The owners of Étoile Cuisine et Bar, Chef Philippe Verpiand and Monica Bui, have created an inviting, warm European environment where both traditional and seasonal French food are front and center. "We want to dispel the notion that French food is heavy and pretentious," says the team, recently transplanted to Houston from San Diego, where they owned the famed Cavaillon Restaurant. Everything about Étoile Cuisine et Bar, from the inviting outside facade to the intriguing interior design to the high quality service, is meant to convey a feeling of truly being in France. With Chef Philippe's take on a seasonal menu using a French technique, it's a place where fine food lovers come together, not on a special occasion, but to enjoy every day.

Our first visit. Etoile has been on my list to visit for a while. intimate location with sophisticated décor. While it was busy, it was not overly crowded on a Monday. I could see how if it were full that some of the two top tables are too close together for an intimate dinner conversation. Fortunately we had unseated tables between us and other patrons. Staff was attentive and gracious and food was very good, even if the menu was somewhat limited. We had the filet, duck breast, risotto special as well as the salmon tartare and goat cheese salad with prosciutto to start. Apple tart and Profiteroles for dessert. Preparations were on point and the duck over the squash puree with mushroom was among the best duck I've had. Definitely a place you should try for an upscale experience without the IG see and be seen crowd ruining it taking selfies.

It’s a charming French restaurant that I love coming back with my family and friends since it’s opening. The service was as wonderful as our meal. The cocktails are just perfect. You know when the Chef takes pride in his restaurant that he comes out and checks on all his guests.

It was great, as usual! My husband loves this restaurant, so it was a safe bet for Father's Day. The special menu was excellent!
