Our waitress was awesome. Had some Mahi Mahi that was a little over cooked for me and the waitress took care of me! The Miso butterfish was delicious!!!
The service was superb! Our wait staff made us feel like friends. The food delicious! The atmosphere was calming. We will definitely be back.
Outstanding experience. Very impressed with the staff. Roy's makes the best Butterfish. We split a farmers salad which was very ample. Go early before it gets crowded.
This was our second time visiting Roy's while on the Big Island. Overall the experience was just average...the food was good, but for the prices they charge the food should have been exceptional! The restaurant was severely understaffed, which is not the employees fault...so service was slow! Our waitress brought us all desert on the restaurant for the slow service, which she didn't have to do! Overall just an average night at Roy's.
I visited Roy's once before last night's dinner; the food was interesting, well prepared and delicious each time. The wait staff is attentive; the general manager available and overseeing table needs as well. We will return. We visited on a week night and the dining room was full. Would recommend reservations for your next visit.
The restaurant is very old with table and chairs that need to be replaced. Not worth the dining experience because of the ambiance. This restaurant needs to be updated!
This is not the Roy's I've known from years past. A hollow shell of itself. Sad The Mahi-mahi, claimed to be fresh as the day's catch, tasted like it was just unthawed. Dry, tasteless.
Having thoroughly enjoyed our visits to various Roy's restaurants in the past on several occasions, I decided to celebrate my birthday here. Granted, our expectations were fairly high, but
our experience at this location didn't come close to meeting even drastically reduced expectations. The macadamia crusted Mahimahi was simply quite flavorless, one of the filets was overcooked and chewy. My wife's short ribs were, in her words, "very bland", desperately needing seasoning. On the positive side, her potatoes were "delicious " and oir appetizers of chicken spring rolls were quite tasty. Also the service was very good but, unfortunately, insufficient to rescue a generally disappointing meal.
Fish was over cooked. Desserts not corporate
Totally never review restaurants but this one was bad. Have had many meals at Roy’s over the years but time to throw in the towel!
We were celebrating our 15th anniversary and the staff made it so special! We were on vacation so brought our two boys with us to our anniversary dinner and all four of us got well spoiled. The service was SO much better than anywhere else we’ve been on the island right now (times seem very hard right now in the restaurant industry. We try to be patient but other places we’ve waited nearly an hour to get our food. Not at Roy’s!) The food was incredible and we left absolutely stuffed & smiling. Worth waiting a week to be able yo get the reservation!!
Roy appears to be mailing it in. One expects more especially for the steep cost.
We were pleasantly surprised by the amazing food.
Our server suggested the amberjack and it was one
Of the best meals I have experienced in a long time. Since
Covid the food experience has been less than wonderful.
The chocolate soufflé was so good. The ambience at this
Location. Is not great but the meal definitely made up for that
Over cooked Ahi
The food was excellent - Spring Rolls, Kampachi topped with crab, Blackened Ahi Tuna and Meatloaf. If you arrive before dark you have a nice water view of the lake behind the restaurant otherwise the dining room has no atmosphere, it is plain Jane.
They could use a floral decoration on the table to make it feel more Hawaiian.
We go for the imaginative food but would prefer a more pleasant island atmosphere.
We were disappointed in the quality of the appetizers. Better ones were on the menu seen on the internet. We have been to several Toy’s restaurants. This was the most limited in terms of outstanding appetizers as well as somewhat limited entree choices. Perhaps due to COVID cutbacks? I do very much appreciate that Roy’s has kept occupancy to 50%. Sone restaurants have not gone this. Much appreciated.
The experience was not bad at all, just somewhat disappointing. as our previous meals at various Roy’s were all fabulous. Our server was professional, helpful and courteous. She made the evening very pleasant. I have forgotten her name, unfortunately. We were there for a retirement celebration.
Very nice meal
On vacation and looking for a quality meal. We had been eating at the Fairmont all week and wanted a change of scene and menu. Went to Roys hoping for beautiful ambiance and great food. We were disappointed with the setting especially given its proximity to the water. You would never know it was near water because the interior was very closed in. The decor was so plain and there was very little natural light. The food was average. The service did not start out all that great but improved the longer we stayed.
Service was awesome by every staff member that came by our table and the food was delicious!
Always come here for our night out. Enjoyed very much.
We had a wonderful and very tasty dinner with appetizers and the surf and turf dinner. The service was excellent in these times with social distancing and Covid. We look forward to another wonderful meal there.
Food was outstanding as usual, although the molten lava cake was disappointing in comparison to previous times. The service started off good but quickly declined and we found we were waiting long periods of time for plates to be cleared and the bill to be brought over. There was no food quality check for our main course or our dessert. Improvements in service would have made this 5 stars over all.
Ahi and Butterfush dishes were wonderful!
Great food (especially the fish dishes) but very rich; couldn't finish my meal after appetizers. Avoid as the last night in Hawaii so you can get a leftover box for the next day.
Very good experience
Our server Brandon was the most charming and engaging server we had on our trip. He was knowledgeable about the menu items and made fantastic recommendations. The soy glazed butterfish entree was “the best fish dish I’ve ever tasted” according to my father. To note, the boar rangoons and chocolate soufflé were magic. Thanks Brandon!
Slightly different menu than previous. Butterfield very good as was combo beef rib/shrimp. Tables for separated for Covid. Well serviced. Certainly will return.
Roy’s never disappoints. The service was excellent! The food was excellent! And the Mai Tais were the best ever! We’ll come back again and again.
We had a lovely evening at Roy’s. I think like everywhere else, they are struggling with getting help. Our server seemed extremely rushed. We had asked for a list of wine by the bottle. We never got one so finally just ordered a glass, after the meal came. Everything was very nice, it just wasn’t top notch like it has been in the past. The food was spectacular as always.
We were really looking forward to this dinner and went into it with expectations on the lower side, because of other reviews. There was maybe two servers for the whole restaurant, so very slow but also very friendly. Food was good, not great. Dessert was comped due to slow service (it took 20 mins), but tasty. We will not be going back until we know the experience has improved.
Roy’s used to be amazing but this place has steadily declined. I will say our server was very lovely and support staff helpful. The condition of restaurant is awful, chairs all torn and worn out, run down. The food was maybe a 3/10. I had to send my fish back twice cause it was drowning in syrupy sauce. This place used to be iconic and it has such an opportunity and captive market in Waikoloa but it needs a serious facelift and a lot more attention to detail on good food.
Restaurant badly needs updating - cushions on chairs crumbling, walls dirty - very poor upkeep. Limited menu, some items not available. Would never return
We are frequent diners at Roy’s in Scottsdale. It is a wonderful restaurant. This Roy’s was an absolute disappointment.
From the time we sat down, we had to request silverware which was delivered without napkins. We then requested napkins.
The furniture was dated and worn. It took a long time to get any service. When the food finally arrived, it was lukewarm.
We would be hard pressed to visit or recommend this Roy’s.
Waited over 20 minutes for cocktails to be served. Dinner salad was served before cocktails. Disappointed in crab cakes.
Wonderful food and service. Excellent wine selection.
Arnie our waiter was friendly, attentive and informative.
Food has definitely gone down in quality. Understaffed and not adapting to it. Interior worn out and tired looking.
We have been to many Roy’s over the years and this was just the worst. The setting was indoors with the AC at full blast, and felt like a diner. The food was mostly over cooked. The staff was pleasant.
What a disappointment. We were there many times in the past . Not sure if because of covid. The ambiance was horrible. No table cloths the lights were high. It was freezing inside. The wait staff was no where to be found. There was some promise as the appetizers were pretty good. The fish was tender but overly saturated with seasoning. The rib-eye tough. Had to seek out anyone to pay the bill $400 such a disappointment
Kitchen was very slow. Wait staff was excellent. we arrived at 6:15 pm with a reservation. Wine, appetizer and meal were ordered by 6:30 pm. Received wine and appetizers by 6:40 pm.
Did not receive main course until 7:40 pm.. several tables in our area appeared to express concern about the time it was taking for their meals also.
Great dinner for our first night in Hawaii. The ribs are amazing, tender and flavorful with a hint of spice. The butterfish was outstanding as was the bok choy and forbidden rice. The molten chocolate desert completed a perfect meal.
