Nice time in Saltwater Grill. Had a dozen of fresh oysters ( ice cold) and then had our entrees . I had scallops and shrimp and my date had fish. Arron our waiter was wonderful and would definitely have him serve us again. The food was wonderful and we both drank the house wine which was good.
Our family went for lunch before the Nutcracker at the Grand, which is across the street. We started with several appetizers, such as, the potato soup, lobster bisque & lobster spring rolls, all were good portions, with everyone loving each dish, but be aware the lobster rolls are spicy. Next was the main course consisting of filet mignon, ribeye , redfish and salmon, all the meals exceeded expectations. Our family recommends the Saltwater Grill for a modern take on the classics.
To me the restaurant was too crowded, too many tables to close together. There was too much noise and conversation was difficult. We went there for the seafood, and it was "O.K.", nothing special. Service was not so great. We have to wait several times for our waitress to get service.
As expected, the restaurant was crowded with guests headed across the stree for the Willie Nelson concert. Food quality is never disappointing.....crab cakes are my go to.... yum!!!!
My daughter had salmon....loved it. Everything is beautifully presented.

Actually thought the menu was ok. Ordered the fish of the day - redfish. Order came and fish was overcooked and had a "fishy" scent - not like fresh fish should smell and was brutally overcooked. Sent back - second time - fish still overcooked. No one came by to check on me. Ate half. Waiter took my plate and never asked anything. Bright side - light cream sauce with capers nice.
But worse than all of this was the ambiance. I would describe this restaurant as the polar opposite - zero ambiance. Harsh lighting, no table clothes, can't even think of a place that might look like this - perhaps like a breakfast area where a chain motel offers continental breakfast? And there are zero noise absorbing measures taken - no carpet, no table clothes, no acoustic ceiling tiles. It is just horrible. We wanted to take our dinners and eat on the sidewalk which was calmer and quieter.
Conveniently located across the street from the Grand Opera House. Seated promptly for our reservation. The noise level was extremely loud, food was good (not bad, but not exceptional). Service deteriorated as the meal progressed, waited 15 minutes after ordering dessert, then another 10 minutes to get our check.
My husband and I happened upon this gem while at the Galveston Art Festival. It was also our first wedding anniversary. The Saltwater Grill was perfect! Great atmosphere, all employees were helpful and welcoming. The food was AMAZING! We can't wait to go back
I had the evening's special, a lovely red snapper dish, at the recommendation of the waiter. It turned out to be excellent; moist, fresh, and with a delicate, flavorful sauce. The service was attentive, friendly and funny. The atmosphere was comfortably casual. All in all, a delightful experience. We will definitely be back. I would highly recommend.
We reserved a table for dinner before attending a performance at The Grand. Our reservation was honored, the table was ready, the servers were excellent, and the cuisine was delicious. Our only caveat is that the noise level was so high we could not hear each other or really hold a conversation. This may be because everyone was having fun or a problem with acoustics. Food is a bit pricey, but is worth the drive.
Food: flawlessly executed. I had seared scallops & shrimp served over a creamy risotto with peas & mushrooms (recommended). Rarely do restaurants get the consistency, & texture of risotto just right. Saltwater grill nailed it. I only wished they'd been more of it. Also would've liked to have had larger scallops. Regardless, it's an excellent dish, & one that I would order again.
My dining companion had the pan-roasted Chilean sea bass (is there any other kind of sea bass?) with sautéed spinach & couscous. Again, flawlessly executed. The couscous is the kind with the larger pearls rather than the smaller grain, & it soaked up the cooking juices nicely.
Service: adequate. I have a pet peeve about being interrupted by waitstaff asking if everything is okay. "Y'all doin' okay here?" or, "How we doing? Everything good?"
You're a waiter. Use your eyes, whenever possible. Is my drink empty? Pour me another! Am I eating my food? That means it's good. Have I pushed the plate away, uneaten? Safe bet it's not to my liking. Seriously: please do not interrupt my conversation or my chewing to ask me something that a simple glance at the table will tell you. If my plate is empty, remove it. Don't ask, "You done here?" Our waitress was, regrettably, not what I call "quiet & efficient."
The problem with Saltwater grill is the the acoustics. Let's start with the acoustics: not good. Everything echoes, & worse, it seems to amplify the most obnoxiously grating voices above the cacophony. People find themselves competing to be heard, and as a result, you end up with a noisy atmosphere. On this particular evening, there was a group of very loud, obnoxious drunks in the private dining area. Every so often one (male) would scream. We weren't the only ones bothered by it. What made it all the more frustrating was that there are doors to the private dining room. Easily shut. Instead, everyone got to hear the low-brow conversations (and screaming) going on in that room.
We had a wonderful dinner that included local red snapper and crab. Everything was delicious and we really enjoyed our dinner. We had a wonderful server who was very attentive as was the rest of the staff. We live in Houston, but we look forward to going back to Galveston for another mean at Saltwater Grill.
We had a reservation but didn't need one for Sunday night. We were the only people in the restaurant. We decided to sit at the bar. The one standout for the meal - the mussels! Both flavors - diablo and white wine. Wish we stopped there... everything else was very average, at best. My BBQ oysters were fried - wasn't expecting that - and they were served almost cold. Pass on those next time. There are too many good places to eat in Galveston. We will not be returning to the Saltwater Grill.
Kind of a frustrating experience.
Pros--Close to theatre, fresh seafood cocktail, garlic sauteed spinach, tasty vegetarian pasta on request, amiable waitstaff
Cons-Noisy room, understaffed for a Saturday night, inattentive waitress, strange tasting crab cakes, apple cider salad either too sweet with dressing , champagne by the glass too sweet.
We'll try again knowing what not to order and hope for a better experience.
We were celebrating our good friends' 53 anniversary. We had tickets to a production at The Grand which is across the street, and decided to eat at Saltwater Grill because we had had good experiences in the past. We did not know they were taking part in Houston Restaurant Week, so we ordered a fantastic three course meal from their HRW menu. All three courses were exceptionally delicious for a cost of $35 per person. Our server, Molly, was knowledgeable and attentive, with a bubbly personality. It was a wonderful beginning to an enjoyable evening.
We received exceptional service and the most wonderful meal. My husband's grouper was fresh and cooked perfectly, topped with crab. I ordered the Rib Eye a little hesitant because of the portion size but am happy I did. Steak was tender as butter and seasoned perfectly. Best steak ever, we will be back.
