The Bavarian Inn Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
This visit, as a group of four good friends, we enjoyed meeting up on a not too busy Thursday evening in December for dinner, experienced friendly service, enjoyed a generous plating of great food, with a good selection of wines, but limited selection of beer on offer. A peaceful place within a forest setting, away from the madding crowds of the City, where the food is never a disappointment whether you eat in the cozy dining room or the outdoor patio. Reliably offering at least one local seasonal dish second to none in quality, preparation and taste. If you love wholesome traditional meals that remind you of home but created by award winning chefs. I highly recommend this place to my best friends.
My husband and I️ were at the Bavarian Inn for our anniversary dinner last night, and we were disappointed with our experience from when we were there about a year ago. The food was okay, nothing special, it was extremely loud (though that was mainly due to one table of oblivious people) and the overall ambiance was not what we found and loved from our previous experience.
We had read the online menu before we came..and drove from Airdrie especially for a few of the items. To our disappointment the menu had recently changed and they were no longer offering those specific meals. Also the wait time between finishing our appetizer and receiving our meal was 30 minutes..a tad longer then the normal wait time. Besides those couple things..the food was fantastic. Beautifully plated and outstanding flavors.
We enjoyed dinner but it was quite busy and the restaurant staff were challenged to keep up, decided to opt out of coffee and dessert for fear that we would be there for hours. Food was fine (the schnitzel was really good, lamb that was really salty, but that may be a personal preference.) We have had better meals here so may just have been an off night.
Food was really good and authentic
Quality and quantity were just great
I think a couple more choices for appies / soup would not go amiss
After our appies, entrees took a really really long time to arrive, in fact I had to go and ask what was taking the time .... no real apologies or explanation.
Overall good experience
Lovely place in any season. It was a beautiful day for lunch and we could have sat on the patio, but chose to dine in. Wood burning fireplace in the winter would be especially cozy. The beer on tap was excellent and 6 of the 7 dishes (German) were very well done and tasty. The weiner schnitzel takes up most of the plate! The steak sandwich could have been improved upon, the steak was overdone (albeit had a good flavour) and the rye bread it was placed on was a bit charred. The black forest cake was nicely portioned and delicious; the cake is a light brown and not the dark I was expecting. I would recommend a screen of some kind on the door between the patio and dining room as the flies were taking full advantage of the room to roam. Overall, an excellent experience and I would recommend this restaurant.
My wife and I enjoyed the food at the restaurant. We started the evening with cucumber salad and crab cakes. The cucumber salad was very tasty and even though the crab cakes we not traditional (taste like potato pancake coating and a filling of crab meat) it still tasted very good.
My wife decided to go with traditional weiner schnitzel and I went with Rouladen which was very tender and very good. We ended the evening with creme brûlée (it was ok but missing something)and Black Forest cake which was absolutely fantastic. Price was... its a bit pricey but we enjoyed the food so we didn't mind. Only issue of the evening was the parking lot was not big enough and overflow is in back of property which was a field.
Our waiter was probably more interested in the Mayweather/Macgregor fight than he was working. We hardly saw him. Our food was slow coming out of the kitchen (the table next to us ordered at least 10 minutes after we did and their food arrived before ours) The Veal cordon bleu was tough and under seasoned. Our waiter argued that we must surely be wrong because that "rarely" happens. Don't make excuses, apologize and move on.
