The service was great! Our first course was wonderful, Spicy Big Eye Tuna Tartare Cones and Agnolotti with brown butter. The second course of lobster and corn chowder and buratta with grapefruit were both very good. Our entrees were significantly less impressive, homemade pasta with squid and lobster and a Steak entree. The pasta was very al dente with very little lobster and the steak was undercooked and the potatoes that accompanied were indelible. We could’ve stopped by the second course and been happy.
Service was awful and slow. The waiter seemed as though he didn’t want to be there. However seemed to pander to people that seemed more wealthy. The food is average. The place is way more expensive for the quality of food that was served. Very cold in the restaurant which is outside and the we were not able to move tables. Wolfgang puck showed up which was nice.
Everything expected of a great restaurant. Can’t wait to return. Thank you
We were very excited to try Spago, but the experience did not live up to our expectations.
First, the positives: nice atmosphere, comfortable seats, and good cocktails. The highlight of the evening was our waiter, though. He went above and beyond to ensure we had a good experience. He's the main reason why my rating is not lower.
Now the issues: I had called the restaurant to ask for the tasting menu for that evening and the hostess said that it was still available and made a note on my reservation. Of course, once we got to the restaurant they informed us that there was no such note and that we couldn't get the tasting menu as the kitchen was busy. This was the first disappointment as we were looking forward to the full Spago experience.
The second disappointment was the food. We got the wagyu tartare, the grilled octopus, the salmon pizza, and the schnitzel. The first two were somewhat ok, but the biggest disappointments were the other two as they're supposedly the signature dishes. I had the most amazing thin, crunchy salmon pizza at Akira Back's Lumi. This in comparison was honestly just bread with cream cheese and salmon. The crust was too thick and the salmon was overpowering. The schnitzel was an even bigger disappointment. Was it terrible? No. Was it what you'd expect from a place like Spago? Definitely not! Being from Europe, I had a lot of schnitzels in my life and I can tell you that the schnitzel you get at any Austrian ski resort is 10 times better. The one at Spago was definitely a miss: the breading was falling off the meat and it was a bit soggy. It also looked quite white meaning that it wasn't cooked enough.
I would like to try the tasting menu, but given last night's experience, I will probably not go back to Spago.
LOVE the new dining pavilion! Hope it will be permanent.
the food was pretty good, but the ambiance and service failed me. one of the waiters described a dish as “a halibut with … citrus… juice… yah”, and service took way too long with unnecessarily long breaks in between that I has to ask them to speed up. the classic days of pre-covid seems to be gone and replaced with a non-classy, almost “pop” or “hippy” restaurant filled with loud, unnecessary music. in terms of the service, once again, it was quite lacking as some of the servers kept dropping glasses or plates, shattering some too.
We went in for our graduation dinner and are extremely happy with the choice. Chef Jake from WPC is always amazing and his friends at Spago helped us out and sent over their best recommendations. Drinks are delicious and food is to die for
Highlight was Chef Puck making rounds and stopping at our table! Very appreciative of his time. Overall, service was very good. Thank you!
Had an absolute awesome experience. The service was excellent. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary and they put roses on our table before we sat. Doug was our server, not only was he incredibly nice, but he gave excellent service. Props also to Jorge our busser as well, he was great. Coming back every year!
Our server, Rio, was super attentive and kind! The food was excellent and felt safe every moment. The outdoor patio was the perfect temperature too!
We have dined at this restaurant many times, and the food has always been spectacular. It was not this time. I would blame it on Covid I suppose. We ordered our steak rare, it arrived well done. I ordered pasta with crab and lobster and could only detect two or three pieces of any seafood. A very small portion, as well. The service could not have been better. The ambience was spectacular as usual even though the dining area was relocated to a tent and not in the typical dining room.
We came here for our 30th Anniversary and had absolutely no acknowledgement even though The Peninsula Hotel reached out to them in advance. The food was just ok. Not like the original one on Sunset Blvd. I guess we will have to go somewhere else to celebrate since this place doesn’t care about there special guests.
Special Birthday, but did not have the dessert we wanted. Had to settle for third choice.
Always an amazing experience. Food is always consistently wonderful and the whole staff is top notch.
Had a great evening at Spago. The outdoor area was transformative.
Great Restaurant. The food and service was Excellent. They have a desert that is a must try. The European Hot Chocolate
The outside tent is remarkable. The food is as good as ever.
Perfect in every way.
Absolutely wonderful! Very comfortable and so many precautions taken to make everyone feel safe!
We enjoyed eating in the tent. There is enough space between the tables so the noise level is perfect. Server was polite and very nice. We celebrated our fifth anniversary and she brought us a delicious dessert. Food was also very good and tasty. We had the veal schnitzel. The best part was meeting Wolfgang Puck himself.
Still a magical place! Wish they put the Chinese duck back on the menu. Our meal was wonderful!
The food was fantastic and incorporated seasonal items. We have been here before and enjoy coming back. I think the smoked salmon pizza is unique. The fresh pasta is a must.
It was amazing
Did the tasting menu and was not impressed. Most of the dishes were underwhelming, service was sloppy, and timing between courses felt random. For $225 per head can find much better experiences in LA. Indoor courtyard is nice and Wolfgang introducing himself is a plus, but would recommend going a la carte.
Great service, food came out pretty quick and the whole place had a nice vibe
We had the most wonderful evening! We sat in the original patio next to the fireplace. It was so beautiful, elegant, cozy and romantic. One of the reasons we love Spago so much is not only the always amazing food, but the kindness and warmth of the staff. Mrs Lazaroff was there and asked us twice how we were enjoying ourselves, as did the wonderful floor manager Laurent! We really felt very special - like all of the guests are treated. Don’t forget the Wiener Schnitzel!l and Kaiserschmarrn for dessert! Reminds me of Finnish Pannukakku!
Wowwww! Where do I even begin???? OUTSTANDING! Bravo to bringing indoor outdoors, Spago! You really outdid yourselves with a massive tent? Not sure what exactly to call it, but you did an incredible job. Not only was the environment amazing, the food, service, and vibe was truly a fun experience. Had some friends visiting from out of town and since I had heard about this incredible "outdoor" experience I decided this would be the perfect place. We were all blown away. Thank you for making Covid seem less dreary, Spago! We'll be back soon.
Very nice restaurant with amazing food and service.
Great place for a date night.
Outstanding restaurant. One of the very best dining experiences in Los Angeles.
Best pizza around!!!
