looked forward to dining at The Disrtict as I remember fondly the owner's other family restaurant, Crustacean, in Beverly Hills. BUT, what happened? The dining room is dirty, the chairs are stained, the floor is filthy, and even the Men's restroom reminded me of a bathroom at a college frat beer blast - it was filthy with no paper towels and trash, etc. all over. The food was not fresh, not tasty, tiny in portion and simply not of high quality at all. The soy glazed clay pot fish was so overcooked and not at all fresh and for $39 an absolutely tiny portion. The Uni and Crab noodles were over cooked and so overloaded with sodium, it was almost inedible. It is obvious that the owners do not care and do not oversee this place at all. They are riding on their famous hritage and on the HUGE amount of advertising to bring enough people in to keep the lights on, but this cannot go on for much longer. So, disappointing - I really feel ripped off.
Wonderful decor and ambiance, our server was great. Food was incredibly mundane and small portions - which just made it expensive for what it was. Wine list was cheap wines marked up by a huge percent.
Don’t bother with this one, just go to the original at Crustacean.
Consistently serving outstanding food, great service, beautiful setting. Love the ahi poke, Chilean sea bass, roasted heirloom cauliflower, , chicken, shaken beef, curry Brussels sprouts and their famous Hannah's Homemade Noodles. Our waiter James was amazing. Most enjoyable evening. Sat on the patio.
Poor service on a Saturday lunch despite only 5 tables having people. Kitchen took almost 45 minutes to prepare food and our server, while very polite, almost completely disappeared. Drinks weren't refilled and no one came to ask us how the food was after it came. (My food was good although my son hated his steak and eggs as the filet meat pieces were very fatty and of poor quality. My wife also didn't like her brunch order either.) Very disappointed.

I'm considered a bit of a "food snob."...Maybe true. I do love great, tasty, original flavors, fresh well prepared ingredients, good service,and willing to pay for options. Great for date, business, or everyday! No, I'm not an investor, nor connected in any other way. I'm just a 'great food' junky!
Though food was good, it was extremely overpriced for the cuts of fish that were served. $39.00 for sea bass that was at the most 3 inches across. Appetizers were excellent, the bone marrow, chicken wings, and tuna poke were beautifully presented and consumed with relish. Dessert of pear tartin was anything but a tart. More like a cake and not worth the money. Poor description of what it was and looked like and for that matter taste.
