The city barge was always a good venue to go to. However went there yesterday for Sunday lunch. It came up cold and the lamb was very fatty the outside area needed a thorough clean and he overall experience was very disappointing.

Hi Marian, Thanks for leaving us a great 4 star review and for your comments about the staff and food, great to hear you enjoyed your visit. We're in the process of upgrading the outdoor area, those planters and flowers alone cost over £3000 a couple of months ago, so it is a matter of spending wisely and within budget, but it is an area we are investing in. Unfortunately in the present financial climate we haven't got the resources to invest in everything we'd like to, so have to pick and choose. Despite being local I had not been to City Barge to eat for a couple of years. It was great to see a strong menu, great service and a very tasty choice - the steak sandwich. I’ll be back soon.

We had a 730pm table at the City Barge. Great views. Packed bar and restaurant. Despite it being Father’s Day, and a busy day for the pub, staff were cheerful and attentive. Food was excellent, although a few items had sold out. So it was a fun sunny Sunday evening by the river. What’s not to like!

Main course was lukewarm. it was obvious that they were very short of staff. Waited well over an hour for our food. They kindly offered the desert and an apology but we had no explanation on what happened. The terrace needs some TLC. Tables, parasols are shabby. The floor is uneven. Not good value for money overall. It is a real shame as this place has great potential.

Indeed, the kitchen were very busy due to the warm weather so couldn't keep up. Completely our fault, please do accept my apologies. The parasols were replaced this year, but as they are outside permanently they do suffer fron the effects of the weather, and unfortunatlely there is nothing we can do about the slope. We do have a lovely dog free restaurant area if you do require a bit of peace and quiet, though admittedly this can be very busy as well on a Sunday. Real shame, we used to love the City Barge, but the food was v average, and there was a terrible band playing so it was unpleasantly noisy.

The band was a group of Chiswick school Children who we allow to use the venue every so often to hone their performing skills. We believe it's vitally important that pubs support, and are the centre of, their local community. We actually feel that the quality of the music is fantastic, especially when you consider they're still in school, so I'm sorry you found them terrible. They're usually done well before 8pm to minimise any inconvenince for those just looking for a quiet dinner later on. We do hope you'll give us another chance.
