Tucked in the Twin Cities’ vibrant North Loop district stands one of the most lauded restaurants in the state. The Bachelor Farmer is a tribute to its Northern region's wild lands and deep agriculture roots, with a focus on sustainability to boot. Think whole-animal butchery, veggies picked fresh from the rooftop garden, and foraged delicacies like pine cones softened with honey over the long winter.

As “first timers”, we loved the selection of food and beverage. The four of us enjoyed the nuanced flavors (the Tuxedo and Brooklyn for drinks, the fennel/walleye combination etc.) Our waiter was informative and interesting- offering suggestions but not intrusive. The setting was great - right down to the exposed beams.Wonderful dining experience!

This was our first visit to BF and we enjoyed it. We saw the review in Mpls St Paul restaurant and when we realized the team was built from chefs from Heartland and Lucia's (both places we tried and liked), we knew we had to try it. We were thoroughly amazed with our first experience with sunroot soup and the rest of the meal (including the warm Popover with honey was delicious. Who would of thought that toast would be so delicious when made with whipped wattle red pork fat? Very willing to come back again.

This is not a 4-star restaurant. It is perhaps 2+ stars. But it is a most relaxing neighborhood place that even we who don't live in the area visit from time to time. The service is just wonderful. And the food is close, so close but has never, ever been more than very good. On our dinner the other night the sunchoke soup was superb and the venison sausage with polenta was outstanding. The lovely chicken was fatally marred by brining which rendered it too salty. A good kitchen should never brine, in my opinion. It takes more skill to keep chicken moist without brine, but it tastes much better. The Caesar tasted of lemons, not Caesar dressing, and the butterscotch pudding was bitter with little butterscotch flavor. This dinner hit exactly the same quality level as our others have over the years, regardless of the chef. We wish it were better and we'd come a lot more often.

Must have been an off nite (short-staffed). Dined here before and service was better (waited a long time between being seated and having a server come by) Also, our server not so familiar with the wine menu. Asparagus ramp soup was amazing. Mon nights are chop nights. An oversized brined bone-in pork chop, was the best we'd ever had! Lamb short rib appetizer in a balsamic glaze was perfect.

This was our first time at The Bachelor Farmer. We went for our 25th wedding anniversary. From start to finish, we were impressed with it ALL! It’s been almost 3 weeks and I’m still dreaming of our meal! My husbands pork chop was THE BEST we’ve ever had! Our server was personable, helpful, present, but not more than we needed him to be. Drinks, food, dessert—all top notch! It was a little noisy, but it was just diners’ glee, not music. We will for sure go back on for another big event :)

My sister-in-law was in town from Boston last week. She had heard good things about The Bachelor Farmer and wanted to try it. She heard about it, as it was nationally recognized and she had never eaten at a James Beard Winning Restaurant before. So, that was my first pick for her! Thankfully, I could get a reservation on Open Table on a Sunday night. We had an excellent dinner and desserts! Our server was very good! A great experience and to thank us, my sister-in-law paid for our dinner that night! Wow! a WIN-WIN!

We had high hopes but were not impressed. Super strong emphasis on buying wine off their bottle list which made it seem like the waitress would get a commission. We had drinks downstairs at Marvel which was really good ( & expensive) but a bit hard to decipher on the menu what the drink ingredients were. The dinner menu seemed a bit light on options and our waitress did not offer up much by way of explanation or recommendations. Pretty much all of our menu choices ended being just okay---but not fantastic. A bit of a let down and we probably will not be back based on our first experience...

The food was amazing. They have a way with vegetables. Marinated turnips surprisingly delicious. Charred kale so smoky, so good. Beets were great as well. Then we also ordered lamb shank, tender, rich not overly lamb-ish. Only complaint was our first bottle of Rose was not thoroughly chilled.

I love so many restaurants in this area (Spoon and Stable, Butcher and the Boar, Bar la grasa, Smack Shack, Four bells). Cute place, good cocktails and our service was great but all four of our entrees were pretty bland. We can check it off the list but I won’t be back.

This place doesn’t live up to the hype, but is still a fine night out and a good pre-game before heading down to Marvel Bar. I thought the food was just good, not great, although the group I was with all really enjoyed the charcuterie board a lot. There are some many great options around here, I don’t think I’d be back.

Being from Boston, it was a thrill to see Northern Pike as the fish of the day. It is a delicate fish, often disparaged as boney, that was simply and beautifully prepared. A great treat. We shared a tomato board served with homemade fresh cheese, similar to homemade ricotta and a dense, whole wheat sourdough bread. (This was such a generous plate, it could stand in as a lunch.) Marinated turnips sat on a pool of basil parmesan cream and surrounded with baby greens - altogether heavenly. Alas, if only it weren't so far from Boston, I'd eat there often.
