The Bull and Swan at restaurant at Burghley near Stamford in Lincolnshire is a combination of pub and restaurant in an historic building that produces brilliant, simple British food in a setting that couldn’t be more comfortable and relaxed. With no aspirations for Michelin stars or AA rosettes, the ethos here at the Bull and Swan has a menu based entirely on local ingredients like cockles from the Wash, cheese from Cote Hill and very local vegs, venison, beef and game from the Burghley Estate. The weekday Lazy Log Fire Lunches are a terrific deal for two or three courses while the a la carte – no towers, no drizzles – is full of British favourites. Sunday lunch is a local favourite.

The Bull and Swan is a very atmospheric Stamford Inn with a cosy bar and log fire. The set menu is excellent value and nicely done - not too ambitious, not too fancy-shmancy, just good ingredients and well cooked. Which is really all you want from a pub lunch isn't it?
