Japanese
Sake no Hana bar and restaurant is housed on the first floor of a modernist Grade II listed building in the heart of St James, offering modern Japanese dining. The a la carte menu provides a variety of hot and cold appetisers, charcoal grill, Toban and Kamameshi dishes, while sushi and sashimi are prepared to order at the 13 seat sushi bar. A carefully selected list of sakes, Japanese whiskeys and other wines, spirits and liqueurs complement the dishes offered in the restaurant. Sake no Hana’s interiors were designed my esteemed architect Kengo Kuma and the bar includes a beautiful futuristic chandelier, offering the perfect space for post work cocktails. Cloakroom available. ALIPAY and weChat payment accepted.

Good food, but overly expensive in my opinion and ‘I’m not a cheap date’ Very good cocktail offering plenty of choice.

Do not waste your money!
Firstly, the restaurant is freezing. When I pointed this out and asked to move tables, I was offered a hot drink! When I requested a different table I was told there was nothing and maybe I could try one of their sister restaurants?! After explaining that this is a prestigious restaurant that should not require patrons to sit in winter coats, a table was found but it made no difference. Given this was a special 55th birthday celebration, our disappointment was huge. Anyway, unable to change restaurants, we stuck with it. I wish I could have said it was worth it but it wasn’t. We had the sashimi platter which was ok but nothing special - we have eaten raw fish that tastes equally great in cheap, local Japanese joints. Each piece I ate had gristly bits that were inedible. The black cod sushi was also very boring and plain. The Japanese aubergine with fig would have been lovely - if there had actually been more than just two tiny pieces of figs (from which the balance of sweetness would have helped the dish immensely). The mixed tempura was no better than a street food cafe and the batter was pretty greasy. The main course smoked duck breast was the size of a small starter although this dish was extremely tasty and the meat was very tender and succulent. We had 4 small carafes of sake served warm and the restaurant only charged for 3 as a token of apology but, when the bill was processed, we were overcharged and had to wait around for a refund. We came here because we didn’t get a chance to eat at the branch in Omniya in Bali but the food, environment and service fell hugely short of expectations and, for the price, is nothing less than a rip off for sub standard food and ambience. Sake no Hana ruined the 55th surprise for my partner. All hype and no heart. Shockingly bad!

The food was amazing. However, the lack of service took away from the overall experience. It seems that they were under staffed for a full restaurant in a Saturday night.

I have had good food & service here having visited twice in the last year but sadly this wasn’t one of those occasions. The evening I went the lighting was so poor the table next to mine had to use the torch on their phone to read the menu. This isn’t ambience, it’s darkness. This was a minor issue but maybe symptomatic of a once good restaurant disintegrating. If you have been to an indifferent fish & chip shop & wondered about the batter it was nothing compared to the inedible tempura served to me. It masked the taste of what it covered & was probably the worst piece of Japanese cooking I have come across (I have lived & worked in Japan). I complained politely to the head waitress. She failed to offer to replace the offending tempura or taste it & merely said she would let the chef know. She was completely indifferent. This once good restaurant is now nothing less than dreadful.

It was my birthday and I usually love this place but this time around the service wasn’t at par. I was told “wait a minute” a few times by the waitress (because she had a hard time taking down the orders and then would jot off somewhere and would forget that I’m there waiting with a question or order) and we waited a long time to get the order of sake bottle, and water bottle and soya sauce...etc. She also kept commenting about the amount of food we ordered “that’s too much!” she would say... We were a group of 4 and we were all dissatisfied with the level of service. We were also disappointed because 2 of our guests were vegan and there was a poor choice (and response from waitress) regarding foods they could eat. Maybe next birthday I will go somewhere else.

This was a special birthday event and for that we were really pleased that we could talk and that the service and food provided the right ambiance. We have eaten here before and know that the sashimi is really good and the other courses in the tasting menu were of the same level. The only disappointment was the desert. After several courses we wanted something light and palate cleansing and we got a lot of sticky chocolate with a sugar tuille. The staff were very attentive especially the sommelier.

The place is always very beautiful and the food top level. It is a pity that they do not have anymore the fantastic quail they had in the menu but, nonetheless, is a place to visit again.

Nice atmosphere, however the food was unimpressive given its price level. I would not recommend Sake no Hana to a friend unfortunately. Service was not great either, waited 25 mins for a table when I arrived well in time for my reservation.

Service was truly awful. They had crammed so many tables in it felt like a canteen. Staff /kitchen couldn’t cope and so a huge wait for each course.

The food in fairness was excellent but at£108.00 a head this wAs a New Year’s Eve dinner to be avoided at all costs.

Excellent good food. Our table was in a corner and at the exit so too much movement around it. The service was kind but messy.

I was there the 3rd time already. It was always really nice, but this time I was a bit disappointed. We had the festive menu, there was a really long waiting time between the first and the second course. Suddenly we got the 2nd and 3rd course at the same time. They forgot us with the second course, therefore we got it all together with the 3rd course.
The beef as a main way very fatty, we left it. We left the sushi rolls as well as they where not delicious at all. Usually it was scrumptious in the past.
The dessert we enjoyed, but the waiter told us that he rather prefers a scoop of Nutella than this kind of dessert. That was very weird, even he wasn’t convinced about the food.
Therefore the all over experience was disappointing this time. I wouldn’t go back again. Shame really, as the restaurant itself it’s really lovely.

We booked a 3pm table and were rushed. At least it felt like that. We like the food and the place. Just a little rushed. If you want to l owe don’t take a booking close to closing time. It was a little disappointing. Overall we enjoyed the food

Sake No Hana is a beautiful place to go for a meal. The selection of food caters to meat/vegetarian/vegan, and if you're picky the chef will make it to your spec.

The service is top notch and the quality of the food is amazing. If you visit Sake No Hana you will not be disappointed with your choice!

We made the mistake of ordering a set 4 course lunch. The sushi and sashimi was excellent but both main courses were very poor and bordering on inedible. Overall very average and a disappointment.

This was a truly terrible meal. £215 for two people, with only two glasses of wine. The fish dishes had a dreadful back taste and weren’t fresh. The sushi bears no resemblance to Japanese or Korean Sushi. Staff were cheerful but not well informed. I was dismayed when front of house staff insisted that I go to wait in the bar because I arrived 90 seconds before the 1800 opening time. This place has declined appallingly since it opened. I cannot warn people off too strongly.

We booked last minute and could only get counter seating, this was interesting watching and taking to the chefs preparing the dishes before they went out although the seating is quite tight.
The set meal with wine is good value, and the service was great, although it appears a bit more expensive than other local pre theatre dinners the included drinks meant it was comparable and the food was good

Overall we had an enjoyable experience but a few niggles. We ordered the taster menu which was very good. However, shortly before we were due to have our dessert we were told that we only had the table for 2 hours which we have exceeded, the following guests were waiting, so could we have our dessert at the sushi bar. We did move but the request was inappropriate especially when we were paying a small fortune for our meal. We hadn’t been advised we were on a time limit either. Something to be aware of.

Nice restaurant with good food. Service very friendly and very fast. Price wise, it’s on the expensive side.
Note: Restaurant on the App’s build in map is shown on the left hand side of St. James Street (looking North). Entrance is on a corner on the right hand side.

We enjoyed a really lovely Sunday lunch at Sake no Hana! The perfect antidote to a very busy pre-Christmas London. Sake no Hana was an oasis of calm, with the most delicious menu. We felt extremely satisfied with our meal and surprisingly relaxed, ready to face the busy streets again.
