Sansei, meaning third generation, is a locally owned contemporary Japanese Restaurant offering new wave sushi. The force behind the food is Chef/Owner Dave "DK" Kodama. An Oahu native, he is fearless when it comes to flavors and one of the most adventurous chefs you will meet. At Sansei he has combined his Japanese heritage with Hawaii's incredible ethnic mix and flavors he experienced in his travels to create a New Wave Sushi. Japanese-inspired Pacific Rim, Contemporary Japanese type of cuisine. Call it whatever you like, what you will taste are the unique combinations of flavors and textures. Including our famous award winning dishes the panko ahi, shrimp dynamite, and Dk famous crab ramen. The food will never disappoint!

It has gotten expensive there. Food is good but ambience is avg and a few rolls and couple of drinks will run you $150 or more.

Waiter was great for our party of 10. Restaurant was super casual but the food was excellent. Our group enjoyed everything from sushi to steaks to salads and desserts.

1) The food quality wsa good, but had to send my wife's Salmon back, as felt it was spoiled fish! Ruined her appetite. Not acceptable! 2) The service was superb. She (the laday from Hilo) was caring and efficient. well done! 3) Cleanliness: the table was sticky, the restaurant didn't look / smelled fresh 4) The hostess at the front was not friendly, nor hospitable. outright hostile! Overall, as a local resident didn't see value for price paid & would thing twice about enteratining guests, relatives, etc..

Food was okay but not special. The waitress had an artificial smile that never reached her eyes. The restaurant wasn’t full, yet she forgot to bring us more water when asked. On the reservation I specifically noted that we were celebrating an anniversary, but nothing was ever said or acknowledged by the staff.

Sansei has been a long time favorite but we were disappointed this time round. The food was just okay but the service was below expectation. It seemed like our server had not been properly trained.
