Loved the space but the food was severely lacking. Chose the breakfast burrito and the tortilla was so hard and dry (trouble even sawing back and forth with knife). The contents were dry and tasteless. What it needed at a minimum was some salsa to moisten the whole thing, and maybe I could have choked more than a few bites down. Also, the service was nonexistent and our food took forever.
The ambiance was nice, our appetizers were nice, but the dinner we received was not worth the price in my opinion. I ordered the fried chicken, and it came out burnt, the sides that came with it were similar quality to what you’d find at a grocery store deli.
It was our first time and our great surprise there was a live band playing jazz. The reservation on time and we didn’t have to wait one minute. Service was great and the food was excellent. It didn’t disappoint one bit. We will return.
My favorite Portland hamburger! The patio seating was comfortable, and the service fantastic as always.
The food was excellent but the service was not. Server was ok at first but then became distracted with a table that was buying lots of wine. She may have known them because she spent 10 minutes talking to them and ignoring other tables. She threw the dessert menu on our table with no explanation and walked away.
Our occasion was dear friends that had not connected in a long time, getting together for dinner, a baby on the way and a birthday. Our table was in the perfect spot outside, the live music was a terrific added bonus, the staff/our server were all knowledgeable, charming and lovely. The food was delicious. We had rack of lamb, crab dip and the charcuterie board. And the bread pudding to finish was amazing! The wine selection was also terrific. Kent knows exactly what he’s doing, and we were so thrilled to spend our evening there! We’re coming back soon…I’m now craving the fried chicken with honey dish! 🥂🌟
Food and menu needs to be updated! Very boring!
Wonderful experience. Attentive wait staff. Food was excellent, drinks were fun. Thanks for the anniversary bubbles on the house!
We’ve been going to Tavern on Kruse for a few years now. This was my first experience having lunch though. I ordered the ahi Niçoise salad and although it was good, it wasn’t great and for almost $19 was kind of a rip off. Very small with almost no hint of olive tapenade or any other nitride that in a Niçoise salad. It took a long time to get refills on iced tea which really doesn’t make much sense. I understand our server had to leave early due to an emergency so someone else was taking over for her so I get that she had extra tables to take care of too. Hopefully next time will be better 😊
Such a lovely restaurant!
Food is amazing, service very pleasant and attentive, love the garage door windows that open to give the whole place an outdoor, open feeling!
And an amazing plus!! Live music!!
Such a great experience!!
We went for brunch on Sunday. When we ordered they were out of two things that my husband wanted to order and came back to me and told me they were also out of sausage. When we got our food my meal was incorrect and completely different menu item than I ordered. I was starving as I ate it without complaint. It was just a standard tavern breakfast so it was good. My daughter ordered a cheeseburger and her bun was very burnt. My mom ordered the salad and her chicken was very dry and she didn’t eat it. Overall this is far from the experience we normally have at Tavern on Kruse. Disappointed on our Sunday brunch experience nce.
The food was awesome and great Atmosphere
Food is good, service is good, however, consistently disappointed in portion size. We've been several times and the portions are too small for the price - specific examples are the hangar steak and the prawns. Very small portions.
Food and drinks were great. We went at 6pm and it was too early to open the doors on the garage side so it was very hot inside.
My wife's meal had toasted bread that was so hard you could not cut with a steak knife. My potatoes were over cooked and dry. Service was good and manager comp'd bad meal and provided desert. Have had much better meals previously.
Nice evening with Friends. There was live music on Friday which made for a nice ambiance The Cheese Torte appetizer is off the hook! A must have. Cocktails and liquor selections were great.
Beautiful outdoor setting with live, quiet music. Food was tasty. Service was absolutely horrendous! Hope it improves.
Mediocre food; batter on the chicken was wet. Hanger steak was so-so. Decent service. Seems like a great premise but food and menu offerings hinder the execution. Not likely to return given the discrepancy between cost and delivery.
The food was amazing, the service was amazing!! The host was able to accommodate more people who joined later!!! Thank you to the owners GREAT PLACE Shelly Rudolph is AMAZING!!!
Great tasting food reasonably priced. Best ambience I've experienced for a tavern.
The flavors of the food were amazing and the service was perfect. Just the right amount of attention without being annoying.
Impressive décor and good menu. Will return. The service was also very good.
My wife’s birthday celebration. Our waiter was not very attentive (though other waiters appeared to be more attentive to their tables). The music was too loud for a relaxing dinner...was more like a nightclub atmosphere. The salmon was overcooked and the skirt steak was undercooked. We purchased cocktails prior to dinner and was still charged a $20 corkage fee for a special bottle of wine we bought along. Needless to say it wasn’t quite the experience we were hoping for. Maybe it was just an off night and we had set our expectations too high. At $175 bucks for four of us I think we should of had a much more enjoyable experience.
Sat at high top table in middle of dinning room. Food was great was soft jass band playing.
The location, food and service were all perfect! The patio was a perfect location for lunch. I look forward to dining here again.
This is our go to place - the service is always amazing, the food is incredible, they have great music (live and in the background) and the price is reasonable. We love brunch the most !
Great place for a casual bite to eat that offers outstanding choices. Our service was outstanding by the wait staff. Will be back again!
Drinks were terrible, order was incorrect, had to wait for a long time after seated to even see a server, even with a reservation, and it wasn't even busy. Food was mediocre. So many better places to eat, do not waste your time.
This was my 2nd visit to Tavern on Kruse as it was shortly after they opened when I first visited and had hoped they worked the kinks out on their service. Service was much better this time but the lamb was disappointing in particular for a birthday dinner. Lacked flavor on the lamb and vegie was fava beans and fingerling potatoes which also lacked flavor. My salad had spicy nuts which initially tasted good but brought me to tears and coughing in about 15 seconds. Very heavy handed on the heat for a salad. Finally, a birthday dessert which we chose the chocolate mousse...again, never had a mousse that wasn't good but pastry chef needs some work. My two other guests had burgers which were good so not a complete loss but for the birthday girl that's my last trip to Tavern on Kruse, sadly.
Live music on Wednesday was great! Food was good however a salad was ordered that has 4 ingredients and kitchen was out of 1 ingredient and no substitutes were offered or provided.
Enjoyed our lunch at Tavern on Kruse
Perfect setting for a birthday celebration
This restaurants staff is unprofessional they walk around like chickens with their heads cut off not knowing what they are doing and ignoring their customers!!! The manager was terrible.
We've been to the Tavern several times; this was a visit with another couple on a Sunday evening. I find the food pretty consistently good, but not outstanding. On this evening I had a side salad, hanger steak and fries. They were just fine. My wife had the Ahi tuna burger. The fish piece was on the large side, but the fried avocado on top may have been a little overkill. Sometimes simpler is better. Our cocktails were good, though my friend's gin martini came with a lime, though he asked for lemon peel. The bottle of wine I brought was served for the standard $20 corkage fee.
As they often do they had live jazz outside on their nice patio where we ate this evening. While not my favorite music type, it's a nice touch. However, seated fairly near the stage the volume made communicating with our companions a little difficult.
Loved this restaurant. Excellent food, fabulous setting, great service!
This place is always good!
We had a wonderful impromptu evening out. Reservations were easy and what a nice treat to have live music and dine on the patio. The food was delish and all the patrons were friendly. We will be back!
Friends raved about this place so we were excited to book a table outside. Nowhere on the website did it mention there would be concert with a singer belting out songs at high volume right by our table. It was so loud we could not converse. Plus, on our bill we were asked to tip the band! Caesar salad lacked flavor. Steamed clam chowder was OK. Other food was just OK. Our server knew what he was doing but had to wait on tables inside and outside the restaurant. Other helper servers didn't know who ordered what. Bar service was slow. Not worth it.
Great service, tasty food and comfortable outdoor dining. A birthday celebration for two in party and they were very pleased with the entire experience.
Best brunch I have had in years!! Cajun egg Benedict’s, smashed golden potatoes, great Bloody Mary!!
