Tavern on Kruse
When Governor Brown made the decision to shut down all restaurants on March 17th, we decided to go out on March 16th and have our "last meal" at a local restaurant to show our support. We chose Tavern on Kruse because of the heartfelt, well written and thoughtful email owner, Kent, sent out the week before.
Our "last meal" was fantastic as we knew it would be! My son loved the garlic-y Caesar salad, Tavern's brussels sprouts are the best (love the green goddess sauce) and all of our entrees were top notch! Halibut fish & chips - great crunch on the batter, not greasy and can't get enough of the garlic rosemary fries! Short rib chop - fall off the bone tender, full of flavor! Duck Carbonara - light, delicate carbonara sauce, perfectly cooked duck. Topped it all off with house made vanilla ice cream and apple cobbler!
Tavern on Kruse is now offering a "take-home-and-finish-cooking" option (go to their website for a better description) for those who can afford to do take out during this time. For every take out order, they will donate a meal to someone who needs it. If you can, please support their efforts!
Good experience. Much better for their ‘pub grub’ type of dishes versus their more expensive entrees. The fish & chips & fried chicken dishes were very good - their scallop dish not very good...
We’ll go back - a fun bar scene.
We were there on a Saturday night which happens to be their jazz night, it was lovely and entertaining. The five course tasting menu was perfect. This place is a gem.
Butternut squash egg white omelette was very good! We went with feta since I don’t like bleu cheese...was perfect.
Delicious Salad, I ventured out of my sandwich comfort zone, the Salad was great, the sandwiches are always good. Haven't had anything here I did not like. Service was great, very clean, great place
Tavern on Kruse is always my go to place to take new employees for lunch. Always good service. It's convenient to be able to make a reservation by using email, OpenTable, especially if the restaurant hasn't opened yet. Thank you!
Seating for res was a bit late but we were compensated with some complementary drinks while we waited, which really made up for it. Food was great. Service was remarkable.
About time for a menu update.. Most items are good but selection is pretty limited, and most of the selections have been on the menu from day one opening..
Funny you should mention it... Our Winter menu overhaul launches next Monday!
We ordered one grilled prawn & scallop, prawn was burned. Also ordered Lake Oswego steaks, steak also too much burned
Drinks were good
This was our second visit for brunch. Both times it was tough choosing between the delicious menu options. The crab cake Benedict was amazing. They make a mean Bloody Mary too! We ate in the bar both times and enjoyed the ambiance.
Excellent service and delicious food. Great wine list as well. Low light ambiance with intimate seating.
Marinated flat iron steak was amazing!!!
We had our annual (adult) siblings dinner there. Perfect spot! Fantastic food, delicious drinks, great service.
The service was very slow and not helpful.
Hi there Anonymous. Dec 23rd was truly our busiest day in history and, of course, we had one of our servers call out sick. I'm glad the food was great and I apologize to you and anyone else on the 23rd for us being overwhelmed. Sorry things weren't as you or I hoped.
Excellent music along with the other 5 Stars that I gave with the revue.
The ambiance here is terrific. We've dined here several times and had repeatedly good service and food.
First time dining at Tavern on Kruse. Great location, atmosphere. Our waiter was fantastic in service and suggesting starters for our party of 8. Highly recommend.
Great food and service!
One of my favorite places to eat & I'm super picky!
Really nice restaurant! Excellent food! Would have liked our server coming to our table a bit more after we were done with our meal. We had to go and ask for our check. Nothing big...we will definitely go back!!
We're regulars. The drinks are always good, great beers and wine list. The food never disappoints. It tends to be a bit heavy but always delicious and very good value. The prices are very good for what you get. Parking is easy and never a lot wait. Outdoor seating in the summer is awesome.
Service was great!! We were so happy to be able to get a great meal on Thanksgiving.
I love Tavern on Kruse and am so glad they are open for brunch now. Great spot to meet girlfriends for Sunday Brunch or happy hour after work!
This was a truly horrible experience. I brought 7 people to a dinner here, arriving at 5:15 on a Wednesday night. One person had to leave by 6:30, so when the waiter arrived to take drink orders I politely asked him to take meal orders as well. He grumpily and steadfastly refused to do so. It took him over 20 MINUTES to get the drinks to our table, and then he finally slowly took orders. There was an outdated menu at our table, and--being a vegetarian--I asked if I could order the type of ravioli (onion/chevre) on the old menu instead of the new menu (butternut squash)--he then brusquely replied with a scowl--ABSOLUTELY NOT! The meals were not served until 6:20 (!!), forcing the member of my marty who had to leave early to gulp down her meal before leaving. I ordered mac-and-cheese instead, and it was bland and tasteless. When the bill came, another member of my party paid it, and the truly awful waiter explained to her--not me (who by that time was very angry)--that he had been handling happy hour as well as our table. That does NOT justify the rudeness and the refusal to take meal orders right away. I will never be returning to this restaurant ever again!
Bob: I cornered Server Grumpy (a top server) on this. He recounted your dialogue verbatim then implored me to review surveillance video. Your entire timeline; e.g. drink order taken 5:36:12 & delivered 5:45:23 = 9min vs. 20), was all inaccurate. I get 500 characters to try to make a difference, so here goes: Your vindictive story above ranges from grossly inaccurate to preposterous ("ABSOLUTELY NOT!"). Your guests all left thrilled and on time. Ask yourself why you were the exception. Good luck.
I have food allergies so dining out can be difficult but there are options for me and the staff is super helpful and no attitude. Thanks for a terrific meal
Birthday celebration. Loud , busy & slow service. Waiter was friendly but over worked. After had a cocktail in bar and it took forever to get service. This was on a TUESDAY 4-8pm
The restaurant ceased to offer my favorite vegetarian entree option--the Wild Mushroom Chevre ravioli--and instead replaced it with the far less desirable squash ravioli....
The food was great. Our waitress we nice and attentive.
Food was very good. The best crab and artichoke dip I've had anywhere. Great garlic rosemary fries. Service was very good.
Only complaint - there were six of us and the server did not tell me that the gratuity was already added - that would have been helpful. I added another 20% on top
Great food but they were out of several items which was a tad difficult with our group of seven but we made do. It’s always a bit loud in there and cold. Service is very good.
This was my first time at Tavern on Kruse, and I brought with me an entire search committee evaluating a candidate for a permanent position at our institution. We were under a severe time crunch. I was truly amazed at the quality and speed of the service, and the food was absolutely fantastic!!!!
We are coming back as a group two more times with two other candidates for the open position, and I cannot wait!!!! I had the wild mushroom chevre ravioli and will certainly order it again!
We loved the Greg Goebel Trio ... ! The service and food was good.. please bring back onion rings!
Consistently excellent food and service.
Always great food and excellent service!
I had not visited Tavern on Kruse for some time. I was surprised to find that my party was seated in a curtained area with approximately six tables that is entirely separated from the remaining 80 percent of the restaurant. Why the owners think anyone wants to sit in a cloth box is beyond me, but I found the arrangement to be very uncomfortable.
My Cuban sandwich was very large and very messy, so I had to eat it with a fork and knife. Otherwise it was tasty, if a bit bread forward. I was not offered a refill on my fountain drink until the very end of the meal. Perhaps service suffered because we were seated in the curtained box?
Visiting from NY and we Enjoyed an amazing brunch. The cinnamon bun was ridiculous. I loved the roasted potatoes with my omelette.
Always enjoy this place for breakfast. I seem to always order the frittata and especially love the potatoes that come with it. It is nice to have a local breakfast option that has good food and atmosphere without the long wait. Highly recommend.
Wonderful server, two great seafood dishes well prepared and fresh fish!
Best breakfast ever!!! Many unique and amazing items to choose from. Delicious and very reasonably priced. Use opentable to make a reservation and avoid typical Sunday Brunch lines.
Loved the fresh, local, innovative menu. Great staff and beautiful environment.
