This is one of our favorite more eclectic restaurants on the island. Good interesting food is always available and prepared excellently!!!
After only a fair dinner at another restaurant on Galveston Island the night before, we were hoping for a better experience at Saltwater. It did not disappoint. Having been there before(but not for awhile), we were happy to find it still had great food and a vibrant atmosphere. Our server, TJ, kept us engaged and laughing. All in all, a very good night.
Food was very good. Crabcakes, seabass were outstanding. Cioppino and mussels kinda just OK.
Food was great, we were very satisfied. TJ our waiter was attentive and we never wanted or needed anything, he was a step ahead all evening..... looking forward to our next visit....

The food was amazing! Drove all the way from Cypress, Texas for a Mother's Day celebration and it was well worth the ride. My wife and I are foodies and wanted to try something different. Lets just say this will not be the last time we visit. Small and quaint, but they honored my reservation. Zero wait time, walked in and was seated immediately. Service was great and food was amazing! Desert was okay, not bad but nothing to brag about. Other than that, no complaints at all! Love, love, love this place!
We enjoyed dining at this restaurant for Mother's Day. We were a large party so they gave us a separate which was much appreciated. Everyone enjoyed their food and the service was spot on. We'll be back!
I specifically searched for Mother’s Day brunch and Saltwater Grill was one of the first paid establishments to display. We happily booked as this would be our first time visiting. Unfortunately, there was no brunch menu or anything specific to Mother’s Day. It was just business as usual for the establishment. While we had a special day regardless of the menu, we did feel there was a level of false advertising via Open Table. On the positive side, the host was amazing with our children. Long story short, if you’re going to pay to be part of a Mother’s Day event, make an effort to make it special for the moms. You have a diverse enough menu to make it happen. Just my two cents.
IMPOSSIBLE TO TALK TO ANYONE AT YOUR TABLE...VERY LOUD...TO CROWED TOGETHER, BUT EXCELLENT FOOD AND SERVICE...
Always enjoy dinner at Saltwater and a show at the Grand!
Great food and service.! Kind of noisy, had to talk loud with a large party.
We arrived early and were seated immediately. Near the fron was better, as the noise level rose as you got toward the back. Service was good.
Our Crab Cake appetizer was excellent, lots of crab meat. My naked redfish was slightly overlooked, as was my husband 's grouper. My friend had the grouper, as well and had substituted wild mushroom risotto, which she declared the best part of her meal. We split the apple strudel with ice cream that was also very good.
Can't rave over dinner, but nice meal before the theater performance across the street. Definitely glad we had reservations.
Very friendly staff. Service is good and food is outstanding.
Went to celebrate 53rd anniversary with my family. We were enjoying ourselves until a group of 4 women were sat very close to us. I don't know what these women were on but they were extremely loud; so loud we couldn't hear ourselves talk. My son asked the waiter if the ladies could be asked to quiet down. The waiter asked the manager and he said there was nothing he could do about it. It got so bad, in desperation my son went to speak with the ladies and ask them to quiet down as they were disturbing not only us but several other patrons. One of the women was very hostile while the other 3 apologized. But they didn't quiet down. They were finally moved to another table.
The food was good but I expecting exceptional from reading the reviews on the website. We all had something different and some plates were better than others. I suppose it's a hit or miss thing. Service was excellent. Kevin did a pretty good job of keeping up with everything.
Been there, done that.
We have dined here many times, and rarely do I feel compelled to leave a review, mostly because I am too lazy to do so - not because it's not a great place. Three of us had a couple appetizers and a drink for Happy Hour, and then we had dinner. My dinner was scallops atop beans/potatoes, and my fellow diners had coconut shrimp and coconut salmon - all to rave reviews. Appetizers were the tuna and the calamari - the first was great, and the second was good but nothing to brag about.
The real reason I am completing this review is that our server was so lovely. Her name is Kaprina, and she actually walked out with me so that I (a single woman) would not be walking to my car (parked behind the restaurant) by myself. Now, that's service!
Thanks to Kaprina and the lucky restaurant owners who employ her!
Very good food; very good service.
Not gluten-free friendly.
There were six of us plus an infant dining during Art Walk, so it seemed that the wait staff and hostess were a little more frenetic than they would usually be. We were seated very promptly - in fact, a little early for our 7:45 PM reservation. Ordered a few appetizers that arrived reasonably timely, and the fried calamari were very good. My entree of grilled shrimp and scallops was really good and the risotto was excellent. I was less happy with the crab cake - definitely not the Massachusetts kind.
Great food, service, ambience. It was a bit noisy but it added to the energy of the room! We will be back!
The food was great—I especially enjoyed the seared scallops. However, the noise level was overwhelming. Conversation even between two people was not possible. It is unfortunate.
Red Fish was good. Ordered half dozen oysters on the half shell. All were small. one was the size of a nickel!
Reliably excellent food, EVERY time -- both seafood and steak. Comfortable and welcoming, even when busy. Nice bar scene.
Calamari was good. Redfish was over cooked. No one even asked if our food was ok. Kept waiting so I could tell them. Kind of got to be a joke. Maybe the waiter knew the answer and didn’t want to ask? Drinks were average. Red wine was not cellar temp but that’s not that unusual these days.
Pricier than expected and EXTREMELY noisy. Hard to talk to others at the table Service was very good and quick. Had reservation and was seated immediately upon arrival. That is always a plus. Would not recommend for a romantic date or a quiet place to tlak.
The manager asked us to relocate to another table so they could put several tables together to accommodate a larger group. We found out it was for a group of prom goers. We obliged and were rewarded with a tasty dessert. So, thank you to the manager. We had a delicious meal followed by a yummy dessert.
We enjoyed the food and service and requested a table in the corner as the only drawback to the restaurant is the noise level. Even so, it was noisy. Great location.
Nothing special slow service. Ceviche and seafood stew was shrimp and crab, and Manhattan Clam chowder with shrimp and crab- Greek Olympia in port side was surprisingly better food.
Outstanding service! Food choices were unique and delicious. Location is in the heart of Galveston and works for a variety of occasions. We had the surf and turf special after having appetizers. Our drinks were good and so was dessert. We made reservations for the next day prior to our theatre show.
As always, the food was excellent. Wish the place wasn’t so noisy......very hard to have a conversation.
Excellent service and the food was outstanding
The food was delicious, very fresh and nice portion size. Service was excellent. Great location. Would recommend this restaurant to friends.
The mussels were absolutely delicious—what a wonderful sauce. The redfish special was delicious as well! Everything was so good, we came back on Monday for lunch!!!
We have been to Saltwater grill upwards of 15 times and have never had such a horrendous time. Our waiter could not hear us over the noise and kept bringing us the wrong items and when he did hear us he still brought the wrong items! He did not fill up our drinks nor bring us bread. All of the tables next to us were experiencing the same problems and we actually all conversed on the matter. Never has this happened before but this particular visit was a nightmare and we are contemplating going back!
As always the Saltwater Grill as met my dining expectations both in service, food presentation and taste.
Never disappointed with this restaurant. The oysters on the half shell were excellent and the Chilean sea bass dish with risotto was cooked to perfection .
My wife and I tried Saltwater after seeing it from across the street from Rudy and Pacos. Great place food was excellent and great price as well.
Group of 10 in town for a meeting at the Tremont. Restaurant wasn’t particularly crowded for a Thursday night. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The special was a Parmesan crusted snapper on a bed of tomato risotto which was superb. Moderately priced wine list.
Service was excellent !!!
Food was very good.
Our waitress was an “older” woman whose service was subpar. In her defense, she seemed overworked and I suspect more wait staff was needed. Nonetheless, our experienced suffered because of her lack of attention to us.
Enjoyed the experience. A tad on the noisy side; not off-putting but don't go there wanting a quiet intimate dining experience. Food was great. Service was good but our waiter was very soft-spoken and in that environment was made to repeat himself a few times.
I'd go there again for a friend's get-together or similar but not for a quiet date.
