Oma's Hideaway is a vibrant, maximalist restaurant inspired by the life and spirit of Chef Thomas Pisha Duffly's grandmother, Kiong Tien “Tina” Vandenberg. Her ability to adapt, to make the most out of limited resources, and to stay creative while projecting warmth and brightness is the guiding force behind Oma’s Hideaway.

Born during the pandemic as a pop-up in the Gado Gado parking lot, Oma’s became a permanent beacon of iridescent light in Portland’s Richmond neighborhood in 2021. The menu draws from Tina’s life story, taking influence from the craveable, soul-satisfying hawker food of Singapore and Malaysia and “turning up the volume” with exaggerated yet balanced flavors in Chef Tom’s signature style. Oma’s serves dinner accompanied by a seasonal list of hand-crafted cocktails and zero-proof drinks.

We reserved a table for 3 at 1pm to celebrate a Birthday. We were pleasantly surprised that we had seating options outside as well as inside. We chose outside and had a comfortable booth. Usually the restaurant is very crowded, so at 1pm we found worked well for us. The atmosphere was low key allowing room for great conversation. The food and service was top notch as always.

Our family first arrived in America from Italy in 1927 by way of Ellis Island. I'm inspired by the traditional approach my Nona took to cooking in our kitchen growing up.

Simple dishes, the absolute best ingredients available, and a lot of love. I hope that comes through in every dish we serve at Pomodori, because is it what my Nona would want.
