J Carver's Oyster Bar & Chophouse features market fresh oysters & premium wood grilled steaks. Nestled in West 6th District of Downtown Austin, John Carver, Owner and Chef delivers an elevated classic fine dining experience featuring a gorgeous raw & oyster bar and intimate dining experience.

In order to honor all reservations booked, we ask that all bookings adhere to our suggested dining time frame. Please contact our reservationist if you have additional questions. Our time frames are as follows
2 people - 2 hours
3 people - 2 hr 15 minutes
4-5 people - 2 hr 30 minutes
6-7 people - 2hr 45 minutes
8+ people - 3 hours

My boyfriend and I had an amazing experience for my birthday dinner! Valet parking was smooth and the hosts were very friendly and welcoming. The ambiance inside was very romantic, and our server, Chad, made our first time dining there so memorable! He answered all of our questions and gave great recommendations. The food was absolutely delicious! We had the steak bruschetta for our appetizer, our bar drinks were delicious, and we shared the Porterhouse steak along with the potato puree and corn brûlée. We had the sampler dessert platter which was amazing as well! 10/10 would recommend a trip here for a special occasion!

About the restaurant

Located in the heart of the the Most Beautiful Square in Texas, City Post Chophouse began its story as a post office in the 1930s, during the Great Depression and Prohibition. Nearly a century later, the beautifully renovated historic building now offers an elevated dining experience, live music and private events.

Executive Chef Adrian Corkill has curated a stand-out menu, featuring fine cuts and chops of beef, lamb, and pork, as well as fresh seafood and decadent side dishes served family style, along with unique handcrafted cocktails. Accommodations for vegetarian, pescatarian, and gluten-free diets are readily available. Our wine selection includes something for everyone, with a variety of by-the-glass options.

Reservations can be made for lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch in our main dining room, where “Texas formal” attire is appropriate. Walk-ins are welcome in our oyster bar, where our full menu is available with a more relaxed dress code.

Open seven days a week, The Capital Grille is best known for our expertly prepared steaks, which are dry aged in house for 18 to 24 days and then hand-cut by our restaurant's on-premise butcher. The Capital Grille's wine list features more than 350 selections, and its floor-to-ceiling wine kiosk regularly houses 3,500 - 5,000 bottles. Reservations are recommended but not required. This is our 2nd time dining with Boa and we were just as impressed as we were the 1st time. The food is all so delicious, unique and amazing. The staff all are genuine and nice. They definitely treat you well and appreciate you dining there. The steaks are some of the best we've had!
