Situated directly on the St. Charles streetcar line (stop number 24), on the corner of St. Charles and Napoleon Avenues, the restaurant offers a front row seat to all the beautiful sights and sounds New Orleans has to offer. The menu offers something for every taste, with items ranging from po-boys to seared scallops, and many in between.
Very popular location on St. Charles Ave. There was a live piano performer but the noise level was so high it was hard to hear him. The service was excellent. We were greeted as soon as we entered and called to our table before we expected it to be ready. The menu is varied. We ordered an appetizer of the grilled oysters. They were OK, could have used more butter sauce. My Entree was the fish almondine, speckled trout. I found it cooked a little dry. Would have preferred it to be a little less cooked. Dessert was OK - a very large piece of carrot cake about 6 in a square with cream cheese icing. I would have preferred more icing on the cake. The cake was warm which was a nice touch. Overall I will be going back to try other things but compared to other New Orleans restaurants it was just OK.
Great food and good service. The only issue we had is they had someone playing the piano right next to the bar who was singing and it was loud. It made everyone else talk at a high level so the noise was high enough you could not have reasonable conservation with the person sitting next to you. I have been a few times the last couple weeks (not on Friday) and this wasn't an issue
Wonderful romantic lunch date with hubby.
The food was delicious and our waitress was great; however the kitchen and bar service was a bit slow and disorganized. Our drinks took forever to come out . We ordered grilled and raw oysters which came out at separate times so those who didn’t want grilled had to watch while the others ate until the raw order came out which wasn’t until the grilled had been consumed . Also, salads and soups came at separate times for the table so no one was eating at the same time. The entrees did make it out all together. The atmosphere was extremely loud and hot.
Great service & good food!
Being a regular and local is easy to write another great review! The service is always wonderful and the food outstanding.
Out of town family visiting
the food was amazing and the waitress we had was the sweetest person ever(she had pinkish hair can’t quite remeber her name) but overal it was wonderful.
Normally our experience at superior
Only our 2nd visit to Superior Seafood in the last 6 years. Our visit of long ago was disappointing, and so was our visit of yesterday.
We both ordered the grouper, which was overcooked to the point of being mushy with none of the firmness of a properly cooked grouper. The side dishes were OK, but nothing noteworthy. This was essentially a repeat of our experience of long ago.
We sat in the main dining area, which we found nice, but a bit noisy. Not a place for a quiet dinner. The bar scene was popular and lively.
We decided to give it more more try in a few weeks, but try to sit at the bar and stay away from fish and instead try the shellfish.
The food was timely and absolutely delicious! BEST PLACE EVER!!
Service was very slow at the start but everything else was excellent.
One of our favorites for the amazing oysters. Since COVID I’ve noticed most restaurants are struggling to get competent staff. Not here - Leslie D provided unparalleled service! We will be back and hope to get her as our server again!
Great fish!! excellent bar and a party atmosphere on St Charles!
Waitress was very considerate and knowledgeable
It was awesome. Great server and food
ordered alot of apps. all was bland. my fiancé ordered the flounder. definitely not what we expected. it looked like a porkchop, the potatoes looks instant and the spinach taste like it was straight out of a can. i ordered the risotto. I can taste the herbs which was a good thing but both of our plates did not look appetizing. the waiter also gave us the wrong bill. we didnt notice until we left. but overall I dont think we will return.
Everything was absolutely perfect! Five girlfriends for dinner. We had the watermelon salad (yummy), shrimp po boy, pasta and catch of the day. Great food, service, and our server Nathan was a gem!
Great food, but very slow service, crowded and extremely noisy - couldn’t hear table companion
Food was overcooked and dry
Like all restaurants, they are short staffed. The servers are going as hard as they can.
it was great! shoutout to our server nathan for recommending a great bottle of pinot noir
It was my anniversary and was advised when I made reservations that no special accommodations would be made on my behave. Waitress was rude and un-attentive. Food was not edible. Order 8oz filet med well...received a well done steak that would not cut through with a steak knife, then was advised there was no steak sauce in the entire restaurant. Overall experience to say this was my first and needless to say LAST visit to the ultimate OVERRATED Superior Seafood House on the prestigious St. Charles Avenue location was HORRIBLE.
The food was amazing. The main drawback was that it took a long time to get our appetizers and then our main entrees came before we could finish them. So we ended up giving up some of our appetizers to make room for our entree and didn’t get to enjoy them in their entirety.
Took my family here for Sunday brunch. Our waitress was great, super attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. The ambiance was chic. Food was yummy. Will be returning with friends to see what happy hour is about!
My wife and I were treated to dinner here back in December of 2013. Prior to July of 2021, we hadn't been to New Orleans since.
When booking our hotel room, it was pre-determined that we were INDEED going back to Superior Seafood and Oyster Bar. We specifically wanted the Char-grilled Oysters. We had them (for the first time ever) on our initial visit. They were everything (and more) we remembered.
The other thing which stood out: We made reservations for 8:00pm on a busy Saturday night. We arrived about 5 minutes prior to our reserved time. It took them all of 2 minutes to be seated. Our server was polite, attentive and kept a smile on her face, despite serving multiple tables.
To sum it all up. We enjoyed our second visit (probably) even more than our first. It was decided in the middle of our meals that we were eating at Superior Seafood the very next time we're in New Orleans.
Great job by everyone.
Food was delish. A lovely lunch.
My husband and I brought our kids here for lunch before hitting the aquarium. Service was amazing and the food was AMAZING!!
We ordered the starter, crawfish Mac-n-Cheese three times it was so good! The meal was awesome and we will return.
Extremely loud and noisy. Not relaxing at all. Best for groups. Food was just ok. Some of the grilled oysters were cold Shrimp salad was fair — over salted.
Efficient hostess stand and support staff
Superb … fresh oysters, great bbq shrimp, blackened catfish was awesome … very attentive staff … prefer to French Quarter restaurants
Very pleased! You can't beat the Early Bird 75 cents per oyster special. The oysters were big and delicious. Our server was polite and knowledgeable of the menu and specials. We will definitely return to this spot when we return to New Orleans. Also check out the bar next door, Fat Harry's.
Service was VERY slow. It was only 2 of us. We were there 45 minutes before we even got our appetizer which was the chargrilled oysters that could’ve been cooked a little longer. Also, we put our meal order in the same time we ordered the appetizer and the server still had to come back after all that time to retake our meal order. So what was being done that whole time we were just sitting and waiting? Also, the food was unusually bland. So different for this restaurant out of all the times we’ve been. And please try to control the flies there were a few flying around and bothering us the entire 2 hours we were there (deep sigh). Superior used to be my favorite restaurant and is usually my go to for referrals but I see this will definitely be changing.
Service was slow, slow, slow..... No drink refills, no condiments. Entries are very small for price.
Absolutely love this place! Food was amazing!!! Ordered several apps- oyster trio was phenomenal, crawfish croquettes so yummy, shrimp with bacon and flounder very tasty!!!! Service was great, thank you Hannah! Music by piano, had a great time!!! Highly recommend!
I'm a loyal patron, but I wouldn't order the Steak Salad again.
Love Superior Seafood. Always always great
I ordered Shrimp and grits and the grits were not fully cooked
Grilled chicken with potatoes- chicken was overcooked
Waitress was not hospitable
