Worst experience ever. Will try to make you spend more money or would not serve you
Vacation. We come here every time we are in New Orleans.
Menu is not very friendly. I realize it is upscale but a baked drumstick on top of collard greens and a tablespoon of mashed potatoes does not equal $30, sorry.
Bravo au chef et toute la brigade. La nourriture était excellente. Beaucoup d'attention et de subtilité dans les plats.
Too much red pepper, hot additives masked taste of food. Service slow, expensive small plates....tried it...once was enough. Haughty atmosphere
I was the only diner at the dining room when I arrived at approximately 6:45pm. I ordered the alligator mirliton for an appetizer. The chunks of alligator were cooked unevenly, some sides were near burnt, the other sides golden pale. The whipped mirliton was tasteless and uneventful. Had the dish been successful with crispy evenly cooked alligator if would have rendered the crispness soggy with the white remoulade. Worst, no one ever came by to ask how my food was and I was a sole diner in the dining room with a full staff! My snapper entree arrived 40 minutes after I ordered. The fish was bland, over peppered for a delicate fish. The dirty rice was lukewarm . This dish failed again. Even though the dirty rice was lukewarm, had I closed my eyes I wouldn’t be able to tell you the flavor profile. This time my server did come by mid-way as I was eating my entree. I told her my disappointment especially with the rice. She asked if she could “re-heat” it. Re-heat? Seriously this is hospitality? Not even an offer to have the kitchen remake? When the server brought the bill she said “Sorry you didn’t like your fish” with the same insincerity as the rest of my experience -uninspired. A waste of my money, I regret leaving even a 10 percent tip. One of the worst meals and restaurant experiences and I drove six hours specifically for Sac-a-Lait. Never again.
This is a farm to table concept that puts a contemporary spin on traditional Cajun dishes.
Good to share multiple dishes and try new foods and flavors..
The food was terrible. Not even edible. Very disappointing. And I have NEVER left a bad review. Ever
Our meal was amazing! The flavors combined with local fare was exceptional! The unique crafted cocktails were scrumptious. The staff was attentive. The restaurant is very appealing due to the craftsmanship of iron, wood and spectacular lighting! We were fortunate to meet Sam Carroll and she was delightful! Some of our favorites that night were the hen gumbo and the sides that accompanied it, shrimp chevrettes, stewed okra, blue cheese frog legs and rabbit ravioli. Can’t wait to fine there again!
Would have seen nice to have some vegetable starters. Bread with meal would have been great to be able to soak up the sauces at the bottom of the bowls. Hated to leave any of it in the bowl!
Wonderful hospitality and creative flavours
Been here twice, the food is always phenomenal. Really knowledgeable staff with a great wine menu to boot. Would definitely recommend.
Absolutely the best meal we have ever experienced. The drinks were so delicious my new favorite is the D Nice! We had charbroiled local oysters, deep fried back strap ( I got to tell you, the side that comes with this..... unbelievably fantastic) and the guinea hen gumbo chef Ian's specialty I hear and must agree. The best gumbo ever! And with the sides I just can't say enough. Did someone say dessert?? Oh my goodness! I don't even have words..... Phenomenal!!
My husband and I truly enjoyed our evening at Sac-A-Lait. We came for dinner after a long day of work. The staff was so genuinely friendly and attentive. They were super helpful in explaining the menu. We enjoyed sharing several tasty plates including plump and juicy chargrilled oysters, a unique and delicious beet “hand pie” type dish, amazing pistollettes which was my favorite bite of the night (and one of my favorite from our whole trip), deviled crab which was amazing and alligator on a really yummy mash. The Chef/Owner made her way to our table to say hi which is really nice and genuine. We will definitely be back next time we’re in NOLA!
Food was phenomenal as always. Most unique menu in the city, done so wonderfully.
Excellent food - understaffed in the kitchen & dining room which ultimately destroys the goodwill engendered by the food. Dishes took forever to come out - I just don’t get it.
Service and food was outstanding
The venison was excellent and so were the Damn Thistle drinks.
This was the best meal I have ever had and I'm a foodie! We were shocked. Totally different level. My wife ordered 3 things that I am not a fan of and all three of them blew me away. Our new favorite restaurant inNew Orleans!
Simply wonderful. Great bar staff. Professional and passionate people that are infectious. Love love love all around.
The food, ambience, and service were superb. Food was inventive, excellently executed.
My husband's 70th birthday!!! And it is one we won't forget!!! Cody delivered our entrées! We have watched Cajun Aces on Food Network & was so honored to be able to meet him! Sam was working another event! But we recommend this place 1000%! Food, service & ambiance was 5star!!!! Please try it!!!!
By far the best restaurant in New Orleans. Even my 11 year old daughter loved it, especially the veal brains. If you go hope to be served by Chris, he is awesome.
Best undiscovered weekday joint. Superb service. Great deviation from same ol same ol when in NOLA for a long stay.
Really impressive food and service--creative and delicious! Thank you!
We were disappointed in the Hen of the Woods dish, which used to be fantastic. It didn’t have enough sauce and the mushrooms were a bit undercooked. The rest of our food was very good. It was extremely loud in the restaurant, made worse by a large party at the bar talking (shouting) very loudly. I hope we have a better experience next time, because we usually like Sac A Lait.
The best meal that we had on our weekend trip. My husband and I are adventurous eaters and the menu had a great mix of uncommon foods. Everything was delicious and seasoned perfectly. The waitstaff was very knowledgable about explaining portion sizes, spice, etc. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to try something different with some traditional Louisiana flavors!
We loved our experience here! Tapas-style plates of traditional Southern ingredients prepared in thoughtful and unique ways. Many different local beers on tap and delicious desert. And excellent service on top of all that!
Service was wonderful. The food was amazing. Run, don’t walk to experience this restaurant.
Menu is very limited but what we had was high quality.
We had a teenager with us and the menu is a bit adventurous so we asked if there was anything off menu we could get (pasta, rice, etc.) and the waiter was really snobbish in letting us know that was not possible. We settled on bread and some potatoes...food for the grown ups was fine (a bit pricy for the portion sizes but it's touted as a 'large portion' tapas place so no big deal there) but honestly the server really turned us off up front with his vibe and it was hard for the meal to recover.
The interior is very nice, custom cocktails were excellent but I am thinking there's a reason besides tucked away location that this place is 75% empty anytime I walk past there.
Would go back for drinks and appetizers in a pinch but too many great places in this area to go again for dinner.
Amazing food! Well thought out and presented. Staff very knowledgeable too! I can’t say enough good things about this place! Looking forward to visiting them next time we are in New Orleans.
Need better food choices. Too much pepper used. Music was too loud. Only 3 tables occupied at 6:30 on a Friday. If the menu is not upgraded this restaurant will close due to no repeat customers. Pricey for what you get.
Fantastic as usual! Cool place. Great staff!
Great local craft beer selection and creative craft cocktails to go with some of the usuals. Charbroiled oysters were excellent, as was the venison backstrap, which was seasoned perfectly and cooked to rare.
Even for small plates the portions were very small. I love spicy but two were so spicy I couldn’t finish. Service was great ambience is nice. I wish they had a larger menu
In one word: AMAZING!!!
In more words: this underrated restaurants is both a heaven for adventurous foodies and a wonderful place for great conversation. The service is exceptional, our bartender was especially sweet. The music is good but not too loud (thank god for that! Music is supposed to add to the atmosphere, almost unnoticable, not make you scream at each other because it is so intrusive. Sac-a-lait gets it right, bravo!
Also: the place is free of annoying hipsters!
We had the raw and charbroiled oysters, the rabbit wrapped in collards with a tasty dijon sauce and the hen of the woods mushrooms. Cocktails are great to. Can‘t wait to come back!
Friendly and attentive service. The food was incredibly delicious and creative, without being pretentious. Ambience was quiet, earthy, and industrial but still had an air of romance. Excellent place to celebrate a special occasion!
The food was inventive and tasty, not your typical Cajun fare. Excellent!
