I love Taverna Tapas. Great food, service and ambiance!!
Food quality was quite good. General service was good, but getting a drink from the bar was nearly impossible. It was a Monday night with not much business at 8:00pm. We ordered drinks first (a beer on tap and an old fashion) before ordering food and had finished our first tapas BEFORE getting our drinks, and after asking several times. The second drink order was 10-12 minutes plus a conversation with the manager. I can't imagine how long this would have taken if they were busy. At least Dan the manager was classy and comped us two dishes and took our criticism sincerely.
Great food! Lamb Chops are a must!
Our server, Crystal, was awesome! Service was excellent and food was delicious.
Server was very friendly and helpful. We shared tapas and salad. Salmon and roasted Brussels sprouts were especially good.
Food was pretty good, service was friendly but slow, despite it being a slow night. Forgot a couple of dishes we ordered which made it take longer.
Thoroughly enjoyed Taberna Tapas for lunch during Restaurant Week. My friend and I enjoyed:
- Brussel Sprout were GREAT (main menu)
- Salmon (main menu) which had a great topping with fresh avocado
- Mussels (main menu): lunch date said they were GREAT
- Ostras Ensalada (TRW menu): GREAT
- Atun con Pisto: GREAT- tuna was cooked perfectly!
- Escabecha- would have been another GREAT but had a little shell in it... heard my friend chomp down and got nervous. However, it was so good, that I took my chances...
Dinner was fantastic! Really enjoyed the triangle restaurant week special menu! Tried things I normally don't. The place was packed with triangle restaurant week and a show at DPAC so service was a little slower than usual. Fortunately we were not in a hurry! Overall it was a great dining experience and would definitely be back. Plus it's half price bottles of wine on Wednesdays and they have a brilliant wine selection!
For some reason, the kitchen had a kink. Several tapas were delivered timely and then nothing happened for anyone for nearly half an hour for any of the tables. Not clear why. We were in no real hurry, but it was a little odd.
Maybe they were just having an off night, because I have heard lots of good things about this place from people who know about good food and service. The food was okay, nothing really spectacular. Perhaps we would have enjoyed it more had we been able to relax and enjoy the different dishes.
We had an 8 p.m. reservation and got there at about 10 after. The server basically said, "let's get your order in because I'm going to be out of here by 9" and tapped her watch.
We kind of joked, oh okay, we don't want to keep you here longer or inconvenience you, haha, and she didn't seem to get the joke or the fact that we were being sarcastic. Anyway, it wasn't a very warm reception, we felt very rushed and so we had one glass of wine (server did not check back to see if we wanted a second) ate quickly, paid the tab, which was not cheap (and that's fine, we're not cheap either), and left. Like I said, maybe it was just an off night but unfortunately the takeaway from it was underwhelming.
Can’t wait to dine here again....
Delicious tapas and authentic Spanish foods. Service was very quick before it got crowded, then it slowed down as the kitchen got busy. A little on the expensive side for a full meal, but worth a splurge.
Delightful favorite of ours! New menu offers expanded choices with old favs still available. Great location for my birthday lunch with a close friend to catch up on life!
Amazing paella!! Best in the area. The wine suggested by the server was excellent!
Great food. Food orders served quickly. Very efficient and friendly staff.
My husband and I met up with a friend and the three of us shared tapas plates and had drinks. The noise level at first was incredibly loud, but as people headed to DPAC (or whatever emptied the place), it got better. The food options were interesting and appeared to be authentic, at least they looked similar to dishes we saw in Spain. The beer selection was surprisingly limited, especially considering the local brewery offerings. We did, however, enjoy the vermut and sherry options to end the meal.
Usually we enjoy this restaurant, however last time I service was terrible. Both our appetizers were forgotten. They were brought at the end and comped. Food was good as usual.
All four times we've been there they've been unable to receive our bar drinks in anything close to a timely manner. They are very apologetic, but nothing has changed in five months. Literally, we order drinks, peruse the menu, ask where our drinks are, order our food, and receive our food before our drinks are up. It really undermines an otherwise nice experience.
The food was excellent and the server was nice, but the bar was slow and it took a long time to get our drinks.
This wasn’t first time there, but unfortunately won’t be my first choice in downtown Durham. Restaurant wasn’t full, but the drinks took forever, and either the kitchen or server forgot part of our order and overall, the food just wasn’t as tasty as I remembered. Couldn’t believe they put mayonaise on the bread with jamon and manchego!! That was not a true tapa from Spain. Hope things will improve.
Food was excellent. Service was great. Great place for a business dinner or gathering of friends!
Reservation was at 6:30 on a Monday. It took over 20 minutes to get our drinks. By 7:20 there was no food so we canceled the order and left (we were seeing a show at 8). Staff was apologetic but provided no reasoning. It did seem like this was not normal.
We were there for an hour and 15 minutes. One of us got all of their order in 5 minutes. The other didn’t get their food for an hour and then the wrong food. Terrible.
It was Mother’s day and also our anniversary.
Love this place! The food is fantastic! Will go back again.
Fabulous food, beautiful restaurant, great location, great service. When my family and I went on a Friday night, though, it was so loud that we had a hard time hearing ourselves talk at our own table, more like a nightclub than a restaurant. Otherwise, super and would definitely recommend.
Dosty was amazing, drinks and food were amazing as always.. Melissa (Missy) looked beautiful tonight. Will return and recommend..
The Germaine in Main cocktail is my new favorite. Will be back for that again!
The food was good overall. My friend enjoyed the empanadas. The pollo paella was flavorful, but not the best I have ever had (being from Miami originally!). I also enjoyed the Brussel sprouts while my friend felt they were over-salted. I was pleased by the variety of gluten free and other options for those of us with food allergies and intolerances (although a dessert option would be nice). The service was great. Our server was attentive, and kind and the atmosphere was welcoming. The only issue I would raise on the environment is that it was rather warm inside the dining area. Apparently, the air conditioning was not working effectively. Otherwise, one of the better dining experiences I have had in the Durham area. I would return and recommend to friends.
The food was incredible, everything!
Waitress was awesome. Her recommendations were on point. She checked on us without hovering or rushing us. Engaged with us & everything we ordered came out in a timely manner, & was delicious! Highly recommended!
Great selection of tapas and small plates, all good. Beverage selection is also great. Service is friendly and efficient.
Wonderful food selection, beautifully prepared and very tasty; nice specialty cocktail menu and a by the glass selection of wines; service attentive but not intrusive
The only negative comment about our dining experience was that it was uncomfortably warm in the restaurant...I was literally sweating by the time we left.
Delicioso! Didn’t bring the appetizer we ordered, but were quick to remedy, and we were allowed to keep the wrong one, and the right one came quickly. Attentive staff.
Great food and variety, friendly service, and a place where you can actually hear the conversation you’re having with your table!
Good and service were excellent! I would not sit outside again as a vagabond cased our table and inevitably tried to steal my friends purse. We will go back but we will sit inside.
Great location, food selection and prices. The food arrived very quickly and the attention by the servers was very good.
I love Tabera Tapas, and it was my choice for a birthday dinner. We all had a great time, and the food was, as always, delicious!
First time there and although the tapas were tasty, the cheese tray was kind of stale, the server was overly busy and the bar was terribly slow with an 86 on certain wines and all beers. I wouldn’t go again with all of the other nice restaurants in Durham.
