Wonderful cocktails and dinner.
Great experience, delicious food, impeccable service. Noise level a bit high for reasons we couldn’t figure out, and the portions are small but it is fine island dining and we enjoyed it very much.
Roy’s was disappointing. The atmosphere - on a busy corner. Food was OK - but not what it used to be! The food seemed like yesterday’s leftovers instead of the clean and fresh food we’ve had at Roy’s in San Francisco, Maui, and Pebble Beach. Huge disappointment.
Always great food and service
Delicious dinner, highly recommend ! Good selection and prompt service. The drinks were nothing special but food was great. I had the spring rolls, macadamia nut crusted local catch of the day which was tuna and the pineapple cake- all were very good !
I really enjoyed the food here, especially the sushi! You must try that if you go to this restaurant. Value for the food was great, honestly a great experience. Will likely return when I'm back in Waikiki.
Roy’s is one of my favorite restaurants. Anywhere.
Bearing in mind all things pandemic, it felt like the same old Roy’s. However for the first time, there was a dish that was subpar. The chicken spring rolls were something you would get from a greasy takeout spot. Definitely not worth the money. And just bad.
our particular waiter, who shall remain nameless because I don’t want to affect anyone’s ability to take care of themselves, was by far the less than stellar service I’m used to.
I’m so sad to give them a less then 5 star review, since this used to be one of our favorite restaurants whenever we visit Oahu. Even the ribs didn’t taste good. I hope they will improve.
Delicious food and very efficient staff.
Thanksgiving special was delicious! Never disappointed!
We ordered the Thanksgiving meal and it was absolutely terrible. We ate two bites and the server asked if we wanted to go box. We couldnt even eat the food in the restaurant let alone eat it at home. We've been to 4 of your locations and this is the first time we had a bad meal. We should have ordered from your regular menu.
Excellent food, drinks and service! Best meal on our week trip to Oahu!
Dinner was very tasty and service was on point. Ordered the Al Fresco Prix Fixe and loved it! Definitely recommend!!
They don’t accept Roy’s gift cards, because as they say, “we’re not affiliated with Roy’s from the mainland.” If you don’t accept Roy’s gift cards, then you aren’t Roy’s. Maybe consider a name change to Bob’s or Chuck’s or Sam’s? I don’t think we’ll go back.
Eat the butterfish. Delicious
1st night in Oahu and we had a reservation @ Roy’s Waikiki. They were awesome. We had a reservation for 8:15pm but we were so tired as we just arrived from NY earlier that day and wanted to see if they could seat us earlier. We asked and they said sure. We got there at 6:45pm. That was just a great impression on us. We had very good food. Service was great food was cooked perfectly and temperature which is super important was spot on!! It was a great 1st day/night at Waikiki! Roy’s was the best! Thank you!
Ordered the short ribs. Ok but carrots were not cooked. They were hard. The other person with us had the same complaint with her meatloaf
I purchased the fixed prix dinner. could have matched it at Panda Express. We saw the appetizer list and it is now very limited. The appetizers or pupus were limited and didn't have the creative sauces of the past. We were served a fried spring roll and a very salty spare rib as a appetizer. Main course was meh as was the dessert. With 1 drink each, the tab was $200, not worth it. I would have paid $300 for better tasting good. Roy's once creative servings has been surpassed by newer and more creative restaurants.
We arrived and wanted to order about 6 to 7 appetizers, but the selections didn't impress. Morimoto's blew this place away, sorry to say so.
For the price and rating of the place, it was bit of a let down. We went there to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Food was hit and miss, service was not so good (may be we just got a grumpy server), cocktails were bad for the price and expectation. Ambience and environment was good
Once again Diva & her team blew it out of the park! Spectacular food from start to finish accompanied by unparalleled service!
Absolutely love this location…best service and the food, well it’s perfection!
The CBK roll was phenomenal. The butterfish was spectacular. Loved every thing about this restaurant and food!
The food here is decent but nothing that will make you go wow. The server was very friendly and attentive and we have no complaints about the service at all. The outdoor seating is a view of the Denny’s across the street or hotel across the other street. There is no ocean view at all. The indoor seating is just kind of blah. Clean and neat but no character. Overall this place has no atmosphere or character to it at all. Everything about this place is done well but nothing stands out, is special or memorable. A few days after I get home I won’t remember eating there. For the price I would try something else.
Menu needs to be a little more clear on what is being served.
Excellent food, service was impeccable, will return again.
Food quality and presentation were poor.
Noisy people at next tables.
Great good and service.
My go to place in Waikiki. I have Celiac disease and they always have delicious options I can have.
Once again, happy! Great food—short ribs were awesome for us both, even with mine gluten and dairy free. Greag drinks. Great service. We visited the Ko Olina location before this one and it’s been the best food we’ve had on Oahu (and that includes Mina’s Fish House)!
Amazing food. Waitress made herself scarce though. The rest of the staff was amazing.
Amazing ambiance, food (the macadamian nut encrusted catch of the day is a MUST), drinks (highly recommend the pineapple martini - they pre-soak the pineapples in vodka, so if you’re lucky, you’ll get a shot’s worth of vodka on top of the regular amount), and service! Our server was very friendly, knowledgeable and very attentive/thoughtful. Would highly recommend this place to anyone!
Service was a little slow as Roy’s struggles to staff for business levels like all other restaurants. But…Our old Fashioned was excellent and wine hit the right price/quality trade off. The sashimi trio was fresh with a beautiful presentation. The butterfish entree was perfectly cooked with excellent presentation. The seared Ahi entree was on par with the butterfish. We finished with an excellent creme brûlée.
Great food and service. Unfortunately we sat near a very loud group! They were celebrating but it made it hard to have a conversation. Would come here again!
Unfortunately did not impress. Food tastes disappointed with overcooked(fish), over seasoned(salad), and simply lower quality than expected(sashimi).
Coffee was not hot but desserts tasted ok.
We had the canoe appetizer which was enormous for two people. My husband and I ordered the beef short ribs and 3 oz of butter fish; which was plenty.
Reliably good meal, not a fine dining experience. In my mind, the more locations a chef has under his name, the more diluted the essence becomes. I'd read Roy sold his chain of restaurants in mainland US and only kept the locations in Hawaii, so I was hopeful. Years ago I heard good things about Roy from the chef I was working for, so I might have had too high an expectation.
The location is in the busy area filled with hotels and shops, and the outside seating is right across the street from a big ABC mart. Bustling, but maybe not too romantic. Inside seating might be better if you don't mind eating inside.
I have some dietary restrictions (no gluten/dairy/egg), so some items needed to be modified somewhat. When presented with such constraints, some restaurants see it as a good challenge and still try to please by being creative. Others just omit/substitute what they need to and call it a day. Roy's was the latter. I had the kanpachi (yellowtail amberjack) crudo (the one with jalapeno slices--Nobu influence?) and miso butterfish. When the waiter suggested switching out the white soy with yuzu dressing for the appetizer, I didn't really imagine the delicate fish slices would be doused with creamy, mediocre salad dressing (I was imagining something a bit more fresh/light). The butterfish was very tasty, even with the ginger wasabi butter missing. In fact, I would think it would be too much with additional sauce. With food, I think some restraint is important in terms of flavors. The stir-fried vegetables that came with it tasted fine, but looked mushy and not very nicely presented.
The service was fine, in that I didn't have to wait for anything too long, but not like fine dining, where they don't miss a beat as you are eating/drinking. The drinks were quite strong. I realize everything in Hawaii is expensive, but for the price, I expected a little better. For a nice meal before the flight it was fine, but probably not for a special occasion.
The food is simply amazing. I will recommend this restaurant to anyone
Our anniversary was 1 week ago but they were able to honor that and still gave us a free dessert. The food was excellent! Omg the Mahi Mahi was on point! Edamame was sooo good. The waitress who attended us was very sweet and patient. My teenagers were indecisive so having her was just great!
Desserts were delicious!
Definitely coming back
