Saltlik, A Rare Steakhouse - Calgary Ratings and Reviews
We chose Saltlik for our 5 year anniversary and we were not disappointed. Once seated we received complimentary Prosecco, which made us feel appreciated and special.
Our waitress Dani was pleasant, helpful, and lovely to chat with.
The food was delicious and our steaks were cooked perfectly to how we ordered them. My partners only critique is that her seasonal vegetables were ever so slightly over salted. The Apple pie was a fantastic!
The atmosphere was romantic and the venue was very cosy.
We will absolutely return to Saltlik.
When we arrived we where ushered off to our table. Every other group behind us were offered champaign prior to their dining experience. Ordered cheese toast and it was neglected to be rung in and brought for a long time. We had felt slighted and had a comedy of errors happen. The food undoubtably was amazing. We just wished we could have had the complete experience it would have made our memorable occasion an event to cherish vs a memory for other reasons.
Server did not introduce herself, just jumped into asking for an order a minutre or two after we sat. Her service continued to be insistent and inpersonal as she asked to clear our mains when they were half eaten, no crossed cutlery etc. No changing in cutlry betwen apps and mains, simply added a steak knife. The wine list is also a joke, no vintages listed, even on the vintage page. Beyond that, the Ridge Zinn turned out to be a blend not the actual Zinfandel that Ridge produces. Wine service consisted of popping the bottle and pouring the first glass. We had to pour the rest while other tables around us received proper wine service. Never saw a manager and the fastest point in service was the attempt to take our order a minute after we sat and the espresso at the end.
Saltlik is consistently great! The food was amazing. Try the coconut curry shrimp appetizer. The service was great. The Waiter ( I think his name was Scott?) and hostess staff were knowledgeable and very attentive. I always book the Saltlik because I know I'm going to get great service and awesome food. Its a nice atmosphere too.
The food was fabulous. Service was excellent and the manager took the time to reach out to us on a very busy night. The parking at 5 pm was terrible and that would be the only thing that distracted from our dinner. We were going to the hockey game so needed an early reservation.
I really enjoyed my meal.
However, it took quite a while for our food order to be taken and for it to be delivered (soup and pasta).
the service was poor, and the servers were cranky. the server that came and dropped my bill just dropped it without even a thank you. We then had to wait another 15 minutes to actually pay.
To be blunt, we waited for over an hour for our food, that is completely unacceptable at lunch no matter how busy the restaurant is. We had to ask a server several times and eventually the GM what was taking so long and all that we got were apologies. I don't have the ability to spend 2 hours at lunch and the reasonable expectation is that lunch isn't going to take that long. I went there because I was willing to pay a little more to sit and discuss business in a refined setting. I really doubt whether I would risk going back since who wants to feel like they've been forgotten?
What happened? It used to be a good restaurant. This time service was below average; food was barely warm when served; I was overcharged for some food; and coffee was sub par. I was going to this restaurant at least twice a year for more than five years. I cannot recommend it anymore.
Was disappointed with our visit to Saltlik this time. The food was up to it's normal standard and the server we had wasn't the best. He made a lot of assumptions about our order and was incorrect the majority of the time. Doubt we will be back any time soon.
Service was good but we all had the special which was a striploin steak sandwich. Our server did not tell us the price and we were all shocked to learn AFTER the fact that they were $47.50 each. For a striploin that was not good value and none of us would have ordered that had we know how much it cost. Our bills were reduced by a round of drinks, which was a decent gesture, but not enough to make up for the outrageous price for the steak.
The steak was OUTSTANDING and the accompanying baked potato was tasty but needed more 'fixin's'. My Step Mom had the Salmon and she enjoyed it. We started with the coconut prawns and calamari and they were both delicious. I think as all the additional accompaniments are charges, they should at least serve a sourdough or some kind of bread with the meal. My husband and father in law both also had steaks and then the table shared asparagus and mushrooms. The mushrooms were also delicious.
My father in law had a 'not cheap' virgin ceasar and it was 3/4 ice and over spiced considering there was about 1/2 cup of clamato in the glass. If someone orders a virgin cocktail I don't think it should come in a tiny highball glass full of ice. Anyhow, that may sound nitpicky. The real reason I wanted to leave this review was this: We had an early reservation at 5:00pm. When we walked in it was quiet and the lovely lady at the front offered us a complimentary glass of Prosecco - nice touch. The 4 of us stopped to toast my Father in Law as we were there for his birthday. We chatted briefly with her as she asked about the occasion. I did not go there for a free dessert for him as we had birthday cake at home but most high end (and high ticket) establishments would have gone the extra mile and shared that detail with the server. I have been to Earl's with my girlfriend's and the waiter comp'd her a dessert.
I felt like we sat down, had our orders taken, had the food delivered and quality checked ONCE and then it was time to pay. $400 dinner in an hour. Move along, another table coming in. Anyhow, the steak really was worth the visit and I enjoyed it as it was my first time there but there are a lot of great steakhouses for less that offer more so sadly I won't be recommending it or likely returning.
With all the other restaurants on 8 Avenue closing down the Salt Lik was around 70% full for this lunch and had a good vibe. Service and food are good but the prices are a bit high so value is my one area of concern.
It was nice to see a romaine lettuce salad as opposed to kale. Kale salads are all the rage and I prefer good old fashioned Caesar with romaine so that was a real bonus.
