We are not a ‘fancy pants’ establishment. Not in the least. We offer good quality, home-cooked, locally sourced (where possible) food. 90% of our menu is made on the premises. Certainly not ‘Pub Grub’ but not ‘Gastro Pub’ either. It’s good value for money. However, our standards are high, very high. Not only in the quality of the food that comes into and leaves the kitchen but also in the presentation, the delivery to the table and overall customer service. We’re definitely not ‘Silver Service’ either but all of our staff are attentive, smartly dressed and will always go that extra mile wherever they can. These are just some of the reasons we were awarded the Taste of the West GOLD award in 2019.
We are a dog friendly establishment, very dog friendly. However, please tell us at the time of booking so that we can place you in our Bar area , as opposed to our Restaurant.

We are on holiday in the area and looked on line for a place to eat near where we were staying. Chose The Pen Mill Hotel as it had great reviews. It lived up to the reviews! Lovely friendly staff; clean and welcoming setting. Good choice of food - particularly gluten free! I had a wonderfully delicious vegan and gluten free tart. The pastry melted in my mouth. So unusual to have a tart that’s gluten free - and tasty! My husband had a lovely filo pastry pie (chef’s special) and he loved it. The food was presented well too. There was an amazing choice of gluten free desserts!! I was too full to have one but took one ‘to go’ - ate it later (chocolate gf tart) it was really delicious. We wished we lived closer as this place would become a favourite. We are planning on eating there again before we venture home. If you’re gluten free - or not - this is definitely the place to eat! Highly recommended. Thank you Pen Mill - what a lovely place.

Fantastic food, fantastic service. Also great value for money at £50 per head including service. We each had starters, sides (4 plates to share), mains (4 plates to share) and desert, plus an aperitif and a bottle of very good wine to share. Thank you

Lovely restaurant with a great energy and atmosphere. Food fresh and delicious. Well presented and good portion sizes. We were a table of four and ordered several small plates plus a sharing platter. No complaints about the quality of the food or drinks. Service really good although it became less attentive as the evening progressed. It had gotten busier at that point. Last minute booking for dinner. We had no expectations but were very impressed by the food. Three courses and very reasonably priced. The staff were excellent, friendly and attentive but not intrusive. Would we visit the Mendip Inn again? Yes, without hesitation.
