    We really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Our waitress was very good and efficient but incredibly busy and we did have to wait a while to pay our bill and to get our food ordered. Otherwise, it was a great way to celebrate our anniversary!

    Wonderful place- great food and Sigi made it special! Highly recommend treating yourself to Swiss Chalet when visiting. We also dressed for the occasion since it was the night before Octoberfest!

    What a great evening! The cheese and meat fondues plus the chocolate fondue were excellent, and we had so much fun eating and laughing. It had been years since we’d been there, and we don’t wait that long to return.

    We had the most amazing meal and service was 5 star. Mark was very helpful with his recommendations and wine selection. One of our favorite nights of our honeymoon so far! Swiss Chalet is a MUST every trip!

    The food quality was poor. The salad was supposed to contain nuts but they forgot those. When we told the waitress she brought a cup of nuts but it was after we had finished our salads. The fondue was so full of alcohol that wasn’t cooked through that you couldn’t taste the cheese. We sent it back and they added more cheese and it was a little better. The chocolate fondue desert was good.

    Another legend busted. We always loved this Alpine-inspired restaurant and made sure to visit it every time we came to Vail for the dance festival. We arrived one hour earlier than our reservation. The restaurant was fairly empty, but the hostess refused to seat us, claiming that they were saving tables for other reservations. We came back an hour later for our scheduled reservation, and the restaurant was still half full. This was not a good start. I ordered a Veal cutlet and Rosti. My husband ordered breaded chicken cutlet which came with pasta. Our faces dropped when the food was brought to the table. Both the veal cutlet and the chicken cutlet looked over-fried and they were both tough and chewy. The rosti was not cooked through and the center was raw. We complained about our dinners. We also heard the table next to ours complaining that their veal cutlet was tough. We will never dine here again.

    Atmosphere terrific. Service is friendly and helpful. Food was good, yet we were told we had to be careful to steer clear of possible MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) in some offerings which is a negative at a restaurant in this age of fresh, pure, ingredients. The schnitzel was tasty, Fondue was fun. The kids said the spaghetti was good, but wish it came with a meatball.

    We enjoyed our dinner at Swiss Chalet. Good cocktails; expensive wine list. The main draw seemed to be various fondu options and the menu for more traditional meals (which we had) was limited, but tasty (wienerschnitzel, chicken piccata, etc). The waitstaff (dressed in dirndl dresses) seemed to be constantly hurrying from one place to another, so much so that I imagined they must be short staffed. But we realized it is summer in Vail... perhaps the winter is different. We appreciated their efforts! I was rather surprised to see the hostess sweeping the floor as diners left, but there were a number of families with children, so perhaps it was necessary. Just not what you would normally see in sucn a nice restaurant.

    I don’t get it. Someone please help me understand why this place is so popular. The cheese smelled and tasted like stinky socks. The bread was stale. The beef was a quality I would feed my dog. The texture of the sausage platter was like a Vienna sausage. I just can’t understand why folks pay what they do to dine here when there are so many stellar restaurants in Vail. Heading for a second dinner post our meal there.

    The service was great. The food was ok. Escargot was bleh, the dumplings were just Mac and cheese and the schnitzel was dry. They were very sweet to send chocolate covered strawberries for our Anniversary.

    We have been going to Swiss Chalet since they opened. It’s a favorite of our kids who are now in their 20’s. Over the years the quality has gone down and the prices, with the rest of restaurants in Vail, ridiculously high. The alpine cheese fondue for two people is now $74! If you have a hankering for typical Swiss fondue, racqulette and other typical Swiss/Austrian fare then Swiss Chalet is the go to in Vail. But be warned the value/quality of the food for the cost is way off!

    I was staying at the Sonnenalp, so we had to try the Swiss Chalet. I was a bit worried my kids, although teenaged, they can be finicky at times, might not find anything they liked on the menu, but they wanted to try it out. Worth noting, if you are not a huge cheese fan, a real cheese fan, you may want to eat outdoors. They serve a decadent cheese fondue, but it has quite a pungent aroma, so if that's not your thing, it can hit you in the face as soon as you enter the restaurant. My daughter was not into that, so we dined al fresco, and of course Colorado in the summer, that was delightful. We asked the waiter's suggestions for people who aren't familiar with the menu, and he gave us three strong contenders. We ordered all three, and ended up splitting, (fighting over) all three of them. One was the WIENER SCHNITZEL VOM KALB, the PFEFFERSTEAK, and the ZÜRICHER GESCHNETZELTES. Absolutely delicious, they also start you off with a basket of soft pretzel bread. So yes, the food was superb, and we were so pleased we gave it a try. We ended with the dark chocolate fondue dessert. Also delicious but a little light on dipping items versus actual fondue. I only gave them 4 stars for service because it was a little disjointed and hard to get someone when we would sit without drinks for awhile, etc. But that aside, I would definitely go back. Expect to spend at least $200 plus for a good dinner here.

    We had heard a lot of positive things about this restaurant and booked a reservation weeks in advance. It was meant to be our kids’ first fondue experience (special treat during our family vacation in Vail). When we arrived at the restaurant we were immediately overwhelmed with a staunch pungent smell that consumed the entire dining room. We were seated inside and within minutes we wanted to leave. Fortunately there was an open table outside that we moved to with the hope that the food and dining experience would outweigh the stench in the restaurant. Unfortunately our experience only got worse. The service staff explained we would need two orders of cheese fondue for a party of 5. The pots of cheese came out in a smelly bubbly mass and the vegetables were severely over cooked/seasoned. Our family tried the vegetables but decided that the stale complimentary bread was the only part of the meal worth eating. When it came to the entrees we were told to order all the raw proteins and that they would be a good pairing for the cheese fondue. When the oil arrived, the staff almost spilled it across the table and when he placed it on the table, it unevenly straddled 2 tables. As he tried to light the burner we had to tell him to stop because the oil was going to spill. Ultimately the oil was heated but the accompanying raw food and vegetables were low quality and underwhelming. We cooked and ate less than a quarter of the food and within minutes we were ready to leave. At that point the wait staff encouraged us to take home the raw meat for future consumption. We declined and requested the check so we could leave as quickly as possible. When the wait staff brought the check we were excited to leave but extremely discouraged by the size of the bill. Almost $500 (automatic gratuity included) for 5 people. We paid the bill and left to find some more food to eat since we barely ate anything at the restaurant. Overall a terrible experience we wish we could undo

    Absolutely one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. The wine selection is superb. The steak tartare was perfection and the filet was out of this world. Our server, Martin, was knowledgeable , experienced and attentive, which is becoming harder and harder to find. Can’t wait to visit again.

    We’ve been going to this restaurant for many years. The food is good and the service is excellent. The prices on the food have increased measurably, but the real shock is that the wine prices have gotten totally out of reason. Takes the fun out of exploring wines the offer and discourages return visits.
