Terrine lets you eat like an adult without having to feel too much like one. Sit on their amazing patio and eat charcuterie. With your hands.
I really enjoyed the food at Terrine. The cocktails, frites, beef tartare and onion soup were all great! However, our sever was less than friendly. I was with a group of four and ordered the deviled eggs for a starter. We requested that we pay extra for an additional egg since it came with 3 but we wanted 4. The server responded by saying, "the chef is a d*ck so I don't think he will."
The hostess continuously checked in on us yet the server never did. Even asking him for another bottle of sparkling water seemed to annoy him.
Overall, I might not return due to the service.
One of the better dinners i've had in recent memory. I highly recommend the veal and the burger. The salad was delicious, too. Great service and outdoor ambiance.
The courtyard in the back is perfect for a romantic date or special occasion, on par with The Little Door or AOC. The food is good (not sublime), and the menu not so extensive, but this is a nice place to have in your repertoire of beautiful settings and high quality food to add some magic to your evening with that special someone.
A quick update to our review below:
The staff at Terrine reached out to us to address our comments and they were very professional and gracious in expressing a sincere desire to make our dinning experiences with them perfect. Based upon this we're upgrading our review and will be reviewing Terrine again in the near future after our next visit.
Went to Terrine specifically for their hamburger, and it's outstanding! We wish we'd limited our order to the burger and poutine, (fries smothered in cheese and great french onion soup, also outstanding). The rest of the items we ordered were average to uneatable. The steak tartare was good but, nothing out of the ordinary. The chicken liver toast was to salty to eat and the pork belly was tough and lacked flavor. We must say that the grits served with the pork belly were very good. When we expressed our dislike of the extreme salty taste of the chicken liver toast our server simply stated..... "a lot of people find our food to salty". Back to the burger..... amazing and well worth dinning at Terrine! The meat grind with the addition of fograis and then topped with fograis make this burger a carnivores dream come true. Hence this is one of the most difficult reviews we ever written because as good as the burger and poutine were the rest of the meal was a big disappointment. If you're a burger and fograis lover this is the place, it's to bad the other items we ordered were so terrible disappointing.
Chef Kris and his staff were incredible, from the service to the quality of food and drinks. Great and affordable wine list. It was a memorable birthday dinner!
Went to this restaurant with high hopes and was disappointed. Service was good, and the ambience was fine, but the food was poorly prepared. The escargots were bland, the grilled fish was swimming in oil, and the vegetables were overcooked and burned. Too bad - had hoped for better.
I love this place, foie grass is delicious! And actually every plate is tasty. The restaurant has a beautiful decor and the bar is very inviting, i love this place even just for drinks but that will be a pity to miss on the food.
Amazing, get the octopus and the arugula salad to start. Gilbert took incredible care of us, and it's just so beautiful in there
While I liked the ambiance of the restaurant, we were waiting close to 10 minutes for our table that we had reserved when half of the restaurant was empty. The hostess was standing there looking at her computer, and our table we ended up sitting in was empty, already set up.
The food was ridiculously salty, and this is coming from me, someone who enjoys more salt than the average person. Other than the salt, the food was pretty good.
Normally great. Terrible idea for thanksgiving holiday.
Very loud 1980s new-wave music and a noisy bar did not set a proper Thanksgiving Dinner vibe in the dining room. The food, however, was delicious.
Ate here for Thankgiving. Best Thanksgivng meal ever and I didn't have to
go out buy the food, cook it and then clean up. Simple Thanksgivng menu and each item was delicious. We've not eaten here before so I have no idea what the food is like day in and day out. Be sure to be seated on patio if you can. Highly recommend for Thanksgiving!
We went for Thanksgiving. We had the best time! The waiter was great and the food was excellent. We also met the finalist for the The Voice!
A bit disappointed by our lunch at Terrine. Liked the outdoor patio, but food was just Ok. Ordered foie gras, onion soup, French burger and spicy chicken sandwich. Ordered a Manhattan served up and got an Old Fashioned on ice, TWICE. The food was not very French, which was disappointing.
A little pricey for brunch but the food is excellent. If you skip having a drink, the bill will be moderate but two drinks each easily sends the bill skyward.
Terrine is just what this Beverly Blvd neighborhood needed...set in a beautiful garden, French bistro cuisine and reasonable prices.
Totally amazing service.
The service was a bit slow, but food was great otherwise!
Beautiful dinner on the patio. Great service. Steak Frites were fantastic. Get extra aioli. Will return.
Beautiful meal in a beautiful setting. Lamb shank was outstanding as well as the birthday cake dessert. Out of town company LOVED it
Appatizer and desert were good. Place just did not impress. Service was not particularly friendly. Nothing remarkable about the place.
Very good food, service and cocktails. Charming patio for evening dining.
Lovely patio as well as indoor seating. Service was good. They did forget that I had specified it was our friend's birthday and no dessert/song was done. But, possibly that's their policy.
Nothing really great about the place other than ambience.
The service was terrible. We actually had to wait for some time before someone noticed we had no menus and we had to flag someone down to finally order. The food was average to poor. The Fall salad wasn't really a salad, just a bunch of apples and dates in some sort of overly sweet sauce. The veal was full of fat and had very little meat. Very disappointing.
It is warm and friendly. Lighting is faltering. Service is excellent. The menu is interesting and creative. The ingredients must be local because they are so fresh. Excellent Valet service. Yes, we dine there often.
Good food. Very poor service. Not busy but waiter not attentive. Manager had no apologies. Won t go back
Good food and service in a lovely garden setting. Bottomless rose' is the way to go for brunch!
Visited Terrine with three others on a Saturday night. Outdoor patio is lovely, as other reviewers have stated. Not too noisy, even as the place filled up. Food was an interesting blend of Cal cuisine and French. All dishes were good to very good (none amazing although duck comes close), with apps and sides somewhat less interesting than the main dishes (it's often the other way around at relatively new restaurants). Service was okay - friendly, attentive, though a little distant. High marks for the consistency of the food, and the seamless blending of food styles. Chief complaint: wine mark-up was absurd. (And yes, that's the norm. But it is unfortunate - particularly with a wine list that is the least adventurous aspect of this place). Chef is butter friendly in a big way. Despite the small criticisms, I would recommend and return. It's laid back, less crazed than similarly priced restaurants in the area, and not at all pretentious. Less of a foody crowd than you might find at Lucques or Republique.
My husband and I love Terrine and we go there in our date nights. The food and drinks are great, the service is friendly yet casual and the patio is beautiful. It always deliver and we have a great time!
Great food, great service, great atmosphere. One of my favorite new brunch spots in LA!
Fantastic food and wine! I went with girlfriends and we had a wonderful dinner on the beautiful patio! I will go back very soon!
Good weekday happy hour including oysters! Great food and one of the best patios in LA
Nice patio in the back.. interesting items on the menu. overall good resturant
The lack of an adequate welcome followed by a lengthy wait for the hostess started the evening off on the wrong foot. Service was pleasant though slow and the kitchen was indifferent. Lovely ambience inside, cool and pleasant. It seemed badly managed though promising. For $160 for two without wine or alcoholic beverages, I would take my dining dollars elsewhere.
Waited an hour for our meal and restaurant was empty! My daughters egg dish was hard and overlooked-my smoked salmon was hard pieces of salmon jerky. Extremely disappointed but was happy that owner took off the entrees from our bill
The patio at this restaurant is spectacular. One of the reasons why we came back!
Our hostess was very gracious and gave us a table in the patio (which we did request two days earlier in our reservation) but we were told when we came to the restaurant it was not a guarantee. This was our second time at the restaurant, celebrating the end of summer with some good friends. The food was very good. Two of us had the fish and chips (very refined!), and others had the steak frites, and the chicken. Both good. But the service was very poor. In defense it was a beautiful, warm, Saturday night, and their patio was full. But one would hope that management would understand that, and staff for it. Incredibly long waits just to get the menus, once seated. Then similar very long waits to place a drink order, then appetizer, then main menu order. No one stopped by to see if we needed anything between courses (drinks, etc), and for dessert no one check to see if we wanted coffee, etc. The service was so poor that I doubt that we will go back. A shame since the atmosphere on the patio is so great.
Everything was very salty
I gathered some friends here for my 42nd birthday and it was perfect. I'm so glad they blessed us with an awesome table on the patio. We tried just about everything on the menu (or at least it felt like it) and my guests kept saying what an amazing meal it was. You don't always get ambiance AND great food in LA but this place for sure has both.
