Everything was good salad not enough dressing and flavor on short rib could have had more flavor throughout but that’s just personal taste
It’s a shame that this location is going out of business. We’ve always frequented Roy’s for special occasions so it will be missed. Hopefully a new Tampa location will open up in the future so we can continue to experience what makes this restaurant truly special.
Excellent food served in a delightful atmosphere by a very professional wait staff.
This is usually our go-to fine dining location but on this occasion missed the mark. The scalloped potatoes were burnt, and the waitress offered to redo the order, but added that that is how they are normally cooked. The filet didn't have the usual exceptional flavor. (It was kind of "mealy". Spring rolls were bland, and the carrot served with the shellfish sampler had an unpleasant favor. We love Roy's and have had many terrific meals there, but this one was not one of them.
Had the Chilean sea bass. Very good!!!
The food is always exceptional and the service was excellent. However the noise level is most often too noisy to have a conversation.
We came to have the surf and turf. The food was delicious. The chocolate soufflé was superb. Our waiter Keith is very attentive to our needs.
Anniversary dinner. They congratulated us, but no flower, no candle no complimentary champagne or dessert.
Ambience & service has deteriorated over the 10 years we’ve even dining there. Still excellent food & mojitos.
great food and delicious
We were celebrating a birthday and a new job. We weren't really able to talk among the five of us due to all of the noise. We were seated near the bar and there were young children running around screaming. We started off with a very personable, efficient female server. However, with no explanation or introduction, a male server took over. This affected our entire evening, things went downhill quickly from there. We will not be going back.
It was a fun experience. The food was quite good and the service was impressive. Liz, the bartender and Abby, our server were both exceptional!
One of my wife and I's favorite places. Usually for special occasions because it is a pricier restaurant, but worth it. Sushi is delicious. I almost always get the butterfish, and my wife often does the special. We've never been disappointed and the waitstaff is phenomenal.
Service is always outstanding at this location, and it keeps me coming back hoping everything else will be on par. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre, and expensive. I attempted to use an email special, but it didn’t automatically deduct discount, so I lost out on $25.00 (I was under the impression if you reserved from the email, you got the discount. Not the case). The fish was too salty, and three of us ordered this dish (so I know it wasn’t just me). Anyway, the salad was amazing (mowie wowie) and kept part of the meal satisfying.
We love Roy's, but this particular time we were s eated next to two men who were talking loudly. One of the men dropped the F bomb in almost every sentence he spoke. He was like a little boy who just found out it was a bad word so he had to use it repeatedly. Many servers walked by so someone had to have heard him. Very disappointed no one reported it to the manager so he/she could have spoken to this guy. No one wants to spend over $100 for dinner and listen to some sophomoric guy cuss the entire time.
After dinner I approached the man and asked for his business card, which he said he did not have and asked if he was too loud. I replied loudness was not the issue, but his vulgarity was. He quickly apologized and our conversation was not at all contentious. He asked if he could make retribution in some way, but I said that was not necessary. Instead, I asked him to just consider those within hearing distance of his conversations next time he was in a nice restaurant.
Food was delicious and service was wonderful!
Awesome service and food.
Rey good experience - pace of the meal was perfect (faster than usual - which in the past has been too slow). Looked like new manager - server was excellent even though she was busy / stretched to the limit.
The butterfish was outstanding as was the whole meal except the new year's eve dessert selection.
Your Monday night special is fantastic - I couldn’t believe the place wasn’t packed!
Very nice dining experience, this is a regular stop.
Roy's is my favorite restaurant and we go there whenever possible. At this visit the salmon was not cooked and the waitress offered to return it but we were already being served the dessert. The appetizer and salad were excellent as well as the dessert but the entree was less than expected.
Service was Great, Keith was our server.
Food was good except one of the shrimp i got from sis tasted spoilt, I spat it out, she said rest was ok. All the other dishes were delish ,lobster sushi, mash potatoes, crab fried rice, short ribs, spare ribs. soufle/ pineapple upside cake.
Food was great but menu was very small and limited. Overall was a great experience.
Wow good food good service
Christmas Day dinner. Waited all day to enjoy dinner at 7:30 but arrived and Reservations were 45 mins behind in seating. Finally got seated, 2 of the 3 options from the limited menu were out so we ordered off what was still available. My tuna was great but my wife ordered the filet med rare. When it came out hers was seared rare. We Sent it back to be cooked more but when it came back the outside was charred and the inside still blood red. Her sides were all over cooked as if they put her plate under the heat lamps while re-cooking her steak.
Our waitress was wonderful and took my wife’s dinner off the bill since she didn’t eat any of it.
We have eaten at Roys over the years many many times and never had any issues. This one visit it appeared too many reservations were booked and not enough staff was available. Everyone was running around busing tables, running food, etc (including the executive staff).
For the last three years, my family and I have diner at Roy’s on Christmas. Previously, it has been an all around pleasant experience. However, this Christmas missed the mark. The food was good but the service was really off.We had a 7:15 reservation we got seated around 7:45. Our orders were taken around 8:15. Our food came out around 9. My daughter never got her drink. We were told they were out of the lobster bisque My cousin and I ordered, but then the table next to us who was seated after us, received two bowls. My daughter’s food came out incorrectly. My warm bread pudding for dessert was cold. This my third Christmas having dinner there and we have never had an experience like this....
Came in from Dallas for the week as we do every year and always love to try new restaurants. I searched hard to pick the right spot for Christmas day dinner and landed on Roy's after reading through reviews. Reservation was 30 minutes behind which was really no big deal. The steaks were fantastic and our server was delightful and attentive.
The bartenders did not greet us and were clearly unhappy and overwhelmed. They were rude and disrespectful to us and to other guests nearby. This was our first impression of how the rest of the meal will go and I must admit that as we had our 30 minute wait for a reservation, I started calling restaurants nearby to see if anyone had anything available. My wife insisted we stay and we did. For me personally, service is almost as important if not more as the ambience and the quality of the meal.
We will be back again in the area next year. I would potentially consider visiting once more.
The entrees (ahi, butterfish) were excellent, apps and dessert ok but not outstanding. Service was extremely slow (understaffed in kitchen and waitstaff) and inefficient, and menu was limited. Recommend avoiding Roy's Tampa on Xmas; go other times when they can better manage the customer load.
It’s Christmas Day dinner and the menu is fixed price which is fine if the food was a larger portion and the service was better. They over booked and were under staffed. My butterfish was great but everything else was mediocre! Won’t return!
5:30 reservation not seated until 6:10! Overbooked under staffed. Very disappointed with this restaurant. Saw 6-12 people leave while we waited.
We had a dinner at Roy's on Christmas Day so expected some glitches. There were more glitches than we could count! We had a reservation and still waited 40 minutes for our table for two. After ordering our drinks we asked for bread and never received it, even with several reminders to the server. It was on our bill as a $0 item so it was not forgotten, just not delivered to our table. Our soups were delivered with no spoons which was pointed out immediately to the person who delivered the soups. He never came back with the spoons so my husband went to the kitchen and asked for them himself! The entrees were delivered and were excellent. I then asked for an Irish Coffee - I think they went to Ireland for it. At one point I was the server carry a cup of coffee from the kitchn to the bar, the carry the Irish Coffee to the kitchen for the whipped cream. 25 minutes later I received my drink. Ten minutes later we received our desserts. We were less than impressed with the way the evening was handled but did understand that perhaps they were not prepared for a Christmas day dinner (even tho they had a limited menu).
This was not the usual great Roy’s experience. They got greedy and took too many reservations. In addition they were understaffed. We were seated 25 minutes after our reservations time. As everyone else was in the same predicament there was limited seating while waiting. We ordered bread twice, but by the time he was going to bring it we were through with our main course. I received my red wine when I had two bites of my filet. The potatoes au gratin were odd. The dessert was dried out.
I live in Chicago and frequently go to Roy's. I thought since I'd be in Tampa for the holiday I would go to a familiar place. I made reservations and was very disappointed. I had to wait 20 minutes to be seated, was seated in a banquet room away from everyone, forgotten by staff and waited a long time in between courses. I was embarrassed after raving to my family about the restaurant.
Went for Christmas dinner with my wife. We had 4:30 appt. We waited for a bit but not too bad(about 20 minutes). We were seated and ordered 1 dinner from the Christmas special and a filet mignon from the available entrees. The filet was so salty, you could not eat it. So we decided that we didnt want to wait another 15 to 20 minutes to get another one. We got the bill and they charged us for the meal that was returned. We asked to speak with the manager about it. We waited almost 20 minutes before he decided to come by. Bottom line is they charged us for the appetizer and desert that came with the meal. Very poor
Food was wonderful; service was rather inattentive and lacking the professionalism we’ve come to expect.
Filet mignon was raw and chewy! I had two bites, the waitress took it away did not ask me if everything was OK or would I Like to take it with me.
Visited Christmas Day; party of four, first time here in several years: Special menu. I ordered the short rib entree. I have ordered short ribs numerous times at numerous restaurants. This version was the worst I have ever experienced. .Even with a steak knife I could hardly cut through it. It was served as a large lump of meat, not the normal short ribs found elsewhere. I mentioned my disappointment to a wait staff person who said he would inform the chef and send the manager to the table. The manager never showed up.
I love Roy's and eat there often. Wonderful service and an outstanding chef. I love the casual luxury you feel.
It was our first visit to Roy's. It was not busy or crowded. Without going into the details, we'll just say that we payed top dollar for a meal that missed the mark by almost any measure. We won't be returning anytime soon.
Took too long to get food to our table and when the food was ready it was cold just imagine eating a cold NY steak !
