About the restaurant
Sushi master Ryuichi Nakano casts a wide net at SanKai, drawing longtime fans and welcoming newcomers to his intimate new sushi restaurant in the heart of downtown Edmonds. Enjoy our cozy dining room, omakase sushi bar, or heated outside dining in our domes.

Please note we are a small restaurant and children (babies) need to me accounted for in your reservation if you need seating/highchair. Stroller space is limited and may not always be accommodated.

The sushi bar at SanKai does not disappoint. It’s hard to put in words how good this fish is. And Chef Nakano provides a great dining experience. Easily my favorite place to get sushi in the northwest.

Excellent fish with a wide variety of choices. The menu would be better with one or two more vegetable side dishes. The server we had (2nd time) is excellent. She knows the menu inside and out, and can explain the different fish choices. The inside is nice, with light woods. The only downside is it was very noisy due to a loud group at the Sushi bar.

We had a really wonderful dinner at Wa'z. The flavor combinations for each dish were unique and really highlighted the character of each principal ingredient. The origins and treatment of each dish were explained, and it was so interesting to see each dish prepared in front of us. Much of the seafood seems to be shipped in from Hokkaido, and I would say overall it was comparable to a similar dinner I had in Kyoto, which is really saying something given the high standards for food and service in Japan. We, and other groups, were there to celebrate a special occasion, and they included a birthday candle and bouquet for the birthday boy in our group, which made it very special. Beverage service was fine, but a little below expectations for this level of an establishment. For example, we did not have our glasses of tea and soda regularly filled. Not wanting to be rude by implying the server was not doing her job, I waited for my glass to be refilled before eventually doing it myself. Most in our party don't drink alcohol, so perhaps the server lost interest when she realized we would not be purchasing a lot of it, but what distinguishes a very high end restaurant is that the service would be the same whether you were ordering an expensive bottle of wine or a glass of water. Also, be aware that a 20 percent gratuity is automatically added to the bill, but you might not notice because the bill is folded over. Even so, I might have added an additional gratuity due to all the care and attention the chefs took in explaining the dishes and beautiful presentation, and otherwise impeccable service, but decided not to, given the beverage service. To summarize, what I loved most about Wa'z was the focus on the food, from the outstanding beef and seafood to their accompanying ingredients which are chosen to highlight their flavors rather than confuse them; and the very friendly and knowledgeable chefs, and relaxed atmosphere, which can be unusual in a high end restaurant.

A fun place for a tasty and participatory lunch. Lots of options for your preferred protein for the grill. At our table, we had the sirloin, the shrimp, the spicy pork, tery chicken thighs and broccoli. All were nicely seasoned & well portioned. The sirloin and the shrimp were our favorites. There are also rice/noodle bowls if you prefer not to cook your own lunch. The gojuchang beef bowl at our table got high marks for just the right amount of spicy. And if you order dessert, c’mon! You’ve got a grill in the middle of the table. Of course, get the s’mores! Staff are very attentive and friendly, possibly because we were obvious first timers, but also because that just seems to be the vibe. As each plate was delivered, they gave us suggested grill times for each item and were attentive about clearing away the many little emptied as we were done with them. The lunch includes miso soup and the side salad (yummy dressing!) so unless you’re a linebacker you’ll be full at the end of the meal. Coming in at around $15-17 pp, it’s a great lunch option!

My girlfriend and I were here for a girl’s trip and absolutely loved it! We went right after a hike and it was well deserved. 🤣 We had the Sushi Set A, Sushi Set B, Salmon Roll, Tuna Roll, Spicy Tempura Roll, and Seattle Roll and LOVED every single roll! Our favorite was the Salmon Roll - it was both probably the best Salmon Roll we’ve ever had. It was so good, we ordered a second roll each! We both loved that there wasn’t too much rice in the rolls and the fish just melts in your mouth. We will definitely be back if we’re ever in Seattle. We hope you open a restaurant in Chicago someday! Thank you for the amazing experience.
