We had Valentine’s pre fixe dinner reservations and ultimately couldn’t dine at all. There were 5 parties waiting to check in when we arrived, and two couples leaving told us to leave due to egregious wait times.

Absolutely the worst experience I’ve had a restaurant. Let me start this off by saying this is the only review I have ever felt the need to post before of anywhere I have been. I came here for their Valentine’s Day dinner. I was one of the first reservations at 5 and we were finally able to leave at 7:45 and we made it a lot faster than the other couples who were there at the same time. The risotto that we ordered was watery like soup and our red velvet cake was dry dense and crunchy. our waiter never came to help us and we watched him turn away from our table when we tried to ask for help. I’ve never experienced such a disaster happen in a restaurant before. People were waiting 30min-1hour or more between their courses. We were lucky and got served quicker than most but the couple sitting behind us were still waiting on their main entree by the time we were finally able to leave after waiting 20+ minutes for the check and finally having to wave down another server to help us get our check. I saw several people finally get up and just leave because the wait to get their food was taking forever. There was a line of probably 40+ people waiting for their reservations and I have a feeling most probably weren’t able to be seated because of the atrocious wait times for the food to come out. The worst part was when we finally got the check for $400. I have never been to such a disappointing dining event in my life. If I had known it would’ve been like this I wouldn’t have come if it was free. An absolute disaster of a restaurant and I will never be back and will make sure none of my friends and family eat here. I could write a book on everything that went wrong this night. Do yourself a favor and never come here.

Was recommended this place by a colleague and unfortunately I might’ve came on a bad night perhaps. The charcuterie board was inedible, some of the meat was ground up and had the texture of wet cat food… crab cakes are expensive at $24.00 and you get two mini crab cakes in the middle of a huge plate. And as for the pasta with lamb, for homemade pasta it didn’t have the qualities of homemade pasta and the sauce was a bit runny but have flavor thankfully. Lamb was cooked good. Overall 2/5 stars and wouldn’t go back.. menu is a bit weird and is meant for a certain demographic

Service was excellent, food was delicious. I didn’t like the extra 10% charged on top of the bill and not disclosed until the end. I would have gladly paid 10% more if it were built into the cost of the meal but I feel it was a slap in the face and ruined the experience. We won’t be back!

We arrived for our 5:30pm Thanksgiving reservation. I called a couple days before because for $65pp and Thanksgiving was to be a buffet style and wanted too make sure they would be replenishing the food for the latest reservations. They said yes. That was NOT the case. The appetizers were gone completely. the salads were soggy. And half the sides as well as the hamm and turkey were out and we had to get help because they didn't have anyone keeping an eye to make sure good was replaced after running out. When we did find help it took over 10 min to get food out. Our server was very friendly. But when we got the bill we were shocked to see that they add a 10% fee on top of every bill!!! It's supposedly goes to the restaurant in lieu of raising their prices. But paying the fee IS PAYING THE HIGHER PRICE! So dinner was advertised for $65 per person but really charged $75 plus tip. Not worth the money or hidden fees

This was our first visit to Clarklewis (even though, we've booked their private dining room for client events with great reviews in the past!) What a lovely, easy way to enjoy Thanksgiving. The food preparation was delicious, with the perfect variety of choices. Excellent value for the per person cost. The environment was inviting & relaxing - often on big holidays like Thanksgiving, the restaurant it anxious to turn the tables swiftly, which often results in feeling rushed. Not so during our visit - we relaxed & enjoyed our time together & the service was impecaable. We'll be back for non-holiday visits, and already look forward to returning next years for the holidays. Thank you Clarklewis Chef + Staff!

We keep coming back to clarklewis and are never disappointed. The homemade gnocchi with lobster was lovely and the venison was almost as good as reindeer. (If you've had reindeer, you'll know what I'm talking about.) Cocktails and dessert were top notch. While it was a treat to have the throwback Zefiro caesar salad, it's no longer the best in PDX. Either that or our tastes have evolved. But judging from the number of caesars being prepped, we might be a minority voice. All in all, a great dining experience in a Portland classic.

We were really excited for this experience and had planned a birthday/family reunion dinner that was supposed to be special. We were met by indifferent and “too cool to be nice” or attentive servers. Then we had m delays in order taking and huge delays in dinner service (which arrived cold). They told us one dish we’d ordered was then “out” and that delayed everything else. Sever ignored us and when we finally (politely) inquired, he unapologetically told us the kitchen was short staffed. He hadn’t deigned to check in or explain. We had to ask for bread to tide us over. Then when food finally came it was cold and it was clear they’d halved a portion for our two 20 year old sons. There wasn’t even enough food. But they charged us full price. And the salad was wretched. Adding insult to injury, the server couldn’t be troubled to check on us and we had to ask for check. And the place wasn’t even busy. Just a terrible experience. Very disappointing. The worst thing is they didn’t even care. We’re not the types to complain (we were restaurant workers ourselves at different points in our lives) and always want to give servers/kitchen the benefit of the doubt, but these “too cool for school” types just didn’t care. Don’t go to this place. And all of that for $350. We’ll never go back.

Small portions for the price charged. 10% automatically added onto each bill (plus then a tip?) - seems confusing. Why not just increase all prices by 10%?

This restaurant has evolved lately, just not sure in which direction. The wine list is not as good as it was and now has fewer choices. We still eat here since they are vegetarian-friendly. Noisy and quasi-industrial which will get worse this Fall/Winter 2023. One of the only high-quality choices for Sunday evenings.

Never got to try the food. Our waiter took our beverage order of tea and coffee and after 45 minutes still hasn't returned. Unknowingly we reserved a table during a drag queen brunch event, which could have been entertaining, but it was unbearable loud. Like hurt our ears loud, and forget being able to talk to the people I came with. Maybe it's better on a regular Sunday, but I'll never know, because the lack of noise still wouldn't compensate for the lack of service.

DO NOT GO HERE FOR ANY HOLIDAY MEAL the owners provide a buffet that at best is mediocre and THE PRICE IS EXORBITANT I have eaten here many times and while the food is generally good (not great) the buffet was pathetic Worse was the fact that they didn't notify me when making the resrevation for Christmas EVE that there was only a buffet Many better meals for a better price in Portland I won't patronize them again

My husband and I reserved a table there for our wedding anniversary. Our service was absolutely terrible. It took 30 minutes for us to even get our first drink order and an additional 30 minutes for our appetizer to arrive. Our server never checked in on us and we had to flag someone down to get water. The food was okay, but not worth the price and for how bad the service was. Definitely would not recommend.

There appeared to be a kitchen problem, perhaps compounded by a very small staff at front of house. It took a long time to order drinks and longer for them to appear, both were simple a beer and a glass of wine. Appetizer even longer, and salad and mains also. Out of our table of three, two of the mains came and were almost finished before the third arrived. At least one of the first mains was lukewarm when it arrived. The waitress was apologetic, and comped our dessert. But there appeared to be only two or three dedicated servers for a full restaurant, so she was hard pressed to keep up with her tables. And the kitchen didn't help. All told, dinner took almost two hours.

We have eaten here before and enjoyed it. The food was very good as usual. The service was good. The ambiance was only fair as we were seated at a table that had no overhead lighting and we couldn't really see the food we were eating. We had to use our phone flashlight to check out the dish. The other tables seemed better so we should have requested a table change...that's on us. The biggest issue that I had with the restaurant was with the bill...there was a 16% "Service Charge" that was on top of a request for an 18%+ gratuity. I inquired if the Service Charge was in fact a gratuity but was given a vague response that 5% was for the front of the house and 10% was for the something else....it sounded like it wasn't really a gratuity but maybe kind of. I added another 10% but will not return or recommend this establishment to others. I certainly understand that some places are adding +/- 5% for staff benefits but this was unreasonable in my opinion.

Enjoyed my maize margarita and after dinner bartender Bourbon creation very much. The halibut was tender and tasty although lukewarm. Wasn’t all that impressed with the super petite oysters. Wait staff was attentive, but not intrusive and elevated the experience. Payment of the tab with addition of tip and service fee made for a confusing into the evening. Would prefer it to be all inclusive.

Usually a more mellow date night spot, Clark Lewis transformed into an energetic experience for Drag Brunch with some lovely performers, MCs and DJ. I’m usually not a coffee drinker after dinner, but the espresso machine was working hard for the morning crew at this brunch and the coffee was exceptional. I would go again for such an experience, but hopefully they play with the layout to expand the offering.

ClarkLewis never fails to impress. I've been here for dinner several times and have never been disappointed with the meals, the cocktails, the service; all of it. Some friends and I went to their inaugural drag brunch and had a wonderful time. We've been to other drag brunches but none were this fun, and the food was outstanding as always.

16% service charge added to your bill whether you like it or not, and has nothing to do with the tip. This is a charge kept by management for? Sounds like funding the minimum wage they pay their employees. So why not just add that into the price of your food? Feels like a gouge.

Everything was great UNTIL they included 16% service charge that DID NOT include any gratuity. To cover their labor costs and for some staff so adding another 20% for tip for my server added 36% to my total bill. I won’t be back and I have never seen that anywhere! Extortion.
