Santorini Greek Taverna
Santorini was founded on the Greek values of filoxenia; literally the notion of befriending strangers. Thus, as all guests to Santorini quickly realize, they are immediately made part of the family, whether laughing with host Maria’s comedic personality or joining in on an uplifting Greek dance.
While other Greek restaurants have attempted to reinvent a good thing, Santorini continues to offer the classic, authentic tastes of Greece in a welcoming, Mediterranean setting.
With over 40 Greek dishes, it promises an unforgettable experience.
At Santorini, every day is a celebration!
Dinner: Tuesday - Thursday: 3:30pm - 9:30pm, Friday - Saturday: 3:30pm - 10:30pm, Sunday: 3:30pm - 9:30pm
Service was outstanding and over the top - very pleasant. Food was very good and very authentic. Location and ambiance suffered a bit but overall, a very pleasant experience.
Excellent food, cozy and comfortable atmosphere, delicious bottle of wine, a treat. We especially enjoyed the service of the young lady who kept our water glasses full--she was attentive and had a lovely smile.
Having searched for best food restaurants in Calgary, we stumbled upon this hidden gem. The food and portion sizes were amazing. Service was second to none, with the manager approaching the tables and chatting with guests. Would highly recommend if you love Greek cuisine.
Santorini is the best Greek restaurant in Calgary. The food is so well prepared and tasty; the meat practically melts in your mouth it is so tender. Parking can sometimes be difficult if it is busy for dinner but other than that, the family-owned restaurant is a must place if you love Greek food.
An excellent dining experience. Service was really good and food was also excellent.
Enjoyed every moment and taste of delicious food
I had really high expectations. I have always loved greek food, my favorite food to be exact. The service was phenomenal! The way the staff catered to each individual table, was amazing. But the food was sub par. The calamari was a little soggy and flavorless as well as the tzatziki. The spanakopita was good.. The greek salad was tasty but it had a lot of tired withered vegetables in it. The hummus was delicious, and loved that the pita came out hot. Loved the tacky atmosphere and the fact there was family photos on the walls.
All in all, not worth the price. Very sad over the food experience.
We gave been eating here for 30 years it never disks to deliver an excellent meal.
Excellent food, good service, the music was a touch on the loud side but the food, oh man.
Always great food and service
Santorini is just a great place for wonderful food. We were in town for the weekend and use to go there all the time when we lived in Calgary. We wanted our 3 boys to try it and it was exactly the way we remembered it 5 years ago. The food is just amazing.
One of our favourite restaurants. The food is always great, staff are friendly and the service is excellent. We always have the Traverna Special and have never been disappointed.
No Greek dancing as advertised on website. Quite noisy. Great food.
Best food in town. Great atmosphere, and music. Lamb is the best we have ever had.
My wife and I went for a dinner date. The service, food and atmosphere were very good. We enjoyed the authentic Greek cuisine, and we will be back.
The food and service were very good. Enough for lunch leftovers.
From Saganaki, Tzatziki with Pita and Shrimp as starters through our main courses pork and chicken souvlaki very yummy! The atmosphere of the cute building is great as well. Great friendly service. Can only recommend this place. Management must have changed because I almost didn’t want to go there any more after a 2015 food experience.
Either way, great place now!
Good food. Friendly service but slow ( we told them on arrival when we had to leave for a concert and our food arrived only minutes before consume.
Really excellent and personalized service. Adequate parking. both adjacent to and in back of the restaurant despite being on busy Centre Street.
Food was fantastic from the chicken souvlakia, the Moussaka to the lamb platter. For appetizers we had the combination plate (eggplant, hummus, taramasalata and tzatziki) served with warm pita segments to share at the table. Wine complimented the food and the traditional Greek music level and content was just perfect for the size of the restaurant.
As far as I am concerned, Santorini sets the Calgary standard for a fine Greek dining experience.
I've been to Santorini a few times now, and it's always a great meal. Love the authenticity, the food is excellent, the servers are solicitous without hovering, the ambiance is calm and quiet, so you can have a real conversation.
I look forward to returning on my stops at YYC...great food..and friendly service conveniently located!!!!
The food was wonderful. We had the lamb and it was fall off the bone delicious. My mom used to make creme caramel and theirs reminded me of hers. The atmosphere was really good. The service was excellent. This is a true family run restaurant. We met the owners and their daughter. Genuinely friendly.
We will definitely come back again.
A date dinner before the theatre had great soup and the lamb and my date had mousakka it was great and we had lots of time, we will be back
Unfortunately a few of the menu items weren't available when we arrived for dinner (6:30 pm). The server was quick to let us know though and he was attentive throughout the meal. The food we ordered was fine. Nice evening, there were four of us.
Always, reliably, delightfully... fulfilling. For over 20 years we've been "travelling" to Santorini and while it might not offer everything the real island destination does, there is no doubt that that the food and spirit here in this little oasis in Calgary are authentic. We fill our tummies and our hearts, without the usual and empty pretension that plagues the new Calgary restaurant scene. Santorini gets the right thing, right: food.
The food at this restaurant was really good. The food tasted good and the ambiance in the restaurant was very good. Only issue was the price of the items was a bit much. They should either reduce the price or increase the quantity of the food provided. Overall I do recommend and will be back again.
We ate at Santorini for the first time on Valentines. The restaurant was very busy, and table turnover was not matching the timing of reservations very well, but the hostess did a fantastic job of keeping us engaged. We had the Taverna special (which was very popular judging by other tables around us). A set meal sampling many of the restaurants favourite dishes, timing of each course, and portion sizes were very good. Overall a very pleasant evening, we would certainly eat here again.
Great neighbourhood gem! Authentic cuisine and ambience. As must to visit.
As always a great evening. Food was outstanding and staff were friendly and attentive. Traverna special was very good, more than we could eat. We went home completely satisfied. Highly recommend.
We are so happy that we found this place when we were searching for greek restaraunts in Calgary. It did not disappoint. The food was incredible and the service was great! The prices reflect the quality of food so be prepared to pay a little more. But again it was so worth it and we cant wait to go back!
Good Greek menu; gluten free items are not marked. We sat in a corner which meant one person had to face a blank wall.
This has become our New Years Eve restaurant. The food is SO good and well prepared. The service is delightful and friendly. We wished that there was one more potato for each of us in the special meal as the portions are tasty but slightly small. Overall a great experience and we'll be back next year. Thank you!
My husband & I were the first to arrive on New Years Eve. No one else was dining. The first comment we found a little off was that we had the table until 6:30. It was 4:15 PM. Rather than a Happy New Year - this was the greeting from Maria. Service from Melanie was great. food was good but certainly not the best. Small portions. The hot seafood plate was not worth $25.00. The main course, the rice and veggie portion was extremely small in consideration of the low cost to prepare these and really nothing special. After we dined we went elsewhere to top up! There are seveal real good restaurants where you can dine, spend less and walk out feeling good about your experience. No we will not return.
As usual food and service were excellent! The atmosphere is amazing. The owners and staff are very friendly. We always enjoy this place.
The service and meal was excellent. We had 6:30 pm reservation for 4 and we left at 10pm. We were not hurried in the least.
We had the sample meal with several appys and lamb. One person in our party didn't eat lamb so chicken was substituted. It was all delicious and piping hot.
We will surely return as would our friends who were with us. It was a delightful evening.
Dinner meal. Seated quickly and well attended to through the evening. Had the Taverna Special with several courses in traditional style. Everything was hot and tasty. Nice, family-run atmosphere. Will definitely return when in the mood for a Greek meal.
Santorini’s quality & service has really declined over the past few years, Though they’ve never been a “fancy” restaurant, their staff always treated you as if it was. Not this time around.
We entered the restaurant after making a reservation hours earlier for a birthday dinner/date night. There were three tables occupied - one of which was a loud, extended family - which for some reason we were seated immediately next to. There was a wailing infant on a chair less than two feet away from us, and we were close enough to the family that we could have easily joined into their conversation had we wanted to. This was not the intimate date night we had planned for, so I asked if we could move to the two-top just behind us. The host who sat us said no, because if they had a party of six come in that evening, they’d need to join the two top with the adjacent four-top. I can see the logic in that, but considering the restaurant was almost empty & that we had gone to the effort to reserve a table where this potential six-top had not, good customer service would dictate that it would be worth accommodating our reasonable request. He again said we could not move. Then, after reluctantly taking our assigned spots, our server came back with water and she said we could move. Which was appreciated, but the effort it took to get to that conclusion seemed unnecessary.
Our server, while accommodating enough, hardly spoke, no specials or anything were mentioned. Her appearance was disheveled, with a wrinkled and untucked shirt. There was no wine service, the white was left on the table without an ice bucket. We ordered the saganaki and were confused when she brought it out to us already sizzling. I guess they don’t do the flambé at the table anymore? The meal was alright. “Veggies” on the side consisted of what I’m assuming were frozen green beans with the odd chunk of carrot.
For the price point, it was all pretty disappointing. Won’t be back for awhile.
Fabulous authentic Greek food.
Our first time at this restaurant and the food was spectacular. We can’t wait to go back. .
This was the second visit here. We opted to share the cold appetizers, hot appetizers and the sea bass dish (came with potatoes and veggies ), for 3 of us. There was enough to eat and service was good. We will come back.
Awesome experience as usual. Consistently one of the best places to eat in Calgary and the service is second to none.
It helps if you like Greek cuisine as much as I do I suppose, but they do it right at Santorini.
