Sansei, meaning third generation, is a locally owned contemporary Japanese Restaurant offering new wave sushi. The force behind the food is Chef/Owner Dave "DK" Kodama. An Oahu native, he is fearless when it comes to flavors and one of the most adventurous chefs you will meet. At Sansei, he has combined his Japanese heritage with Hawai'i's incredible ethnic mix and the flavors he experienced in his travels to create a New Wave Sushi, Japanese-inspired Pacific Rim, Contemporary Japanese type of cuisine. Call it whatever you like. What you will taste are unique combinations of flavors and textures.

    The food was fresh, delicious and intelligently prepared. Prices were very reasonable considering it was downtown Waikiki. Our server was attentive but not interfering. Great evening.

    Inside Out Spicy Tuna Roll was excellent. The small plate Misoyaki Chicken was delicious and a large enough portion to have as an entree.

    Always wanted to try this restaurant but will not be back. Thanksgiving the restaurant was empty maybe 4 tables filled but we were seated in a terrible table by the service station when there were many nicer tables. Lighting was terrible could hardly read the menu. Waiter was nice took our drink order. A little while later we ordered appetizers and our main meal. We received our first appetizer but still no drinks yet. When the busboy brought my dinner, I mentioned the drinks and his response was he doesn't know about that (the right response would have been I'll check with your waiter or the bar). Not to mention getting my dinner before the second appetizer. Food was just okay nothing special. I did read not so good review but always like to try it for myself. I actually could write more but will stop now.

    Poor service. Were there over two hours didn’t get our first appetizer until an hour in. Restaurant was half empty. Tried to upsale us from a $50 bottle of wine to a $110 bottle. Food was good there but not worth the price they charge

    Enjoyed a great meal at Sansei. Their dining room has improved since the last time I had dinner there. The white table cloths and all same level seating has made the experience more enjoyable. Fairly quiet during our experience, but it wasn’t too busy at that time on a Wednesday evening either. I highly recommend the crab ramen. A large dish for one, and easy to share for 2-3.
